Will Smith performed with J Balvin at the Coachella Stage at the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.
It was Smith’s first public performance since his infamous slap at Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars. The actor was banned from the ceremony and went into hiding.
Smith sported a suit and tie with shades, giving Men in Black vibes as he did in the 2012 film, and Balvin was in a sparkly silver sweatshirt.
Last year, the rapper and actor appeared at estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s book tour in Baltimore for her new memoir, Worthy.
Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Smith had been separated for seven years. Will said their decades-long relationship was “very long and tumultuous.”
The couple has remained legally together and aims to support each other in good times and bad. They share two children, Jaden and Willow.

J Balvin made his return to Coachella on Sunday night, and he brought along Will Smith for a performance of “Men in Black” towards the end of his sub-headlining set.
Complete with backup dancers donned as ETs, a massive alien head popping up in the center, and a reprise of the 1997 film’s costumes, J Balvin pulled out all the stops for his Men in Black production. Will Smith emerged to perform the blockbuster’s titular theme song — halfway through, the track’s beat switched to a reggaeton groove, and Smith and J Balvin recreated the dance from the song’s music video.
The performance concluded with J Balvin being “captured” by suited backup dancers and Smith flashing the audience with a memory-eraser ray. Watch footage of Smith’s appearance below.

The music festival Coachella hit this weekend with a wide array of genre artists. Notably, for the older millennial music fans, 90s bands such as Blur and No Doubt would take the stage. The festival would also feature a bevy of guest appearances that include such acts as Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Shakira, Paris Hilton and Kesha. Kesha would set social media and news outlets ablaze as she changed the lyrics to her hit song “Tik Tok” to say “fuck P. Diddy” during her performance with Reneé Rapp.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that during J Balvin’s set, Will Smith arrived on stage in his black suit and shades, which was “the last suit you’d ever wear” in Smith’s 1997 blockbuster film, Men in Black. Smith and Balvin would then duet in rapping to the title track of the sci-fi comedy that also starred Tommy Lee Jones. Their performance...

Coachella 2024 was the year of the A-list guests. Across all three days, top stars made appearances either onstage or in the crowd to support their musician besties. Olivia Rodrigo joined No Doubt, Will Smith pulled up for J Balvin, Justin Bieber sang with Tems, Billie Eilish threw a last-minute party at the DoLab stage, and Shakira even announced a world tour during Bizarrap’s set.
The talk among some festivalgoers ahead of Coachella suggested that this year’s lineup might underwhelm, but the number of stars joining their friends onstage surely helped with that.

The Latin Grammy-winning Colombian artist J Balvin parked a ginormous inflatable spaceship on Coachella’s main stage Sunday night, kicking off an epic reggaeton rave under the stars.
Balvin opened the festivities with his 2017 moombahton smash, “Mi Gente,” the same song he performed with Beyoncé during her historic Homecoming show — and his Coachella debut. Six years later, Balvin’s catalog has been expanded and blended creatively with different genres, as has reggaeton’s sound. Will Smith was a surprise guest at Coachella on Sunday night.
The rapper-actor hit the stage alongside J Balvin to perform his hit song “Men in Black,” from his 1997 box office blockbuster film of the same name.
Smith appeared in Ray-Ban Balorama sunglasses and a black Dolce & Gabbana suit, the standard uniform of his character in the film, which starred Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as investigators in a secret organization who monitor and police extraterrestrials.
Smith and Balvin rapped the song together, while backup dancers dressed as aliens and a giant alien head prop added to the effect. At the end of the performance, Balvin was dragged off by two people in black suits.
Then, Smith was seen holding up the device used in the movie to erase the memories of people who witness alien activities, in addition to wiping out the memories of agents ready to retire.

Nelly Furtado took to Instagram on Saturday to show off her battle scars following a particularly dramatic performance onstage at Coachella.
Fans at the music festival on Saturday saw Furtado trip and fall after joining Dom Dolla to perform their single, “Eat Your Man.” Furtado shared footage of the spill on her own Instagram story later that day.
Also on social media, Furtado shared a photo of her bloodied finger after the performance. “Literally left it all on the stage,” she wrote, “including my blood.”
In footage of the incident, Furtado is seen singing the lyric “movin’ my body like a nympho” just before falling to the floor. She recovers quickly, telling the crowd, “I say it right, now do what I say.”
In the video of herself stumbling, she quipped: “Eat your man…not the stage.”

Grimes took to social media Sunday to apologize for the technical issues during her Coachella performance this weekend.
The singer-songwriter struggled with equipment malfunctions throughout her show Saturday, with problems plaguing the programming of her tracks at the mixing desk that left her screaming into the microphone throughout the second half of her set.
“The cdjs were showing me bpms like 370 so I couldn’t even mix manually by ear and the front monitors were off so it was literally sonic chaos on my end trying to guess how stuff was sounding for u guys,” she explained on X (formerly Twitter).
Her statement also explained she outsourced certain aspects of the performance “to save time.”

The boys are living their Godfather fantasy.
On Thursday, J Balvin released his new single “Triple S” featuring Jowell & Randy, and De La Ghetto, along with its Corleone family-esque video, which sees the four men showing up to a blood-filled mansion as mafiosos.
As they drop bars about a woman who’s “single, strong, and not to be messed with,” the four men walk through a large home in preparation for a dinner, in which guests end up falling like flies after taking sips of their drinks and bites of their food.

Admittedly, it wasn’t a fair fight, at least on those terms, with one of Spanish-language hip-hop’s most accomplished artists putting the popwise Colombian reggaetonero on the defensive. Lurking beneath this back-and-forth volley of since-deleted video rants and dueling hot dog memes lay a deep seated criticism of the industry in which both artists operate, one where a dispute over representation at the Latin Grammys could prompt legitimate, almost existential animus between them. And...

Shortly after his friend Valentina Gasparini passed away, Residente began seeing the number “313” everywhere.
He’d been in a hotel, listening to one of Gasparini’s old voicemails, when a piano started playing a haunting melody below him. He looked up at the clock: 3:13. Then he began clicking through audio notes Gasparini had left him — she’d been an accomplished violinist and they’d collaborated on a lot of music together. The last one she’d sent him had been at 3:13 p.m. He’d responded with a message that was 3:13 minutes.

Usher knows that social media has been buzzing with fantasy playlists about his halftime show performance, while others try to guess which special guests he’ll bring onstage.
He didn’t offer specific details at a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, but the singer said he would incorporate elements of his uber-successful Sin City residency, which includes him dancing and singing while skating.
“I was very mindful of my past, celebrating my present, which is here in Las Vegas, and thinking about where we are headed in the future,” he told Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis onstage. “What songs do people know me for? What songs have been a celebration of [my career]? That was the idea.”
Usher has collaborated with acts like Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Justin Bieber, Jungkook of BTS, J Balvin, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Lil Jon and Jay-Z, who is executive producing the halftime show for a fifth time.

Usher’s performance next month during halftime of Super Bowl Lviii on CBS is getting an extra promo push from Apple – with a retro flourish.
The tech giant, which took over from Pepsi last year as the lead sponsor of the halftime show, has released a one-minute trailer (watch it above) titled “30 Years in the Making.” Set to the pop star’s 2004 hit “Yeah,” the trailer shows a range of clips of fans, street musicians, a church choir along with recognizable figures like NBA star LeBron James, Colombian singer-rapper J Balvin and BTS singer Jungkook. The main track pulses recognizably, but is mixed with flute, classical piano, choral versions and grainy camcorder footage of kids singing and Usher at a recording-studio mixing board.

The NFL playoffs start this weekend, which means — more importantly — the countdown can officially begin for Usher’s Super Bowl Lviii Halftime Show.
To mark the occasion, a new trailer for the performance was released today, Jan. 12, featuring a clever, cameo-filled cover of Usher’s perennial classic with Lil Jon and Ludacris, “Yeah!” The song is constructed from an array of clips, including old Usher performance footage, a gospel choir, a marching band, fan home videos, a busking flautist, a small string section, and a group beatboxing at a diner table.
