Sydney, Aug 24 (Ians) Australia’s Test skipper Pat Cummins believes that the after-effect of the stumping of England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow effected by Alex Carey during the Lord’s Test in the 2023 Ashes series made him like the fact that a lot of people got involved with the sport.
On day five’s play in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, Bairstow was on 10 in the 52nd over when he ducked under a bouncer from Cameron Green and inadvertently walked out of his crease.
Carey immediately directed an underarm throw after catching the delivery, and jumped in joy after firing his throw at the stumps. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Gaffaney sent the decision upstairs, where TV umpire Marais Erasmus confirmed Bairstow’s dismissal.
The dismissal drew a furious reaction from the fans, who started to chant “same old Aussies, always cheating”, and booed the visitors for the rest of the day,...

Melbourne, Aug 18 (Ians) Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith and left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc have been ruled out of the white-ball tour of South Africa due to injuries to the wrist and groin, respectively.
A report in cricket.com.au said despite the duo missing the South Africa tour, they are expected to be fully fit for the Men’s Odi World Cup in India from October 5 to November 19. As a result, Mitchell Marsh will be taking over as Australia’s captain for both white-ball formats in South Africa.
Starc’s absence means uncapped left-arm quick Spencer Johnson will remain on for the Odi leg of the tour after being previously named in the T20I squad. Smith’s absence means Marnus Labuschagne is added to the Odi squad, with Ashton Turner called in as his replacement in the T20I squad.

Melbourne, Aug 15 (Ians) Australia captain Pat Cummins has given every indication he will be fit for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup by declaring his injured wrist is recovering well and he is on track to return prior to the six-week tournament in India.
Cummins fractured his wrist while batting during the final Ashes Test against England at The Oval last month and was initially diagnosed to be sidelined for up to six weeks ahead of Australia’s first game at the World Cup against hosts India on October 8.
But Cummins has allayed any fears that he will be battling to prove his fitness prior to that clash, with the fast bowler aiming to travel to South Africa next month to join up with his teammates during their five-match series against the Proteas and then return to playing during the three-game series against India at the end of September.

Melbourne, Aug 7 (Ians) Australia have announced some surprise selections in their 18-player squad for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.
Uncapped leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and inexperienced all-rounder Aaron Hardie are the surprise inclusions, with Test star Marnus Labuschagne the notable omission from Australia’s squad that will be reduced to 15 players closer to the start of the tournament on October 5, reports Icc.
Under Icc regulations squads must be finalised prior to September 28, with Australia’s first game at this year’s World Cup coming against hosts India in Chennai on October 8.
Captain Pat Cummins will be racing against the clock to be fit for that opening contest, after it was revealed the fast bowler picked up a fractured wrist during the recent Ashes series against England.

London, Aug 3 (Ians) Recently-retired England fast bowler Stuart Broad has admitted that the feeling of him not bowling or batting anymore “still hasn’t sunk in”, adding that finishing on top at the end of an Ashes series was all he wanted.
Broad announced that he would retire from the game after day three of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval. He got a fairytale finish to his career by claiming the last two wickets of the match on Day Five as England won by 49 runs to level the series 2-2 with Australia, with Broad taking 22 wickets across five games.
“I felt really relaxed that last day and just for (Chris) Woakes and Moeen [Ali] to set the tone as they did and get some early wickets was awesome. I played so much cricket with both of those guys and it was so special. Ultimately, I just feel...

London, Aug 3 (Ians) Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the England Test team, seems to have had a change of heart over his comment that he would never share a beer with the Australian players following the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow during the Ashes 2023 series.
“I can’t imagine we’ll be having a beer with them any time soon. You’ve got to live with the decisions you make,” McCullum had told the BBC after Bairstow was run out by Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey in the Lord’s Test after the former stepped out of the crease prematurely after avoiding a short-pitched delivery.
The former New Zealand captain McCullum, the architect of England’s ‘Bazball’ tactics along with skipper Ben Stokes, oversaw the team’s 2-2 draw with Australia in the 2023 series, their efforts to press home their advantage in the fourth Test thwarted by inclement weather.

Ashes 2023: Stuart Broad gets winning send-off as England beat Australia by 49 runs; draw series 2-2
London, July 31 (Ians) Veteran fast-bowler Stuart Broad got his perfect fairytale ending to a glorious cricketing career by picking the last two wickets as England beat Australia by 49 runs in the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval on Monday to level an enthralling series 2-2.
Resuming from 135 for no loss, Australia were going great guns with all ten wickets in hand, before a ball change in the 37th over took their top three batters out. Steve Smith and Travis Head led Australia’s recovery before the rain came in.
After the two-hour rain break ended, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali blew Australia away as four wickets fell for only 11 runs. Todd Murphy and Alex Carey frustrated England for a brief period as Australia went from 264 for three to 294 for 8.

London, July 24 (Ians) Australia’s veteran spinner Nathan Lyon backed the decision to leave young off-spinner Todd Murphy out of the playing eleven for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford, saying his non-inclusion worked as a decent selection as the visitors needed an additional batter in the rain-hit match.
Murphy’s exclusion from the playing eleven at Manchester took many by surprise, with the legendary Steve Waugh calling the decision as a “mistake” prior to the start of the match. But Lyon, who was ruled out of the Ashes due to a torn calf sustained at Lord’s, thought otherwise.
“It’s really hard for me to comment on that. You look at it now, obviously, they went off conditions based and with the forecast in mind with that selection. Having the extra batter in the second innings was pretty handy if they happened to get on last night,...

Manchester, July 19 (Ians) Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad made impactful contributions to give England first day honours in the fourth Ashes 2023 Test as Australia were 299-8 at stumps at Old Trafford, here on Thursday.
Woakes picked 4-52 in 18.5 overs to be England’s best bowler of the day, while Broad took 2-68 in 14 overs. During the opening day, Broad also reached 600 Test wickets, becoming just the second fast bowler and fifth bowler overall to reach the landmark.
It was a day where all Australian batters got starts, but none converted it into a big total.
After England elected to bowl first as skipper Ben Stokes went against the narrative of batting first, Broad moved to 599 Test wickets when he trapped Usman Khawaja lbw for three early in the morning session. David Warner shared a second-wicket stand of 46 with Marnus Labuschagne (51), before being dismissed by Woakes for 42.

Old Trafford (Manchester), July 18 (Ians) Fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green and pace Josh Hazlewood made their return as Australia announced their Playing XI for the fourth match of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series, with visitors to go into a Test without a specialist spinner for the first time in over a decade.
Scott Boland and Todd Murphy make way for Green and Hazlewood from the side that lost by three wickets at Headingley.
Fit-again Green, who missed the Leeds Test with a hamstring injury, has been listed to bat at seven, behind Mitch Marsh at No.6, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey to come in at No.8 as the Aussies rejigged the balance of their side to squeeze in their two all-rounders.
Marsh struck a blazing century in Leeds to guarantee his spot, leaving Murphy as the fall guy with Green coming back into the side to give captain Pat Cummins five pace bowling options.

Manchester, July 17 (Ians) Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine said he would prefer Josh Hazlewood instead of Scott Boland and sees no place for Cameron Green in the playing eleven for the fourth Ashes Test, set to start on July 19 at Old Trafford. Australia are currently leading five-game Ashes 2-1.
Boland has picked only two wickets in the two Tests he’s played, compared to Hazlewood taking eight wickets in the same period of time. At the third Ashes Test in Headingley, Mitchell Marsh marked his return to Test cricket with a century in the first innings and picked a few scalps as Green sat out due to a low-grade hamstring injury.
“People are going to be slightly disappointed if you’re looking for any headlines or any drastic changes. Both of these teams under their new coaches have tried to set an environment where guys feel really comfortable to...

Manchester, July 15 (Ians) Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey said he had no regrets over the controversial stumping of his England counterpart Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s and expressed surprise over some nasty stuff being said about it since then.
Bairstow was batting on 10 and England were at 193/5 in the 52nd over when he ducked under a bouncer from Cameron Green and inadvertently walked out of his crease. On seeing that, Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey immediately directed an underarm throw after catching the delivery, and jumped in joy after firing an accurate throw towards the stumps.
It led to chaos in the middle as Bairstow believed the ball was dead, with Australia immediately going for an appeal. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Gaffaney sent the decision upstairs, where TV umpire Marais Erasmus confirmed Bairstow’s dismissal, as England eventually lost by 43 runs despite a heroic 155 from captain Ben Stokes.

Leeds, July 9 (Ians) Though Rain wiped out the first two sessions on Day Three of the ongoing third Ashes Test at Headingley, it didn’t stop the action from moving at a frenetic pace in the one session of play possible on Saturday.
In the end, England reached 27/0 at stumps in a chase of 251 after their bowlers made good use of the overcast conditions to bowl out Australia for 224. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley remained unbeaten on 18 and 9 respectively for England to leave the required runs to 224.
Resuming from 116/4 and with their lead at 142 runs, the total could have been a lot less for Australia if Travis Head hadn’t struck a magnificent 77 in conditions that were very tricky for batting.
Chris Woakes (3-68) dismissed first-innings centurion Mitchell Marsh (nicked behind) and Alex Carey (chopped onto his stumps) in quick succession, while Mark Wood (3-66) took out Mitchell Starc and...

London, July 4 (Ians) Australian batter Travis Head has revealed that Jonny Bairstow almost stumped him the exact same way as Alex Carey, when he was walking out after an over in the first Test of Ashes 2023.
On the fifth day of the second Test, Bairstow left his ground, believing the ball to be dead and the over to have concluded but wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw at the stumps and the Australian was given out and the visitors eventually won by 43 runs.
Speaking on LiSTNR’s Willow Talk podcast, Head revealed he and Bairstow were involved in a conversation about a first Test moment where the English keeper almost did the exact same thing.
“Jonny wasn’t too pleased. And I sort of reminded Jonny last week I walked out of my crease at the end of an over. I quickly whipped my bat back and questioned Jonny on whether he...

London, July 4 (Ians) England head coach Brendon McCullum believes the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s will only “galvanise” the hosts as they look to win the crucial third Test, starting on July 6 at Headingley, Leeds.
On the final day of the second Ashes Test, Bairstow, under the assumption that the ball had been declared dead and the over had ended, unintentionally vacated his crease as wicketkeeper Alex Carey launched a throw towards the stumps, resulting in his dismissal.
The dismissal proved to be a game-changer, as the hosts were defeated by 43 runs to fall into a 0-2 deficit in the best-of-five series.
“I don’t know if it’s anger but the unit is galvanised. There are times as a coach where you’ve got to reduce emotion because it’s going to bubble over and you can make poor decisions,...

London, July 2 (Ians) When it mattered the most for England, captain Ben Stokes dished out yet another heroic and stunning 155 in the pursuit of chasing 371. But it was not enough for the hosts to avoid a 43-run loss to Australia on a thrilling fifth and final day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Sunday.
Resuming the final day on 114/4, Stokes and Ben Duckett (83) added a further 63 runs before the former fell to Josh Hazlewood just after the first hour of the morning session was over.
Jonny Bairstow was run-out in controversial circumstances for 10, as wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the ball at the stumps after the batter wandered out of the crease while avoiding a bouncer, leaving England at 193/6, with the crowd booing Australia and some confrontational scenes happening in Long Room at lunch break.

London, July 1 (Ians) After setting a stiff target of 371, Australia put in a strong bowling performance to leave England at 114/4 at the close of day four’s play in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Saturday.
For England, Ben Duckett (50 not out) and captain Ben Stokes (29 not out) shared an unbroken 69-run stand for the fifth wicket after being reduced to 45/4, as the hosts now need 257 more runs for an improbable win on an exciting day five to level the five-game series.
In what was another enthralling day of Test, England pulled things back with the ball to bowl out Australia for 279 in 101.5 overs, with Stuart Broad the pick of the bowlers with 4/65 in 24.5 overs.
But Mitchell Starc’s burst with the new ball, one that accounted for Zak Crawley, caught down leg-side attempting an ambitious flick, and Ollie Pope, cleaned up a fast inswinging beauty, put Australia...

London, June 29 (Ians) Opener Ben Duckett led England’s response on day two of the second men’s Ashes Test at Lord’s with a fine 98 as the hosts’ reached 278/4 in 61 overs at stumps and trail Australia by just 138 runs on Thursday.
On a day where the action was chaotic and swung like a pendulum, Australia were bowled out for 416, with premier batter Steve Smith making 110, his 32nd Test hundred. Pacers Josh Tongue and Ollie Robinson took three wickets each as Australia lost their last five wickets for 65 runs.
In reply, England’s opening pair of Duckett and Zak Crawley shared a 91-run opening stand, also England’s highest partnership from its openers in an Ashes Test since 2010/11.
But a stunning collapse of three wickets for 34 runs in 7.3 overs saw Australia fightback in the match despite losing Nathan Lyon to right calf injury in the 37th over.

London, June 4 (Ians) Fast-bowling all-rounder Michael Neser has been named as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood in Australias squad for the World Test Championship Final clash against India starting at The Oval from June 7.
As per the International Cricket Council (Icc), Hazlewood has been ruled out of the marquee match due to his ongoing left Achilles and left side issue. Neser, who has played two Tests and as many ODIs for Australia, has been brought in for the Wtc Final squad after his inclusion was approved by the Event Technical Committee.
Hazlewood had also missed this ‘ear’s tour of India due to a left Achilles tendon issue, which delayed his arrival in Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023. He then left the tournament after playing only three games for Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) due to a side issue.
Hazlewood had also missed a majority of the last two home summers due to side strains.

Hazlewood had missed Australia’s tour of India due to a left achilles tendon issue, which delayed his arrival in Ipl 2023. He then left the tournament after playing only three games due to a side issue.
Recently, Hazlewood had said that he is nearing full fitness to play in the Wtc final against India starting from June 7 at The Oval in London. He had also missed a majority of the last two Australian home summers due to side strains.
Boland, on the other hand, is coming off a ten-week break since his last outing via the Sheffield Shield final in March. With concerns over Hazlewood gaining full fitness in time for the Wtc final, Boland, who averages 13.42 with the ball in the second championship cycle, is firmly in the picture to play his first-ever Test in England.

Dubai, May 31 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has picked only one specialist spinner in the combined Test XI he would select from the two teams set to meet in the World Test Championship final.
Hussain could find room for only one tweaker in a combined Test XI ahead of their rematch in the Icc World Test Championship final in London.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took a combined 47 wickets as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil, while Australia spinners Nathan Lyon and newcomer Todd Murphy were also a threat with 36 scalps apiece.
Lyon (81) and Ashwin (61) were also among the leading wicket-takers across the Wtc cycle, but only one spinner from the two teams could earn a spot in the former England skipper’s combined Test XI.

Ahmedabad, March 10 (Ians) India openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma saw off the tricky 10 overs with relative ease to be unbeaten on 18 and 17 respectively as the hosts were 36/0, trailing Australia by 444 runs at stumps on second day of the fourth Test, here on Friday.
With the pitch still in favour of stroke play at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Rohit was pristine in his timing, flicking and cutting off Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon with relative ease. On the other hand, Gill sweetly played a short-arm jab on a short ball from Cameron Green, before dancing down the pitch to smash a six off Lyon at the stroke of stumps.
Earlier, ace India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked a six-wicket haul in a magical display of skill and control to bowl out Australia for 480. With pitch not showing much signs of sharp turn, Ashwin single-handedly got India back in the match, especially...

Ahmedabad, March 9 (Ians) Australia captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first in the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Thursday.
Having won the third match at Indore, Australia need to win this Test to level the series 2-2.
They decided to go into this Test with an unchanged squad.
“We are going to have a bat, playing with the same team. Looks like a nice surface, does look like a good wicket. The guys performed well last week,” Smith said at the toss.
India skipper Rohit Sharma said he would have also batted first.
“We would have batted first. We know what needs to be done. We need to regroup as a team, you can reflect on so many things. Not the surface what we saw in the first three Tests, looks like a good pitch,...

Ahmedabad, March 7 (Ians) Australian spinner Todd Murphy, who has dismissed Virat Kohli in three consecutive Test matches of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, on Tuesday revealed that it has been an ‘awesome’ achievement and a really enjoyable battle while recalling his experience of bowling to the star India batter for the first time in the series opener in Nagpur.
Murphy had Kohli superbly caught down the leg side by Alex Carey during a dream Test debut that netted the 22-year-old seven wickets in India’s first innings and further impressive performances during the second and third Tests have only further confirmed that the right-arm belongs at the top level.
Just earning a debut cap was a big honour for Murphy, but dismissing Kohli on three separate occasions during his first three Test appearances has provided even more joy for the young spinner.

Victorian Maxwell returned to play last week with games in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition and Marsh Sheffield Shield for Victoria while Marsh is expected to play the next two Marsh Cup matches for Western Australia before heading to India.

Ashwin set up the collapse to pick 3/59, before Jadeja ran through the Australian batting line-up as Australia crashed to 113 all out, after starting the day from 61/1 and being 86/2 at one stage, in their second innings. The Australian batting implosion gave India a target of 115, which they completed in 28.4 overs.
Rohit Sharma began the chase by driving wide of mid-on for a boundary off Matthew Kuhnemann in the opening over. But in the next over, he lost his opening partner Kl Rahul in an unlucky fashion. Rahul flicked well to the right of short leg off Nathan Lyon, but the ball lobbed up in the air after hitting the top of forward short leg’s pad and the keeper took an easy catch.

The win also means India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy too, with two matches still left.
Post lunch, resuming from 14/1, India began with an attacking intent. Cheteshwar Pujara danced down the pitch to whip Matthew Kuhnemann through mid-wicket for four. New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) Australia’s left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey stated the side is cautious about the threat which reverse-swing can pose ahead of the spin examination awaiting the visitors in India ahead of the first Test at Nagpur starting from February 9.
Australia’s Test squad is currently in Alur, Bengaluru for a four-day preparation camp before leaving from Nagpur for the first Test and practising in spin-friendly conditions, followed by matches in New Delhi, Dharamshala and Ahmedabad.
“Going to Pakistan it was a lot of spin talk and I found the reverse swinging ball difficult. I played a four-day game (for Australia A against India A at Bengaluru) here in 2018 and a lot of the talk was about spin and probably forget a bit about how damaging both team’s fast bowlers are with the reverse-swinging ball, a wicket that might be a bit up and down.”

New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell believes the Pat Cummins-led side will have to put their best foot forward in terms of talent and experience during the upcoming four-match series against India as succeeding in the country will take a lot of pluck, planning, patience and persistence.
Australia and India, currently ranked number one and two respectively in both Icc Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ongoing Icc World Test Championship 2023 cycle, will meet in a highly-anticipated four-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held in Nagpur (February 9-13), New Delhi (February 17-21), Dharamshala (March 1-5) and Ahmedabad (March 9-13).
India are the current holder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three series against Australia in 2017, 2018-19 and 2020-21. Australia, on the other hand, are aiming to win a Test series in India after having done so last time in 2004.

Sydney, Jan 25 (Ians) Australian batter Matt Renshaw has picked ace India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as the key Indian bowler and the toughest to face in the upcoming four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting from February 9 in Nagpur.
With Australia’s batting line-up packed with left-handers like David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Alex Carey apart from Renshaw himself, Ashwin will be crucial for India as he became the first bowler to take 200 wickets against left-hand batters in 2021.
“Ashwin is difficult to face. He is a smart bowler with a lot of variations and he uses them very well, but you do get used to him once you’ve faced him for a while,” Renshaw was quoted as saying by Aap.
He added that the Australian batters will have to be wary of the delivery which doesn’t spin from Ashwin and can trap the batters lbw.

Sydney, Jan 1 (Ians) Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said on Sunday that the playing eleven for the third and final Test against South Africa, starting from January 4, will be decided only until they see the pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), which is expected to be spin-friendly.
“One thing I’ve learned around wickets recently is never assume anything. I think we’ll just wait and see what unfolds from the ground staff in terms of the wicket they prepare. But what I will say around that is that we feel as though we’ve got a squad for whatever that surface may be. We’ve got pretty much all bases covered,” McDonald was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
McDonald added that Australia’s selectors wanted a left-arm orthodox to complement the right-arm off-spin of Nathan Lyon, which is why Ashton Agar was included in squad for the Sydney Test.

Melbourne, Dec 30 (Ians) With Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green battling injuries, Australia’s national selectors on Friday called in reinforcements in the form of spinner Ashton Agar and batter Matthew Renshaw for the third and final Test against South Africa, starting in Sydney on January 4.
Australia has taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series going into the Sydney Test but injuries have hampered them in the process as bowlers have faced issues with skipper Pat Cummins, Nathan Hazlewood and now Mitchell Starc facing various issues at various times.
Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green suffered injuries in the innings and 182-run victory against South Africa in the second Test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With sweltering conditions in Melbourne, David Warner, who struck a double hundred in his 100th Test, also had to retire hurt due to cramps.

Melbourne, Dec 29 (Ians) Set to miss the third and final Test of the ongoing series against South Africa at Sydney, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is targetting to return for the tour of India in February 2023.
Green broke a bone in his finger after being stuck by a rising Anrich Nortje delivery while batting late on the second day of the ongoing second Test against the Proteas and was forced to retire hurt. Scans have revealed that Green has a small fracture to his right index finger and Australia won’t take any risks with the in-form 23-year-old ahead of a hectic upcoming schedule. That’s the reason he has been pulled out of the Sydney Test.

Melbourne, Dec 28 (Ians) Left-handed batter Alex Carey on Wednesday scripted history as he became the second Australian wicket-keeper after legendary Rod Marsh to score a Test century at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG), on the third day of the second Test against South Africa, here.
Carey celebrated a brisk maiden Test hundred (111) in typically understated fashion. He carved a wide ball through the off-side with only an ear-to-ear grin giving away the fact he had just reached the rare milestone.
Infact, his batting partner Cameron Green showed even more elation, raising both arms as he ran from the other end before exchanging an embrace with Carey. The 31-year-old, who took 131 balls to bring up his century, was, however, visibly emotional after his achievement.
“As is Alex Carey’s way, there was a real humility in the way that he celebrated that,” his former Test coach Justin Langer told Channel Seven.

Melbourne, Dec 27 (Ians) Starved off a century for nearly three years, underfire Australian opener David Warner respond with a brilliant double century in his milestone 100th Test, becoming only the second batsman after England’s Joe Root to do so, on the second day of the second Test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.
Warner joined a special club in the afternoon session, becoming the 10th batsman to score a century in his 100th Test in the Boxing Day Test, becoming the second Aussie batter in this elite list. He went on to set an even better record, racing to his double century as Australia took the driver’s seat in the second test, scoring 386/3 off 91 overs in the second Test against South Africa.

Sydney, Oct 21 (Ians) Legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist has said the loss of back-up wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis due to a freak injury on the golf course just a couple of days before the commencement of the Super 12 stage of the Icc T20 World Cup is “significant”, and added young allrounder Cameron Green is the right replacement for the injured player.
Green beat the likes of Alex Carey, Josh Philippe, Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis for the spot that unexpectedly became available in the 15-member squad.
“It’s an opportune time to get Green in,” Gilchrist said on Sen Wa Breakfast on Friday. “I don’t think we should take too lightly that Inglis is more than a wicketkeeper. He’s a versatile batting option that can slide up and down that order from one to seven.

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Ahead of their first Super 12 match in Icc Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand here on Saturday, Australia have announced all-rounder Cameron Green as a replacement for injured Josh Inglis in their 15-man squad, with the approval of the Event Technical Committee.
Inglis, the wicketkeeper-batter who has played nine T20Is for Australia and was seen as a backup to the main keeper Matthew Wade, suffered a freak injury while playing golf in Sydney on Wednesday. He sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through, resulting in surgery being needed for the same and requiring stitches.

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a hand injury, which head coach Andrew McDonald called “an incredibly freak accident” while playing golf in Sydney.
Inglis, who has played nine T20Is for Australia, sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through. His exit from the tournament now sees Australia in a conundrum on who would be the preferred injury replacement.
“An incredibly freak accident to Josh, unfortunately. Playing the second hole at New South Wales, a short par three, he hit a six iron and as he made contact with the ground, the shaft snapped around the grip area and cut into his hands. It’s not looking good for Josh,” said McDonald on Sen Radio’s Whateley show.

Melbourne, Oct 18 (Ians) Australian Test captain Pat Cummins, who also got additional charge of leading the Odi side on Tuesday, would have rejected Cricket Australia’s (CA) offer had it come a year back, but with almost 12 months of successfully leading the team in the longest format, accepting the dual responsibility was a “no brainer”.
Cummins led the Australian Test side to victories in the Ashes and on the historic tour of Pakistan earlier this year and was on Tuesday appointed the Odi skipper as well to replace Aaron Finch who recently retired from the 50-over format.
Cummins will now lead the Australian side in the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.
“I would have (said no) 12 months ago,” Cummins said on Sen’s Whateley. “I think it’s been a bit of a journey, it’s probably a slightly different style. We’re 12 months out from a World Cup, I think there’s 14 Odi games.

Melbourne, Oct 18 (Ians) Australia Test skipper and pace spearhead Pat Cummins has been entrusted the task of leading the One-day International (Odi) side as well following the retirement of Aaron Finch.
Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday endorsed the 29-year-old Cummins, who guided Australia to a 4-0 Ashes triumph earlier this year, to become the country’s 27th Odi captain.
Ben Oliver, CA’s Egm of High Performance and National Teams, said, “We are very fortunate to have a number of high-quality leaders and senior players across all formats. The (CA) Board and selectors agree Pat (Cummins) is the ideal choice to lead the Odi team through the next period including the 2023 World Cup (in India).”
CA’s chairman of selectors George Bailey said, “Pat has done an excellent job since taking on the captaincy of the Test side and we look forward to him leading the one-day team to the 2023 World Cup in India.

Mohali, Sep 19 (Ians) Australia T20I skipper Aaron Finch on Monday said one would have to be a very, very brave man to write off talismanic batter Virat Kohli at any stage in the game.
Finch went to on call what Kohli, the former India captain, has achieved in his international cricket career as “just ridiculous”.
Earlier this month, Kohli overcame a prolonged lean patch with the bat in the Asia Cup 2022 by scoring his 71st international century against Afghanistan in the last Super Four match of India. The unbeaten 122, also his career-best effort in T20Is, was his first international century since November 2019.
Kohli was the second-highest run-getter in Asia Cup 2022, making 276 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 147.59, including two fifties.

Melbourne, Sep 16 (Ians) Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh does not want to get bogged down by Odi captaincy conversations following Aaron Finch’s recent retirement from the format, and instead the 30-year-old wants to fix his mind on retaining the Icc T20 World Cup at home in October-November.
While several names are rumoured to be in contention for Odi captaincy — including batting stalwart David Warner, Test captain Pat Cummins, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey and former skipper Steve Smith — Marsh too is a strong contender for the post with less than a year to go for the 2023 World Cup in India.
Marsh, though, said all those conversations could happen “down the track” but the immediate goal was the T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on October 16.
“I need to be very careful what I say here, you know I don’t like headlines,” Marsh told cricket.com.au. “I think there may be conversations down the track.

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 27 (Ians) Australia’s white-ball skipper Aaron Finch has hinted at a major shake-up in the Odi batting line-up when the hosts take on Zimbabwe in the first of the three-match series to be played here on Sunday, with charismatic batter Marnus Labuschagne omitted as the Kangaroos go into the game packed with all-rounders.
A report in cricket.com.au said on Saturday that the playing XI for the first Odi will have wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey elevated to No.4, while Steve Smith will fill the No.3 position and Mitchell Marsh will move from No.3 to No. 6 spot.
Finch added that Labuschagne’s omission is “down to a new structure they want to test out”.
“The reasoning behind Marnus (Labuschagne) is we’re just going with an allrounder-heavy side,” Finch said on Saturday.
“Two quicks plus (leg-spinner Adam) Zampa, and Cameron Green as the fourth genuine bowler. And then using (Mitchell) Marsh,...

Perth, Aug 27 (Ians) Tall Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has signed up to play for Perth Scorchers in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (Bbl), giving a huge boost to the side ahead of the 12th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament.
The 23-year-old Green will likely be available for the Scorchers’ final six games of the season following the conclusion of the New Year’s Test against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), according to a report in cricket.com.au.
Green will be returning to the Scorchers side after the Bbl-9 season, when he burst onto the international stage and became an integral part of Australia’s Test side. Green, who has quickly moulded his game for all three formats, recently gave impressive performances during the Odi tours of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and made his T20 debut in national colours against Pakistan in April.
