Fredrick Pokai is an Auckland based writer, actor, pod caster and director. Fredrick' creative journey began in 2006 where he studied contemporary Maori art in Gisborne, New Zealand. As an actor he is most well known for 'The Haka' and 'Birrhs, deaths and marriages. He has worked constantly in feature films, short films and commercials.
Fredrick Pokai has been writing since 2011 where he wrote a series of short film, RV series and features. He brought his first script to life in 2014 called the 'The Red President'. His next script wouldn't be brought to life until 2019 when he wrote, produced and starred in the film 'Beneath the mountains'. He would go on to act after that until 2022 when he brought his 10 year project to life Search for Hawaiki which he directed. Not long after he would write and star in the film 'Bringing Mere Home' which he also won the best actor award at the 2023 vision feast film festival.
Fredrick Pokai also has a podcast called 'The FTG Podcast'.
