Superficially, Dangerous Liaisons would seem to be serving up everything a Dangerous Liaisons series ought to. The Starz drama is positively overflowing with beautiful people vowing love and revenge with equal fervor, toying with each other’s sentiments and reputations in pursuit of power or just plain fun — all from within the gorgeously ornate trappings of 18th-century French nobility, the impending revolution barely a whisper on the wind.
And for a spell, it feels like it could be enough. But as the season progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that the accusations the characters throw at one another of lacking heart may as well be levied toward the series itself. With paper-thin characters and a narrative that prioritizes momentum over emotional depth, its confectionary delights dissolve as quickly as sugar on the tongue.

"Do you smell something yucky?" Oh now this is a good one. Nyet! A Brexit UK Border Farce is a new short film made by London-based filmmakers Alex Helfrecht & Jörg Tittel. This satire mocking the crazy times in the UK is about two immigrants crossing the border who are stopped for bringing contraband over the border. But they're stopped for all the wrong reasons. The short stars Olivia Williams, Beatie Edney, Garry Mountaine, and introducing Gabriella Moran and Dimitri Gripari. For those outside of the UK who don't get this, it's about how Brexit is limiting contraband like cheese and foreign food because it's from the EU. With just 18 days to go before the U.K. is set to exit the European Union, Sky has acquired “Nyet! – A Brexit U.K. Border Farce.” The timely short film hails from Alex Helfrecht, Jorg Tittel and Philip Munger’s shingle Oiffy (“The White King”) and will be available to millions of Sky subscribers in the U.K. on the Sky Arts channel.
“Nyet!” mines a seam of black humor in which post-Brexit British border ports are clogged and there is an illicit trade in food from the European mainland. The short stars Olivia Williams (“An Education”), Beatie Edney (“Poldark”) and Garry Mountaine (“The Lobster”) alongside newcomers Gabriella Moran and Dimitri Gripari. Moran and Gripari play a young couple caught in post-Brexit customs hell in the film. The actors all gave their time for free.
