Bob Dylan has never been an artist worried about appealing to a mainstream audience, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t aware of the artists who modern audiences enjoy. Dylan does share praise for modern artists, but it’s somewhat rare to hear from the legendary singer. However, in 2006, Bob Dylan wrote a song that mentioned Alicia Keys, and Keys was shocked since the two had never met.
Bob Dylan mentioned Alicia Keys in his song ‘Thunder on the Mountain’ Bob Dylan | KMazur/WireImage
Bob Dylan doesn’t traditionally namedrop other artists in his songs. Even if he directs a track at someone, it’s usually more subtle. However, his 2006 song “Thunder on the Mountain” from Modern Times directly referenced “No One” singer Alicia Keys. The song includes the lyrics: “I was thinkin’ ’bout Alicia Keys, couldn’t keep from crying/But she was born in Hell’s Kitchen,...

Bob Dylan is a notoriously private musician with a reputation for being a bit curmudgeonly, but he has taken the time to praise other musicians. Some are artists he has worked with extensively, some are early idols, and some may surprise Dylan fans. Here are six artists that Dylan has praised over the years.
Bob Dylan | Steve Morley/Redferns Woody Guthrie
Woody Guthrie was one of Dylan’s primary influences. He was one of the main reasons Dylan moved to New York, and his influence on Dylan’s early work is apparent. He recalled hearing Guthrie’s music and feeling that his life had changed.
“I put one on the turntable and when the needle dropped, I was stunned-didn’t know if I was stoned or straight,” Dylan wrote in his memoir Chronicles: Volume One, later adding, “All these songs together, one after another made my head spin. It made me want to gasp.

British hard rock duo Royal Blood unleashed a ferocious performance of "Lights Out" on The Late Late Show With James Corden. The track appears on the band's new album, How Did We Get So Dark?

Sunday at Leeds Festival was a big day, in more ways than one.
With rock the order of the day after Saturday night’s crowning slot for Mumford & Sons, the Main Stage boasted a mix of rising and risen talent that most festivals would probably reserve for a lower level stage. But then that’s part of Reading & Leeds’ charm: it’s not stuffy or pretentious about booking, and it’s clearly not afraid to offend or provoke.
The highlights on the excellent third day were numerous and mostly unsurprising from bands who have great live shows in their blood, but familiarity never breeds content where class is concerned.
Props too to Fidlar, who were good, despite the fact that their second microphone wasn’t turned on at first. Likewise Atreyu – uncharitably pushed aside by a clash with the hugely popular Royal Blood – had their own...

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 won’t be released for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 on the same date as the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version, Activision has announced.
As is becoming the norm, it seems, last-gen versions of cross-generation titles are receiving less and less precedence over current ones. It does make sense, after all. The Xbox One and PS4 are now the primary console platforms, and while Activision haven’t stated whether the development of the last-gen version of Tony Hawk will be outsourced to another studio – it wouldn’t come as any surprise if it has.
The current-gen version is still on course for an October 2 release, with the 360 and PS3 versions following a month later in November.
In addition to the above news, Activision have also released the entire track list that’ll you be listening to while skating and grinding your way around town. Check it...

As festival season is well underway, we are now at the halfway point of the year and it has proved a fruitful one for rock music. Despite the claims that ‘rock is dead’, the genre has been revitalized somewhat in the mainstream with bands like Royal Blood and Muse bringing their harder flavor of rock to the general public.
This has been further solidified by the recent study on Spotify that suggests that heavy metal is more popular than pop music. Though slightly misleading, it’s clear that both genres still maintain a passionate and loyal fan-base.
2015 has also saw a resurgence of older artists making a return to the center stage with bands like Slayer taking to the metal pulpit once again and the much anticipated album release by Faith No More after eighteen years out of action. It has also been a great year for...
