The latest entry in the animated franchise, Resident Evil: Death Island comes two years after the last entry, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and is set in 2015, just after the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta but before Resident Evil 7. Got that?
Somewhere in San Fransisco Dso Agent Leon S. Kennedy is trying to recover kidnapped scientist Dr. Antonio Taylor (Frank Todaro) when a mysterious woman appears and, after a high-speed chase, causes him to crash. Claire Redfield is also in town, trying to find out what kind of creature can use Orcas as a food source. And whether or not the creature is a bioweapon.
Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers are also looking for answers.

Resident Evil is a video-game franchise with no foreseeable end in sight. And as Capcom’s zombie shooter approaches the big 3-0, it unleashes another entry in the often overlooked animated series of films. Taking place between games 6 and 7, and following 2017’s Vendetta, the story of Resident Evil: Death Island is subject to the same formula as its predecessors. A big threat brews somewhere, and the characters rush in to stop it. However, the new animated film does manage to set itself apart by featuring an all-star cast and complementing the over-the-top action sequences with organic emotional moments.
While the previous animated films — Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta — tend to star only a few major characters from the game franchise, Death Island includes four heavy-hitters. Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Claire Redfield are all active during this mission.

It’s the final week of July and two more new horror movies are headed onto the big screen this weekend. They’ll have to compete with the #Barbenheimer phenomenon, but both new horror releases look to bring very different counter programming to the box office. One is the next rated “R” fright fest from A24, while the other is a horror-comedy built for families.
Here’s all the new horror releasing July 25– July 30, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
First up, a tragedy leads two dysfunctional families to intertwine in disturbing ways in Screambox Exclusive Repulse, now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered platform.
The bleak, brutal Czech film harkens back to boundary-pushing horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.
In the film, Kateřina and Robert raise their young daughter in a luxurious modern villa, but their family life can hardly be called harmonious.

A new live-action film based on the Resident Evil video game franchise is in the works (we’ve heard that it’s called Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and based on the game Resident Evil Zero), but while we wait to see how that’s going to turn out, we’re also going to have a new computer animated Resident Evil movie to watch. This one is called Resident Evil: Death Island, and it’s set to receive a Blu-ray, 4K steelbook, DVD, and digital release on July 25th! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Resident Evil: Death Island is the fourth animated Resident Evil feature, following Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta. There was also an animated mini-series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Liv Tyler is set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe 15 years after starring in Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The "Lord of the Rings" star isn't pulling double duty with a new character, but will actually be reprising her role as scientist Betty Ross in the upcoming film "Captain America: New World Order," per the outlet.
The inclusion of Tyler's Betty all but officially brings the once-neglected 2008 Hulk film back into Marvel canon, as she joins Tim Roth's Abomination on the list of characters from the film who have made a comeback despite the fact that the film featured an entirely different actor playing Bruce Banner.
Though the McU's Betty hasn't been seen in live-action in years, an animated alternate timeline version of the character (voiced by Stephanie Panisello) appeared in the animated "What If...?" series in 2021. She's also related to a key...

Once the Bruno of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk" has seen its reputation slowly rehabilitated in recent years. The 2008 film remains the first and only movie to feature Edward Norton as wayward scientist Bruce Banner, as well as The Other Guy's lone solo outing in the MCU under the terms of Marvel Studios' complicated deal with Universal for the Hulk screen rights. 14 years later, it remains the McU's lowest-grossing release at the box office, though it no longer holds the worst critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Progress!
Norton's creative clashes with Marvel Studios infamously led to them parting ways after "The Incredible Hulk," with Mark Ruffalo taking over the titular role starting in 2012's "The Avengers." That and the movie's middling financial performance a mere month after "Iron Man" rocked the scene were all the reasons the House of Ideas needed to ignore Leterrier's Hulk adventure for years.

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to order a second season of Resident Evil, its action horror series loosely based on the popular video game franchise. The news, which comes a month and a half after the series’ July 14 release, is not entirely surprising as the drama did not have a particularly strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10 and cost vs. viewing is the streamer’s leading renewal criterion.
Running partly in the shadow of mega genre hit Stranger Things, which was released within the same time frame, Resident Evil debuted at No. 2 with an Ok 72.7 million hours viewed. But It did not deliver the big Week 2 bump one would like to see for a new series as word of mouth spreads, raking in 73.3M hours viewed in its second week for a No. 3 finish before dropping precipitously and falling out of the Top 10 after only three weeks. This review contains spoilers for What If…? episode 3.
Episode 3 of Marvel Studios’ What If…? animated series is an enjoyably ridiculous, twisty whodunnit revolving around Shield boss Nick Fury as he tries to work out who exactly is taking out his Avengers Initiative candidates before they’ve had a chance to join the team.
At first, the episode seems to be pondering what would have happened if most of the Og Avengers (minus Captain America) were murdered pre-Battle of New York, but we later find out that the actual “what if?” here is “what would have happened if Hope van Dyne had joined Shield and died in the line of duty?”
If you’re a regular Den of Geek reader, you’ll probably know by now that our What If…? reviews are adopting a different format. More of a breakdown that we hope will satisfy die-hard Marvel fans but also help...

This Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness article contains spoilers.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness explores a time of change for its main characters. Years removed from the Raccoon City disaster that first brought them together, Leon S. Kennedy (Nick Apostolides) and Claire Redfield (Stephanie Panisello) are still leading the fight against bio-organic weapons but from different angles. Set after Resident Evil 4 but before the Kijuju incident in Resident Evil 5, Leon has embraced his role as President Graham’s top security man after saving his daughter from Los Iluminados. Meanwhile, Claire is overseas, working for an Ngo in the war-torn country of Penamstan, where a bloody civil war has left the nation in crisis.
But these heroes don’t stay apart for long. By the end of the first episode, they’re on a new mission that’ll take Leon to Chinese soil and Claire to the very depths of a...

At best, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is a curious detour, non-required viewing for even the series’ most hardcore fans. Set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and 5, the four-part miniseries tells a story about shady government cover-ups that lacks substance or anything particularly interesting to say. Even series favorites Leon S. Kennedy (Nick Apostolides) and Claire Redfield (Stephanie Panisello) can’t save this CG monstrosity from animated mediocrity.
Infinite Darkness sees our heroes covering familiar territory from opposite directions. Leon is now fully under the employ of the U.S. government after saving the president’s daughter from Los Iluminados in Resident Evil 4, and he even wears a suit while stopping a zombie outbreak inside the White House. Meanwhile, Claire works for an Ngo in the fictional nation of Penamstan, which was torn apart by a civil war fueled by American interests and a few biological weapons. Despite hardly...

Neflix has unveiled the leading cast for its live-action Resident Evil series, with Lance Reddick set to star as Albert Wesker.
Also joining the John Wick and Bosch actor are Adeline Rudolph, Siena Agudong, Poala Nunez, Tamara Smart and Ella Balinska. Netflix revealed its leading cast in the gaming news-filled final day of its Geeked Week event.
The eight-episode drama series, inspired by Capcom’s hugely popular horror game franchise, hails from Supernatural executive producer/co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and produced by Constantin Film, which is behind the Resident Evil movie. The series will feature a new story across two timelines.
In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it...

With the Resident Evil 3 remake out of the way, speculation is building about Resident Evil 8. This is rumored to feature Resident Evil 7 star Ethan Winter, and is said to be set in an isolated mountain village, acting as a “major departure” for the series. On top of that, we’ve also had word that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is on the cards and scheduled for 2022.
With those two games in development, the existing Resident Evil voice cast is guaranteed work for the next few years. In fact, a recent episode of the Residence of Evil podcast brought together the main casts of both remakes for a lighthearted roundtable discussion about what it’s like to step into Capcom’s gore-soaked world. Following the massive success of this year’s Resident Evil 2 remake, it’s no wonder that Capcom is open to revisiting some of its other classics and dusting off various intellectual properties. With that in mind, fans have already begun pondering the possibilities of modernized versions of the first Dino Crisis and Devil May Cry games, in addition to several others.
To be quite honest, I believe Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to be next on the company’s agenda, as that’s already said to be in development. But after that, I do think there’s a good possibility a Code: Veronica remake could follow. After all, there’s already been much demand for it online, so why not give the people what they want?
Should Capcom indeed want to revisit Code: Veronica somewhere down the line, voice actress Stephanie Panisello is apparently down for reprising her Claire Redfield role.
