A live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series was in development for Paramount+ and had even been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order by the streaming service, but Deadline now reports that the project is no longer moving forward.
However, the Dungeons & Dragons series isn’t entirely dead, as Hasbro Entertainment will be shopping it to other potential buyers. It’s also said the series will receive a creative update which will be tackled by a new creative team. The version which was sold to Paramount+ was overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper), who wrote the pilot script and was going to direct the first episode. Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) was brought on to serve as executive producer and showrunner last year.
The report states that Hasbro remains committed to the Dungeons & Dragons TV series, meaning that it will likely be a matter of when, not if, the project emerges elsewhere.

We’ve all grown up hearing the classic fairytale. A brother and sister are turned out of their home and sent by their wicked stepmother to survive in the deep, dark woods. The ingenious Hansel leaves a trail of pebbles and breadcrumbs to find the way home, but they eventually fall into the clutches of a sinister witch. While Gretel does get credit for pushing the old witch into the oven before she can roast and eat Hansel, most of the story’s heroism still falls on male shoulders. But what if Gretel was actually the one responsible for the sibling’s survival? What if it’s her courage and fortitude that saves the day while her brother is little more than a burden? Oz Perkins’s nightmarish film turns the classic fairy tale on its head...

Whenever I get asked to recommend a good horror movie- I immediately take into consideration who I’m recommending it to. The key to a good movie recommendation is to compliment the other person’s tastes and suggest something that will comfortably expand their horizons. It also helps if the movie you’re recommending is criminally underseen for how incredibly well-made it is. Here’s what I mean- In 2020- yes, That 2020- the entire world was affected by unprecedented events that caused the everyday lives of everyday people to dramatically change. One of the many industries that suffered during this time was the Movie Theater industry. It was rough. It was stale. It was fucking Groundhog Day. At first, there were delays- movies just weren’t coming out at all. Then, some that were meant for theaters and Imax ended up going straight to streaming, delays, delays, more delays.

When Gillian Flynn novels hit the screen, it tends to result in something highly watchable. Take, for instance, David Fincher’s big-screen adaptation of Gone Girl, with its stellar casting of Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck, or HBO’s adaptation of the ultra-dark Sharp Objects, anchored by the ace Amy Adams. Now, another of Flynn’s novels is being adapted into an HBO series – her Sharp Objects follow-up Dark Places.
The series will see Flynn serve as co-creator, writer, and co-showrunner, working alongside Brett Johnson in all those capacities – while Guerrin Gardner will be co-creator and writer. The show is said to be in early development, so stay tuned for updates of it moving further into the pipeline. The novel was previously adapted as a film by writer-director Gilles Paquet-Brenner in 2015, with Charlize Theron leading the cast, though it went largely under the radar and received mixed reviews.

The year began, as they usually do, with so much promise. This was, after all, supposed to be the year that DC came roaring back, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the long-awaited The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Marvel had its own big slate. We were to be in a Shangri-La of screen superheroes. Yet in the end, it appeared the comic book movies failed audiences.
Or did they? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, based on comics from the 1980s, is one of the top animated movies of the year. David Fincher’s stylish The Killer is based on a French graphic novel. And of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is a towering achievement even beyond the medium of animation.
In other corners, movies based on toys, for the most part, are looked down upon and are considered jokes. But here, too, 2023 surprised us.

It was about a year ago that we learned that Hideo Kojima would be bringing his acclaimed game Death Stranding to the big screen, thanks to a partnership with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios. Now A24 is getting in on the act with the announcement that they’ll be partnered with Kojima’s Kojima Productions to help out with the adaptation of Death Stranding.
A24 made the announcement themselves via a post on X. They’ve even marked the occasion by unveiling a set of new shirts featuring the A24 logo done in a Death Stranding style.
Kojima responded to the announcement in a press release, saying: “A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted...

The hallmark of a great ensemble is one where each player feels precisely in-tune with the tone and goal of the film, willing to shine in their moment while sharing the spotlight. Designer Hideo Kojima and Get Out director Jordan Peele are teaming up for “a totally new style of game” called Od.
Having menaced us with the most intense post-apocalyptic parcel delivery simulator ever made with Death Stranding, designer Hideo Kojima has announced his latest project. It’s called Od, and it’s being made in collaboration with Jordan Peele, the director of such genre delights as Get Out, Us and Nope.
A teaser trailer, unveiled at last night’s The Game Awards, shows actors Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schaffer and the legendary reciting a distinctly unsettling phrase straight down the virtual lens. We don’t exactly know what a hungry purple dinosaur (Barney?) or a kind, zingy fox has to do with anything, but the promo’s undoubtedly a showcase for the latest generation of performance capture technology – we really are creeping towards an age of photo-real digital actors.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves may not have been a box-office success, but it did receive some pretty rave reviews, but is that enough to justify a sequel? Chris Pine believes so, as he recently teased Dungeons & Dragons 2 while speaking with GamesRadar.
“I’ve heard some rumors about it,” Chris Pine said of a possible Dungeons & Dragons 2. “But I don’t know anything yet. But I feel pretty confident that it may happen.” When asked if he would return to reprise his role of Egdin Darvis, Pine responded, “Absolutely.“
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure which follows “A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

One of the most celebrated cinematic interpretations of Stephen King is the two-film adaptation of his seminal horror novel "It." Directed by Andy Muschietti, with the movies released in 2017 and 2019, "It" follows the twisted coming-of-age of a group of childhood friends in Derry, Maine. While the seven kids are harassed by neighborhood bully Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang of teenage ne'er-do-wells, a different kind of evil festers under Derry. Primarily appearing in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), this otherworldly monster instills fear in its young victims before consuming them entirely.
Though the creature has haunted the region since ancient times, the first chapter takes place in the summer of 1989. That's when Pennywise surfaces to claim new victims around Derry while setting its sights on the main characters. Finding strength and solace in numbers, these friends refer to themselves share a bond under the banner...

Re-releases reliably dot the theatrical calendar and this week have a standout. Oldboy, the 2004 Cannes prize-winner, re-released by Neon on its 20th anniversary restored and remastered, grossed $235k on Wednesday and $150k Thursday — for a total cume $385k on 250 screens heading into the weekend.
San Francisco, NYC and LA, led by Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, are the top-performing cities so far for Park Chan-wook’s classic film — the first screening in U.S. theaters since its original North American release in 2005.
Oldboy follows Oh Dae-Su (Choi Min-sik), who, after being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, is released but must find his captor in five days. The critically acclaimed film is the second installment of Park’s The Vengeance Trilogy, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and followed by Lady Vengeance (2005). Oldboy won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. It grossed $15 million worldwide, and saw...

This interview took place in June 2023 as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.
Sophia Lillis and Hannah Gross could be sisters in real life. The pair have a rapport that seems like it might have developed across years of inside jokes and shared experiences, which makes it easy to see why they work so well as siblings alongside Michael Cera in the movie "The Adults," which hits theaters Aug. 18.
Gross and Lillis play sisters who live together in their childhood home in a suburban town that feels slightly faded, like a memory lived in too long. Rachel (Gross), who took over responsibility for the house after their parents' deaths, works at the local radio station, while Maggie (Lillis) has dropped out of college, claiming it stifled her creativity.
The fractures in the pair's relationship become visible when their older brother, Eric (Cera), arrives for a very brief visit for the first time in three years.

Sophia Lillis was just 14 years old when she signed on for her first major role, playing Beverly Marsh, the heart of the so-called Losers of Stephen King’s seminal horror tome “It,” in Andy Muschietti’s two-film take on the material. It was the kind of star-making gig many other performers would be happy to rest on, well, forever. But eight years on from that first feature, Lillis is eager to keep building her resume, moving away from “child actress” into just “actress” territory.
It helps that Lillis was choosy even when she was a “child actress,” taking on the “It” films, the HBO Gillian Flynn miniseries “Sharp Objects,” the underseen Netflix series “I Am Not Okay with This,” and even one spin as Nancy Drew and another as Gretel (of “Hansel & Gretel” fame). Now aged 21, Lillis has about a dozen onscreen credits to her name, but they all belie...

The Adults. If Dustin Guy Defa’s third feature, The Adults, has all the makings of a breakthrough, it does so not solely due to its enthusiastic reception at the Berlinale or its Universal-assisted distribution deal, but because it’s the first of the 45-year-old writer-director’s films to combine his knack for offbeat characterizations with the kind of deeply felt emotion only sporadically seen in his prior work. Unlike many of his more prolific American contemporaries, Defa’s career has progressed in oddly fitful fashion, with lengthy gaps between features broken up by a number of singular short films that, until now, have best displayed his seriocomic approach to matters of urban millennial angst and alienation. The Adults both extends and expands on these themes in ways that open up Defa’s previously cloistered world of neurotic New Yorkers, eccentric artist types, and emotionally unavailable twentysomethings.Starring Michael Cera,...

It’s February in Berlin and Michael Cera is dodging bullets. What’s it like, one reporter asks, to be a new dad? “It’s like a new obsession,” the actor explains, “it’s all you care about.” Filming Juno? “My memories are very nebulous, but it was fun!” Keeping in touch with Elliot Paige? “We don’t speak very often, but it’s always nice when we get together.“ Can he talk about Barbie? “I’ve been told I would be punished.” Working with Greta Gerwig? “A really confident and very fun and collaborative director.” Being mistaken for Jesse Eisenberg? “He told me he gets that, too!” His dream role? “Zuckerberg?” Dustin Guy Defa chimes in, getting a big laugh, “That would be the best.”

The Adults is a family comedy-drama film, but it is R-rated because of its adult language. Written & Directed by Dustin Guy Defa, The Adults follows Eric as he takes a short trip back home to meet his sisters and old friends but the short trip turns into a mess of unresolved familial issues and a trip down the nostalgic lane. Complicated sibling relationships are the basis of Dustin Guy Defa’s The Adults. The film depicts the emotional journey of three siblings — played by Michael Cera, Hannah Gross and Sophia Lillis — reuniting after their mother’s death, a scenario that, while rife with potential conflict, also presents an opportunity for reconnection, understanding and healing. As Defa portrays, such a reunion can cause the distance that has grown between siblings over time to become painfully real.

All good things come to an end, and for Bryan Cranston, the end of his acting career could arrive by 2026. Speaking to British GQ about the future, Cranston says he plans to retire from acting (for a limited time) and move to France in the coming years.

Cranston says he plans to shut down his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, and pause his acting career for at least six months. He’s nearing 70 and wants to enjoy life without Hollywood looming over his shoulder.

After a fairly quiet last few years (at least since his iconic brief stint in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return), Michael Cera is back in the spotlight. "You used to think I was the funniest person in the world..." Variance Films has unveiled an official trailer for the indie comedy The Adults, which initially premiered at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year. It's also playing at the Tribeca Film Festival next in June before opening later in August. The second feature film from filmmaker Dustin Guy Defa after Person to Person, which also starred Michael Cera. The plan to make a trip back home as short as possible begins to unravel as Eric finds himself struggling with balancing the challenging relationship with his two sisters and his addiction to a local poker game. A film about not wanting to grow up. Berlinale describes it as "a shrewd study of the pitiless condition known as adulthood." Starring Michael Cera as Eric, with Hannah Gross, Sophia Lillis, Wavyy Jonez, Anoop Desai, Kyra Tantao, Kiah McKirnan, & Simon Kim.

Disney+ just had its best weekend in months, thanks to the streaming debut of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
The third “Ant-Man” flick, which once again features Paul Rudd in the starring role, was the most-streamed movie in the U.S. last week, according to Whip Media’s movie ranker, which is based on viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.
That’s a big deal for Disney+. Why? Because it had been a minute since Disney+ topped Whip Media’s movie ranker — back in early February, when “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” landed on the service.
