Derek Kwan is a Chinese-Canadian Actor and Filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada. He wrote and directed the short film, 100 Days (2023), a Telefilm Not Short on Talent selection which showcased at the Short Film Corner during the Festival de Cannes 2023. Derek also won Outstanding Short Director for 100 Days (2023) at the Reelworld Film Festival 2023. Derek Kwan was part of the Bell Media / BIPOC TV & Film Unscripted Producers Lab in 2023 with a focus on showrunning. He was 1st AD on the 2023 SXSW Jury Award winning music video "Different Than Before" by Amanda Sum and directed by Mayumi Yoshida. Derek Kwan was named one of 20 emerging filmmakers in Canada as part of Reelworld's E20 Program in 2021. He was a producer on Maundy (2022) and Idols Never Die (2019), both Telefilm Not Short on Talent selections showcased at the Short Film Corner during the Festival de Cannes, 2019 and 2022. Derek was also part of the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices cohort in 2022. He directed the documentary film, Me (2018), winning Grand Jury Best Short Documentary at SAAFF 2019 and Best Short Documentary at DisOrient 2019, notable screenings include AAIFF and Toronto Reel Asian in 2019.
