This week talk about accusations of Disney gouging its customers. We talk about viral reports of family trips costing over $13,000, reports of the $200 lightsabers from Galaxy’s Edge breaking down, and the usual grousing about Genie Plus and upcharges. In other news, we talk about the Disney Proxy Battle, Joe Rohde possibly returning to Imagineering, Frozen voice actor Josh Gad getting social media blowback and… the Easter Bunny coming to Magic Kingdom.

The internet is buzzing about a new Instagram post that Joe Rohde put up today showing him reentering the famous Disney Imagineering building with the caption, “Do a bit of work at the old farm.” Everyone is trying to decide if the soon-to-be Disney Legend will return to Wdi.

So far, Rohde has not officially returned to Wdi, although many people want him to do so.
It seems he is there to teach a master class.
“Beginning this week, Imagineers have an opportunity to participate in a series of master class work sessions led by Joe Rohde. Following in the footsteps of many former Imagineers, Joe continues to mentor and share his years of storytelling knowledge with current Imagineers, contributing to the future of creativity at Walt Disney Imagineering.”
Oftentimes, Imagineers return from time to time to do consulting work for Disney.

Each year Disney honors various important Disney-related people by making them Disney Legends. According to Disney, they try to find those who have” pushed the envelope of creativity, challenged conventional wisdom, and broken the restraints of the status quo in search of new possibilities and excellence.”

A theme park attraction can't just have a successful opening weekend, like a movie. This is something that needs to be built to last for decades that will hopefully never wain in popularity. For Disney in recent years, that has meant looking to their various intellectual properties for inspiration. Once they acquired Lucasfilm, "Star Wars" was going into the theme parks without question. Same goes for Marvel, once they could figure out how Universal's Florida theme park rights affected things. Plus, they have a library of generational animated classics to work with.
One of their more unusual and quickest turnarounds in recent years was Pandora — The World of "Avatar" at Animal Kingdom in Disney World. At the time of this deal, Disney did not yet own what was then 20th Century Fox, so this was a licensing deal to use James Cameron's alien world in their parks. Principally...

“Jungle Cruise,” the new adventure movie based off the Disney Parks ride starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, sailed into movie theaters on Friday. For those who want to watch from home, you can order the movie on Disney+ Premier Access and stream it from multiple devices.
Not familiar with Premier Access? It’s a bit different than Disney+ in that you pay $29.99 for new releases the same day that they hit theaters. The cost is in addition to the $7.99 monthly subscription fee (unless you’ve already signed up for a free Disney+ subscription for up to six months). Disney+ Premier Access can be a little confusing if you’re new to the interface,...

Disney+ announced today that they will premiere all episodes of Behind the Attraction on July 16.
The original series, narrated by Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds), looks to give viewers a peek ‘behind the curtain’ of Disney Parks and Resorts’ most beloved attractions and destinations. While rides including Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Star Tours, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Space Mountain and it’s a small world will each get their own episode, the other four are dedicated to the iconic Disneyland Hotel, the Hall of Presidents attraction, and the castles at Disney’s parks, along with their unique system of trains, trams and monorails.
The story of each attraction is brought to life through the use of archival and never-before-seen footage and photography, as well as rare interviews with Walt Disney. Also appearing in the docuseries to divulge a secret or two are Disney Legends and an assortment of (past and present) Imagineers,...

While its focus is firmly forward thinking, Siggraph 2018, the computer graphics, animation, virtual reality, games, digital art, mixed reality, and emerging technologies conference, is also tipping its hat to the past thanks to its theme this year: Generations. The conference runs Aug. 12-16 in Vancouver, B.C.
“In the literal people sense, pioneers in the computer graphics industry are standing shoulder to shoulder with researchers, practitioners and the future of the industry — young people — mentoring them, dabbling across multiple disciplines to innovate, relate, and grow,” says Siggraph 2018 conference chair Roy C. Anthony, VP of creative development and operations at software and technology firm Ventuz. “This is really what Siggraph has always been about. Generations really seemed like a very appropriate way of looking back and remembering where we all came from and how far we’ve come.”
One of the first Siggraph memories for both Anthony and this year’s keynote speaker,...
