- He is of Scandinavian, British and German ancestry. Justin has ancient English heritage. Like Queen Elizabeth II, he is a direct descendant of William the Conquerer. Great grandson (13x great) of Sir Thomas Smythe, treasurer of the Virginia Company and governor of the East India Company.

- In 1997, Justin auditioned and was later called back for the role of the young James Whale in Gods and Monsters (1998), starring Brendan Frasier, Ian McKellan and Lynn Redgrave. Director Bill Condon was present at the callback.
- He is good friends with Christian Cousins. Coincidentally, they were both represented by the same talent agent (Bob Preston) at CESD.
- In 2023, Justin landed a recurring role on Oxygen's true crime series Sin City Murders (2024).
- Is shooting an episode of Murder in the Heartland (2017) on the Investigation Discovery network (as of March 2024). He plays the role of Detective Tim Brown.
