- Edinburgh based film and television composer Nick Watson has had compositions broadcast to an unsuspecting public on global television networks such as the BBC, The Discovery Channel, MTV, Channel 4 and E4. Other notable sync works include a recent ad campaign for Narciso Rodriguez, a Cinema Festival Lunen nominated full length 'Young & Wild', an FilmG award winning short film 'My Brother Went For Sweets', among other short films and documentaries.
Nick Watson is a graduate of the Composition For Screen Masters programme from the highly regarded University of Edinburgh Reid School of Music, where he learned to embrace new compositional techniques and open his mind to new ideas, experimenting with approaches unfamiliar to a guitar and keys player with a background of conventional music teaching.
By taking what he learned at the University of Edinburgh, combined with a natural yearning for trying new concepts and themes with his music, Nick has released a series of EPs, singles and albums via Spotify and Bandcamp, under the moniker Please Optimist.
The first release; 'Fashion Week' EP, is a lush, layered passion project for Nick's admiration for ambient and down-tempo electronic music in the vein of Eluvium and The Album Leaf.
This was followed by 'Earth Tones', a reflective contemporary classical EP taking inspiration from cities visited and not.
The most recent release; 'Obstine', is a 3 track experiment based around a repeating chord progression. Each track is its own play on the progression, each track a different form of some of Nick's favoured musical themes; ambient drone, long form evolving ambient orchestral and contemporary classical.
With a cutting-edge studio set up, Nick crafts his distinctive sound with a blend of live instruments, electronic soundscapes, sound design elements and custom sampling.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Nicholas Watson
