For years one of the most passionate debates among mixed martial arts centered around who would win should top pound-for-pound fighters and future hall of famers Anderson Silva and George St. Pierre ever step into the octagon against one another. At the height of the discussion both men were champions, decisively cleaning out their respective divisions and Dana White was much less open to the idea of a superfight between two of his top draws.
But times have changed. St. Pierre is currently retired, vacating the welterweight championship he held for a record combined 2,204 days after his final fight against Johny Hendricks and has only recently begun publicly flirting with the prospect of a comeback. Silva has struggled since losing his middleweight title to Chris Weidman via knockout and dropping the rematch when he shattered his leg throwing a kick. He has a record of 1-2 since being uncrowned,...

We’re full tilt in the Mma/Pro wrestling crossover. Never before have the two ventures been as closely linked as they are now. Forget that Ken Shamrock once made his way over to the WWE; now more than ever, the baddest men on the planet are looking to find work in the WWE, and the WWE superstars are considering crossing over to legitimate mixed martial arts to test their mettle.
Why? For one, Mma was not really a profitable venture twenty years ago. The likes of The Undertaker, The Rock, and Kurt Angle have all stated that if it had been, they’d likely have gone that route. Now, Mma can pay – at least top stars – and it doesn’t require a grueling travel schedule.
On the flip side, many Mma stars have grown up as fans of the WWE. Look no further than women’s champ Ronda Rousey,...

What ifs are always good for a lark, but lets not put that cart before the hose: before he fights anyone else, Anderson Silva needs to beat Nick Diaz.
Now, while Diaz is no slouch, a lot of factors are working against him. For one, he’s been out of the fight game quite a while; longer than Anderson Silva himself actually. Two, there’s a size disadvantage, and three, he’s fighting one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all time in Anderson Silva.
And it appears to be a motivated Anderson Silva who is making his return at Ufc 183. Just recently, a video clip was released showing Silva knocking out a training partner with a flying knee in preparation for the fight. Fighters don’t usually go that hard in training, so Silva was either really into the moment, or...

When you talk of the Greatest of All Time in Mma (the Goat), you have three options for the most part: Georges St. Pierre, recognized as the most dominant welterweight in Ufc history. Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered the greatest heavyweight of all time. And Anderson Silva, the greatest middleweight of all time.
Each option has its merits, but one thing is for certain: no fighter was as feared as Silva during his peak. “The Spider” had explosiveness that few could match, combined with pinpoint striking accuracy. Facing Anderson Silva was for many akin to a death sentence; their fate was certain, only the time at which it came was up in the air.
Though he has not won a fight since 2012, and was defeated twice in 2013 by now middleweight champion Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva remains the consensus greatest middleweight of all time. He continues...

If you follow pro wrestling, than you know all about “pushing” fighters – building up their name, getting them air time, booking them in favourable matches, basically, turning them into stars.
Believe it or not, the world of Mma requires something of the same: the fight business is the promotion business, and name fighters sell fights. No one cares if two guys nobody has ever heard of are fighting next Saturday, even if they’re the most skilled mixed martial artists around – because if you don’t know who they are, what does it matter? To garner interest, you need to build names, and to do that, you need to push fighters.
The Ufc has often made the mistake of putting the brand first, and it is paying for that policy now. There are champions the general public has barely heard of, and as more...

Whether it’s a 90th minute penalty or a buzzer beating three-pointer, every sport has those blockbuster flashes of brilliances, those hair raising events that mark a moment in history, but few compare to a devastating knockout in the cage.
Maybe it’s our animalistic origins, for some reason fighting is relatable in every corner of the globe, humans just get it, and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Ufc. Founded in 1993, the holy grail of Mma organisations has showcased the best fighters from around the world since its humble beginning.
Hundreds of Ultimate Fighters have come and gone, and of course, there can only be one winner, but in what is without a doubt the most unpredictable sport known to man, some people still lean towards certain fighters as the so called favourites. However, time and time again history has proven...

A regular Ufc fight is three rounds so that a clear winner can be decided in the case of a decision. Trilogy fights are like decisions on steroids because it gives us three full fights to see who is the better of two fighters. In these trilogies you’ll find lucky wins, one-sided beatings, and brutal wars that make legends. Each trilogy is a story, some taking years to unfold.
Here are ten of the best storied trilogies which concluded in the Ufc, let’s get straight to it!

Mixed martial arts is a beautiful contest of violence and technique. It is a blending of all of the martial arts in an effort to achieve the maximum level of efficiency in hand-to-hand combat. Through observation of this sport one comes to realizations that there are limitations to the human body and its ability to perform, these men fight with a spirit beyond their physical capabilities – racking up some stunning achievements along the way.
Mixed martial artists are among the fittest of athletes because the stakes in their sport are so high. A mistake in football costs a team points, a mistake in Mma costs a person brain cells. While watching fighters flirt with the limit of human physicality in every fight it’s absolutely shocking to see when a fighter goes beyond the limits. At a press conference late Wednesday in Tokyo, while on a media tour in Asia promoting the upcoming Ufc Fight Night in China, Dana White announced a historic partnership with Vale Tudo Japan/Shooto to air an Mma competition similar to the Ultimate Fighter, though the show will apparently not carry the Tuf name.
Vale Tudo Japan initially featured annual tournament format events, run by Shooto, though they later dropped the tournament format. First occurring in 1994, there would be no Vtj event for 10 years between 1999 and 2009. The last Vtj event was in 2013, which saw Megumi Fumi lose her retirement match due to a Tko delivered by Jessica Aguilar in the main event.
The deal is historic as the Ufc has traditionally refrained from co-promoting events with other organizations. Japan, however, is a notoriously difficult market for a foreign operation to break into, and while...

With news of Chael Sonnen’s drug test failure and subsequent retirement, and the complete chaos that surrounded his match with Wanderlei Silva, then Vitor Belfort, at Ufc 175, it’s time to look back at the most notorious drug test failures in Ufc history. We’ll include all drugs, not just steroids, to mix things up a little.
Drugs have wreaked havoc in Mma over the years, and some notable names have come out in favour of strong testing and enforcement, including one of the greatest of all time, Georges St. Pierre, who voluntarily submitted to more intense drug testing than most fighters during what would become his final match to date in the Ufc. Roy “Big Country” Nelson has been another vocal opponent against PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) in the sport. Both these fighters are fan favourites, and a reflection of them in...

The Spider’s leg is healing, and he’s been providing updates recently on his return to training. Who’s next?
The return to training for Anderson Silva brings up an important question: having lost twice in a row to Chris Weidman, who could Silva face next? The Gsp and Jon Jones fights still sound interesting. What about a lower level contender? Could you even go the opposite route, and drop him into another match with Weidman after the last one ended in an unfortunate leg break?
Here’s your Top 10 candidates for Anderson Silva’s next fight.
10. Chris Weidman
Remember when Anderson Silva was invincible, and Chris Weidman was thought to have been rushed into a title shot too soon?
While Weidman had his supporters, did any of us expect Weidman to win? Up to his first loss to Weidman in July 2013, the...

Jon Jones has almost cleaned out the light heavyweight division in the Ufc. He’s been the most dominant light heavyweight champ in Ufc history, but there are still a few compelling names out there that get us excited to see Jones step into the octagon.
Could he go up a weight class? Could someone come up to face him? Who is left at 205 pounds that we really want to see get in the cage with Jones?
Lets take a look at the top 5 candidates!
5. The Spider – Anderson Silva

If this list was being written a year or two ago, Silva would be the number one choice. My how things have changed. Silva’s since lost his belt, broken his leg, and is in the midst of rehab and not expected to make his way to the octagon til early 2015.

Andrei Arlovski’s surprise return to the Ufc at Ufc 174 in Vancouver gives us a reason to look at some of the big returns to the fold for various fighters over the years.
Mma is a brutal sport, to be sure, and it’s a cutthroat business, where you’re only as good as your last win.
It’s also a sport full of second, and third, chances. Arlovski is coming back. Former middleweight title challenger and Anderson Silva victim Patrick Cote has come back. The Ufc is more or less a revolving door of talent – but sometimes, second (and third) runs are successful – in the ring, at the box office, or on rare occasion, both.
Lets take a look at the top 10 Ufc returns!

There’s a silver lining in last Saturday’s main card loss of fighter Ross Pearson.
As the fallout from Ufc Fight Night 42 continues – Jason High being cut from the Ufc for shoving a ref, questions surrounding drug testing and judging, and a supposed fish hook by Bryan Caraway that was not caught on camera – the Ufc has stepped in to right at least one wrong.
According to a report on Ufc.com, the promotion will pay co-main event fighter Ross Pearson his win bonus, despite having lost the match.
Pearson lost a controversial decision to Diego Sanchez at the event, with judges seeing the bout 30-27 and 29-28 for Sanchez, while a single judge watched the same fight the rest of the world did, scoring a 30-27 for Pearson.

Ufc President Dana White has pocketed around $2 million in the space of the last two months from gambling at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter now reports that the casino is taking issue with White’s success and has limited him to playing a maximum of $25,000 to $5,000 per hand. The casino has stopped short of banning him, but feel they have no choice but to cut back the play they’ll take from the Ufc promoter. White has taken issue with this and is saying he will no longer gamble at the casino.
It isn’t too unusual to see big punters who consistently win get cut back. Hollywood actor Ben Affleck was recently banned from playing blackjack at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Casino. At the end of the day, casinos are in the business to make money,...

Most fighters would tell you that there is nothing more exhilarating than knocking someone out. Unless the fighter is a dedicated Jiu-Jitsu specialist, you’ll always hear a fighter get more excited about a knockout than submission. The added bonus to the knockout can be from being a heavy underdog or coming back from taking a significant amount of punishment. Those are the standards for a knockout to be considered as shocking. For it to be considered on a top ten list, the moment needs to be be spectacular.
The moment has to be considered at that present time, along with the state of both fighters’ careers. You can be a top three fighter in a particular division facing someone that may not be even in the top ten by most pundits. You lose focus for a moment and can be knocked out in less than a minute.

“If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be in peril.” – Sun Tzu
He’s considered by every Mma outlet, website, and expert to be the greatest fighter of all time. The numbers are astounding: 33-6-0, 20 Knockouts, 6 Submissions, and 7 Decisions. He went unbeaten for seven years and in that time amassed 14 successful defenses of the Ufc Middleweight Title. His counter striking and anticipation is the best anyone has ever seen. His knockouts occur in the blink of an eye, his Jiu-Jitsu is like entering a tangled web, and his movement is like water. He’s considered the closest thing to Bruce Lee in competition. He’s a ghost, a ninja, and a soon-to-be legend of the Mma world.
