It’s the battle of Ohio when the Cincinnati Bengals host the Cleveland Browns from Paycor Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 7 with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. Et on CBS. The Browns (11-5) have put together an impressive 4-1 run since quarterback Joe Flacco joined the roster, clinching a wildcard spot, and are now locked into a playoff position. The Bengals (8-8), meanwhile, were eliminated from the playoffs last week with their 25-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Jake Browning has been leading the team since Joe Burrow went down with a season-ending injury in Week 11 against the Ravens, and he’ll be looking to end the season on a high note. The National Football League is limping toward the finish line of its Covid-19 plagued regular season, and the worst-case scenarios are starting to emerge.
The latest will see the Denver Broncos forced to play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday with none of its three quarterbacks available for duty.
The Broncos’ three eligible quarterbacks, Drew Locks, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles, were ruled ineligible for the game because of Covid-19 close contacts, the team said Saturday night.
Update: Fox’s NFL coverage reported that the Broncos wanted Quality Control coach Rob Calabrese to suit up at Qb today. Calabrese reportedly has tested negative, knows the playbook inside and out, and took the snaps yesterday at practice. But the NFL wouldn’t allow it.
Although the Broncos did not name the Covid-19 contact the three came into contact with, it’s likely that Jeff Driskel, the reserve quarterback, was the guilty party.

Free agent Colin Kaepernick will not be a Detroit Lion after all. The outspoken quarterback, who hasn’t played for the NFL since 2016, was noticeably absent from the Lions’ newly announced two-man roster of recruits.
Despite the public endorsement of former Lions quarterback Cliff Avril, the team passed over Kaepernick. In a tweet during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the last-place 3-8-1 team said: “#Lions have signed Qb Kyle Sloter to the active roster from the Arizona Cardinals practice squad and placed Qb Jeff Driskel on Reserve/Injured. In addition, the Lions signed Qb Joe Callahan to the practice squad.”
The Lions was among the eight NFL teams present for Kaepernick’s recent workout in Atlanta, and with the Nfc East cellar dweller seeking a new quarterback following injuries to starter Matthew Stafford and backup Jeff Driskel, Detroit appeared to be the best bet for the controversial Kaepernick’s new home.
