From a ‘James Bond In African Jungles’ to a 1000/1500 crore budget, the film has invited all kinds of reports & rumors owing to the level it’s going to have.
To begin with, the whole 1000 crore budget is a hoax only to attract more eyeballs. But the fact that it’s going to be an African jungle adventure film is true because Rajamouli’s father & the film’s screenwriter, V. Vijayendra Prasad, confirmed that they’re shooting in Africa.

Following the critical and commercial success of the first May the Devil Take You, director Timo Tjahjanto brings several costars back this go-round for a second thrilling chapter in the series of Alfie confronting terrifying ghostly beings. Despite a few minor miscalculations from time-to-time, this is a spectacular and rewarding sequel now available to stream on Shudder.
Believing she has survived the ordeal, Alfie (Chelsea Islan) and Nara (Hadijah Shahab) try to get by with their lives only to be suddenly attacked and kidnapped by a group of intruders one evening. Revealing themselves as Budi, (Baskara Mahendra) Marta, (Karina Salim), Leo (Arya Vasco), Gadis (Widika Sidmore) and Kristi (Lutesha) who under the guise of Jenar (Shareefa Daanish) bring her back to the orphanage in order to help them deal with a spirit haunting the group. Earlier this month, the 2020 Nightstream Film Festival offered up genre fans a ton of amazing online offerings to enjoy throughout its four-day festivities. Here’s a look at two of the films I had the opportunity to watch during Nightstream: May the Devil Take You Too from Timo Tjahjanto (which hits Shudder soon) and Jesse Blanchard’s puppet splatterfest, Frank & Zed.
May the Devil Take You Too: Two years ago, Timo Tjahjanto unleashed May the Devil Take You, his demonic thrill ride pitting a young woman named Alfie (Chelsea Islan) and her step-family against sinister forces that want nothing more than to claim their souls. Now, Tjahjanto is back with his follow-up effort, May the Devil Take You Too, which feels slightly more ambitious and polished than its predecessor, and once again evokes a Raimi-esque sense of banana pants filmmaking that delivers up a ton of devilishly fun gore and violence.

Currently one of the hottest directors working in Asia, director Timo Tjahjanto has offered a slew of explosive and engaging efforts that are placing him at the forefront of international success. Not only has the man broken away being part of ‘The Mo Brothers’ with Kimo Stamboel, Timo followed up his previous action highlight ‘The Night Comes For Us’ with his standout horror film ‘Sebelum Iblis Menjemput,’ or streaming on Netflix under the title ‘May the Devil Take You.’
Fearing for her father, Alfie arrives at the hospital to meet him only to find her stepsiblings Maya, Ruben (Samo Rafael), Nara, (Hadijah Shahab) and their mother Laksmi there as well. As they engage in their usual bickering, the group is forced by circumstances beyond their control to investigate his house in order to find out what happened to him. They say that idle hands are the devil’s playthings, but Indonesian schlockmeister Timo Tjahjanto is never busier than when he’s skirting around the fringes of hell. Just a few long weeks after the release of his gonzo and blood-drenched beat-em-up, “The Night Comes for Us,” Tjahjanto is back with a gonzo and blood-drenched dose of domestic horror, “May the Devil Take You” (viewers familiar with the director’s gobstopping “V/H/S 2” segment won’t be surprised to see that he’s drawn to movies about the inescapable forces of darkness). Both films are available to stream on Netflix, both films offer giddy proof of Tjahjanto’s insatiable appetite for human suffering (both on the screen and in the audience), and both films become interminable reminders that geysers of blood can only get you so far.

Recently enjoying its North American theatrical premiere at Fantastic Fest, Timo Tjahjanto's May the Devil Takes You (original-language title: Sebelum Iblis Menjemput ) arrives today on Netflix and it's a must-watch for horror fans. Tjahjanto also recently directed The Night Comes For You, an extremely violent action spectacular that debuted on Netflix (available with Bahasa Indonesia subtitles) last month. (Here's my very positive review.) So, if you haven't seen that one yet, your weekend viewing is now set! I recommend seeing the action spectacular first and then the creepy horror flick. May the Devil Takes You follows a young woman named Alfie (Chelsea Islan), who heads to her family's disused home in the countryside after her father Lesmana (Ray Sahetapy) falls into a mysterious coma....

Downton Abbey star Peter Egan joined campaigners from the Dog Meat-Free Indonesia coalition and Care2 to hand deliver a petition to the Indonesian Embassy calling for an end to the country’s brutal dog and cat meat trade.
One million signatures were collected from around the world, to represent the more than 1 million dogs and hundreds of thousands of cats who are killed each year in Indonesia for human consumption.
Dmfi is a coalition of international and Indonesian animal protection organisations comprising Change For Animals Foundation, Humane Society International, Animals Asia, Four Paws, Animal Friends Jogja and Jakarta Animal Aid Network who have spent years documenting the brutality of the dog and cat meat trades, and campaigned tirelessly for an end to these horrors on grounds of both animal cruelty and risks to public health.
The petition hand in follows a series of Dmfi investigations exposing the heart-breaking horror of the trade.

Writer/ director Timo Tjahjanto doesn’t hold back on punching out the gore laden shocks in this inept but playful Indonesian frightener that draws heavily from J-Horror and The Evil Dead. The scares start swiftly in a pre-credit sequence which deftly relays titbits required before plunging viewers face first into the fug of a bungled ritual. The pact sees financially struggling, middle aged father, Lesmana (Ray Sahetapy) make a deal with a demon in exchange for wealth. Lesmana becomes cursed with inevitable set-backs (usually detailed in the small print of such transactions) then finds himself bankrupt, hospitalised and edging on death. Lesmana’s wife and children move into his villa, discover demonic paraphernalia and are forced into battle with soul hungry spectres, hell-bent on possessing then massacring them.
Scares intensify steadily through Mtdty’s riveting set-up before an opening credit sequence glides through Lesmana’s life post ritual/ in the run up to his hospitalisation.

Shocking nationwide investigations by animal campaigners from the newly-launched “Dog Meat-Free Indonesia” coalition, expose the horrifying brutality and suffering endured by up to a million dogs every year for Indonesia’s dog meat trade.
Video: I didn't Know - ending the dog meat trade in Indonesia - UK
In the coalition’s campaign video launched today, dogs, including stolen family pets, are shown being roughly snatched from the streets and crammed onto the back of trucks with their legs and mouths bound with string. The clearly terrified dogs are driven for hours to supply markets, slaughterhouses and restaurants, where they are brutally beaten and then bled out for their meat in front of each other. The World Health Organization has also identified Indonesia’s dog meat trade as a major contributor to lethal rabies in the country.

Bad guys go on the rampage in this stylish and excessively gory iteration of the action genre
This Indonesian action film unfolds a story as old as time, or at least as old as film noir, in which a bad man (the undeniably charismatic Iko Uwais) experiences a trauma so severe (shot in the head, thrown into the sea) he wakes up with amnesia and somehow a completely different personality (which seems unlikely from a neurological point of view). Nerdy-cute medic Ailin (Chelsea Islan) nurses him back to health in the hospital and names him Ishmael after the narrator of Moby-Dick, which she happens to be reading at the time.
The film-making owes far less to any literary antecedents than it does to the kind of ultra-violent, stylish action films made in Hong Kong and Korea. As such, it’s a very good iteration of the genre, with moody lighting,...

Everything you need to know about “Headshot,” an Indonesian bloodbath that stars the same actor from “The Raid” and feels like it was cut together from that film’s deleted footage, can be gleaned from an early fight scene aboard a public bus that’s just been shot to pieces by a gang of vicious criminals.
Our hero, an amnesiac ass-kicker named Ishmael (Iko Uwais), doesn’t remember that he used to be a member of the same syndicate that he’s now trying to kill, hops on board and promptly begins to snap ligaments and gouge eyeballs. Directors Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto make spectacular use of the confined area, and — as with all of the many, many death matches that are stretched across this saga — the sequence continues for so long that you forget how the characters actually got there.

The Raid star Iko Uwais deserves to silat his way through a million hapless evil men, but here’s hoping that, going forward, he picks better cinematic vehicles for his frighteningly fast feet and fists. Then again, every big action star worth their salt has a host of forgettable turns peppering the true showcases for their physical greatness. At least Headshot is good fun. It’s simultaneously a testament to directors Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel’s skill and the disappointing lack in mainstream action filmmaking that their middle-of-the-road effort still stands out among the rest.

Now, Iko Uwais stars in “Headshot” as a man who wakes up with no memory of his identity or past. His devoted student doctor Ailin (Chelsea Islan) names him “Ishmael” and helps him regain his memory; soon he learns about his past involving Lee (Sunny Pang), a vengeful drug lord. Dear America – please outsource all action films to Indonesia from here-on-out. How can you watch a movie like Headshot and be content with typical Us ground-and-pound generics? The Mo Brothers (Kimo Stamboel/Timo Tjahjanto) break more bones than a twenty-story fall, (assumably) spending most of their budget on limb-cracking practical effects that still can’t distract from such aggressive beauty. Iko Uwais makes Jason Bourne look like a punk bitch in this brilliantly bone-crunching symphony of destruction, proving both the Mo Brothers and Mr. Uwais to be as boldly badass as we hoped their latest genre assault would permit.
Uwais plays a man who calls himself Ishmael, only because he wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory or identification. In the room is a napping Dr. Ailin (Chelsea Islan), who’s shocked by the previously-comatose patient’s now lively demeanor. She immediately begins nursing the empty-minded Ishmael back to strength,...

With its relatively simple premise and mesmerizing fight choreography, Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans produced a modern-day cult classic in The Raid: Redemption five years ago, a low-budget thriller that crammed in more stomach-churning deaths and dizzying Silat stunts that you can shake a machete at. It also fostered a kick-ass working relationship between Evans and Indonesian action star Iko Uwais, who went on to reunite for The Raid 2 in 2014.
Headlining two critically-acclaimed action movies in the space of three years undoubtedly put Uwais on the international map, and with Tiff 2016 looming large, the actor is returning to the fray for amnesiac thriller, Headshot.
Directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto – the latter of whom penned the screenplay – what has us cautiously optimistic for this latest Uwais-fronted actioner is how Headshot looks to balance its visceral, bone-crunching action with a story that, at least based on today’s brief trailer,...

Indonesian based Mo Brothers (actual names Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto) make yet another turn in their career. From low budget slasher “Macabre” to internationally backed thriller”Killers,” and now to a genuine action film, with “Headshot.”
In a sort of Indonesian edition of Jason Bourne, the film features Iko Uwais as Ismail, an amnesiac who washes ashore with a serious head injury. A woman doctor (Chelsea Islan) nurses him back to health as he falls in love with her. Eventually though, he discovers that he is a trained killing machine, as his past returns to haunt him.
Julie Estelle, Very Tri Yulisman and Sunny Pang also star in the film.
“Headshot” is much reminiscent of “The Raid:Redemption”, with impressive and quite violent action.
The film will premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.
