Maynard James Keenan has earned his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu after decades of training in the martial art.
The Tool frontman’s fellow black belt Ty Gay took to Instagram to share the news, along with a photo alongside a freshly promoted Maynard.
“Congratulations to my friend, training partner, and sometimes nemesis @iamthebriefcase on the monumental task of receiving his Black Belt today,” wrote Gay in the post. “Was an amazing event, with a bunch of truly amazing people. Today, Jiu-Jitsu became just a little bit better.”
Some of Keenan’s other training partners and jiu-jitsu colleagues also commented on the post to congratulate Keenan on the monumental achievement.

Mma star Cat Zingano has sued Halle Berry, alleging that she passed up a key UFC fight in order to appear in Berry’s film about mixed martial arts — only to be dropped from both UFC and the film.
Berry’s film, “Bruised,” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is due out on Netflix in November. Berry makes her directorial debut and stars as an Mma fighter who is also a single mother.
In the suit, Zingano states that Berry asked her to appear in the film during a meeting in July 2019. The suit states that Berry noted the parallels between the script and Zingano’s own life story. Season 1 originally aired on Verizon Go90, but the second season that explores what drives world-class athletes to pursue combat sports will make the jump to ESPN’s streaming channel, it was announced Monday.

Ronda Rousey is proving that she’s physically prepared to take back the belt on Friday night. On Thursday, all eyes were on the former Ufc women’s bantamweight champion as she took off her gear and stepped on the scale to weigh in for Ufc 207 against the new champion, Amanda Nunes.
Rousey, who has been absent from the public eye since her loss to Holly Holm last November, stepped onto the scale looking extremely well-conditioned and is noticeably leaner. One thing is for certain, the former champion has been working extremely hard on her physique.
