If the future is female, then streaming services are wildly behind the times — the big winners on these platforms are overwhelmingly men. In 2018, for example, just three of the Top 25 most-streamed songs were helmed by women, according to data from BuzzAngle, which tracks music consumption. The same held true for albums.
That means streaming services don’t have much to offer female rappers right now. Two weeks ago, just two of the 50 songs on Spotify’s popular RapCaviar playlist incorporated women: Both involved Cardi B. Apple Music’s comparable playlist,...

Cardi B is the artist with the most nominations (10), while “Apeshit” by Beyonce and Jay-z is the most nominated video (8), but they’re not the biggest winners we’re predicting. Instead, we think Childish Gambino will run the board, winning all seven of his nominations for his widely discussed video “This is America.” That would tie it with Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance” (2010) as the second most awarded video of all time,...

On her first album in three and a half years, Nicki Minaj comes out swinging. “Unlike a lot of these hoes, whether wack or lit/At least I can say I wrote every rap I spit,” she charges on “Ganja Burns.” Queen is littered with subliminal disses, and though she doesn’t name names, it’s not a leap to imagine Cardi B, Remy Ma, Lil Kim and sundry frenemies as her targets. Only ‘90s heroine Foxy Brown is allowed to stand beside her on the chiming bells and ragga rhythm of “Coco Chanel.

MTV has announced the nominees for the 35th Annual MTV Video Music Awards, which include a few new categories and are missing a couple of others. Just like the MTV Movie and TV Awards, which consolidated the races for Best Male Performance and Best Female Performance into Best Performance in a Show and Best Performance in a Movie, the 2018 VMAs have done away with gendered categories.

Olivier Francois, chief marketing officer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has engineered some of the most memorable music moments from car commercials over the past decade.

The 2016 Bet Awards are officially underway at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, honoring the best in music, television, movies and sports from the past year. Hosted for the second year in a row by “Black-ish” co-stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the show is giving some of our favorite films, from “Creed” to “Beasts of No Nation,” “Dope” and more, a chance to add some final hardware to their awards cabinets.
In addition to those three movies, the Best Movie category is rounded out by “Concussion” and “Straight Outta Compton.” The acting races pit Kerry Washington against Viola Davis, Michael B. Jordan against Idris Elba, and more. Samuel L. Jackson and “Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams will both receive special honors, the former with the Lifetime Achievement Award and the latter with the Humanitarian Award. There’s also planned tributes to the late Muhammad Ali and Prince.

There aren’t a great many artists big enough to help the top grossing nightclub in the world celebrate its seventh anniversary. Hip-hop and bass music icon Diplo fits the bill, though, and he’s uploaded his two-and-a-half-hour set from the March 21st celebration to his SoundCloud account for everyone who wasn’t able to attend.
Before going in, though, it’s worth noting that this was one of Diplo’s more mainstream-friendly performances. Las Vegas nightclubs go for a very specific sound – so where his recent Diplo and Friends set showcased his expert ear for hip-hop, his Xs performance predominantly consisted of big room house and ringtone rap edits.
That said, Diplo‘s DJ set at Xs Las Vegas’ 7th anniversary celebration certainly still had its gems. He was nice enough to scrawl out a tracklist as well, so if you hear something you like then find it by...

The brainchild of Sonny Moore, Skrillex is an electronic enigma. He’s broken down just about every musical barrier previously thought to exist, and collaborated with more artists than would fit on a movie credit. In fact, he’s still buzzing after recently winning the Ama’s Collaboration of The Year for his work with Diplo and Justin Bieber for “Where Are Ü Now.”
It seems as though Skrillex has been around forever, leading us all around by the collar to find the next biggest trend in dance music, fashion, or aesthetics. So it’s wild to think Sonny has only been in the spotlight as Skrillex for five years. But about four years ago, he did an interview with The Guardian which left quite an impression.
Titled “The Most Hated Man In Dubstep,” the interview exacerbated Skrillex’s status as a punching bag for his musical experimentation. Now, he...

A slew of notables (including Future, DeJ Loaf, and Vince Staples, among others) performed at tonight's Bet Hip-Hop Awards; however, one of the truest highlights seemed to come when Puff Daddy & the Family used the opportunity to premiere "Workin." The new single, which samples Les Sins's "Bother," serves as a follow-up to the summer's "Finna Get Loose" and will be included on Puff's forthcoming No Way Out 2 album. Leading up to the song's unveiling, Bad Boy members Lil' Kim, King Los, and Styles P helped set the stage with the music mogul, and then lots of clapping later, this happened — never before has dropping a hat looked so cool:If you're into it, the track's already available for download.
