15 entered, 10 performed, five were ousted. In the second night of American Idol's brutal "Rush Week," it was the guys' turn to take the stage and perform for America's votes. Well, not all the guys as the Fox reality hit's three judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., eliminated five of the hopefuls before they even got a chance to sign. Way harsh, no?! Tuesday's show saw the exit of five ladies, including Brandy Neely, Austin Wolfe, Andrina Brogden, Kenzie Hall and Jillian Jensen. So which five guys were sent home on Wednesday night? And what did the 10 lucky contestants who made it to the stage sing? First, let's do a quick run down of the Top 10...

"American Idol" Season 13 is finally starting the live shows with the Top 15 girls Tuesday (Feb. 18), though only 10 of them will get to perform, which doesn't seem very fair (and as it will turn out, is not fair because so many of them completely tank). They've been working hard in boot camp all week and now only some of them get to perform? Mean.
Before things kick off, Harry Connick Jr. says this is the most talented group since the first year. That's ... not a good comparison. Kelly Clarkson is awesome, but let's not get carried away that Season 1 is the pinnacle of talent for this show, Hcj.
Just as a reminder, the viewers will vote five men and five women into the Top 13 and the judges will pick the three wild card spots. Let's get to the performances:
1. Majesty Rose, 'Happy,' Pharrell Williams
Terrible song choice. Majesty can sing,...

It’s the last ‘American Idol’ episode before the live show, and in a surprising twist, the Top 30 is actually the Top 29 — until America decides between Neco Starr and Ben Briley!
We’ve made it, you guys. American Idol auditions are finally over and the semi-finalists for the live shows have been chosen! Mostly. The judges made some really thoughtful choices and we think we’ve got a pretty solid group — but we’re still missing our 30th! The judges couldn’t decide between Ben Briley and Neco Starr, leaving their fate up to America. See below for all the highlights and our finalists so far!
‘American Idol’ Recap: Feb. 13 Highlights — Top 29 Revealed
We left off last night, Feb. 12, with Casey Thrasher and Cj Harris singing off against each other for a spot in the Top 30. The cliffhanger was for naught, as they both made it through. Weak.

American Idol has really done it this time. They’re pitting two of the semifinalist guys — authentic country crooner Ben Briley, 24, and flashy vocal dazzler Neco Starr, 22 — against each other for Your Vote — tonight! It honestly seems wildly unfair and random to me that the vote needs to be between these specific guys. Neco was battling sickness and didn’t sound anywhere near his best in the Solo Night footage shown along with the voting info. (All of that is below.) We’ll learn which guy gets to stay during next week’s special-night show on Tuesday, in which the...

Time to meet the Top 30 of "American Idol" Xiii. Wednesday (Feb. 12) the judges revealed the first 17 slots, nine boys and eight girls. Time to find out which singers get the last 13 spots.
Highlights of Thursday (Feb. 13) include:
The Cj Harris-Casey Thrasher face-off ended in both of them going through, which is what we were hoping for.Caleb Johnson's final song is "Radioactive" and J-Lo is rocking out to it and the judges put him through, but caution him that he'll have to work hard against these more traditionally talented singers. We're sad to see Nalani Quintello go, we liked her voice (what little we saw of her).Conversely, we're surprised to see Briston Maroney be chosen. We find his voice weak and nasally. Is he some cannon fodder?Briana Oakley's final solo song is enormous, it's so good. She's brought into the room with Brandy Neelly, who did...

After thousands of auditions, hundreds of golden tickets and weeks of performances, there was a first on Wednesday's American Idol: An openly gay contestant made the Top 30.
M.K. Nobilette, 20, broke that barrier, saying, "I'm very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America … who will definitely hate me, but I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that."
"The world is changing," said Jennifer Lopez, "and we think you could be an American Idol."
Other girls to make the Top 15 girls include:

American Idol returned on Wednesday with Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban narrowing down the field of talent to 30 – 15 boys and 15 girls.
'American Idol' Recap
Following the group round, the American Idol contestants got one last chance to sing before the judges. They had the option of choosing a song off a list and being accompanied by a live band or playing an original song. Aside from a select few, playing an original song proved to be a poor choice, as their song writing abilities didn’t match their singing talents.
Sam Woolf was an exception with his performance of his original song “I Tried,” which was inspired by the aftermath of his mom leaving his family behind. The heartfelt lyrics and his strong voice made him a shoe in for the top 15 guys. Jesse Meuse also sang an original song. Hers, called “Done,” was about an “idiot.

Of course it’s sad that this is a news headline, that it took this long, that this is reality. But hey, let’s be happy about it instead — someone had to break the ice! M.K. Nobilette, 20, is officially the first openly gay contestant on American Idol. It’s really just a crazy technicality: Gay contestants in the past had never spoken of their sexuality on camera, seemingly by the show’s design.
“I’m very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me,” said Nobilette while waiting...

It's time for one of those filler episodes of "American Idol" -- the contestants remaining after Hollywood Week are made to take the longest elevator ride of their lives and then sit in the dreaded singular chair as the judges start the selection process on the Top 30.
At least when most singers either ride the elevator or are waiting for their judgment, we are treated to a performance from Hollywood that we may have not seen yet.
Highlights (and lowlights) include:
Emily Piriz singing and playing the piano on "Stars" by Grace Potter. Absolutely gorgeous. Thankfully, she is chosen for the Top 30.An original song by Spencer Lloyd is perhaps a misstep, but the judges still select him -- and of course they do, because he's a good singer and super attractive.Madelyn Patterson is the first person the show says goodbye to, which is too bad. She kicks off...
