"The deeper you search, the darker the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror film called Dear David, inspired by / based on the Twitter thread from 2017. "Going Viral is a Nightmare." It's based on the made-up story by artist Adam Ellis, about a boy who begins haunting him at his apartment. After responding to Internet trolls, a man becomes haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Ellis originally tweeted, "My apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he's trying to kill me." The thread then follows his encounters with this freaky haunting. Back in 2017, BuzzFeed writer Adam Ellis wrote out a ghost story (which he swears is completely true) on Twitter, and that story caught so much attention that there was soon talk of a movie adaptation. The project, titled Dear David, was first set up at New Line Cinema in 2018, then made its way over to Lionsgate. Now Lionsgate has announced that they’ll be giving Dear David a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on October 13th – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer, which you can watch in the embed above.
Anna and the Apocalypse‘s John McPhail having directed the film from a screenplay by Mike Van Waes. The cast of Dear David is headed up by Augustus Prew (Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series), Justin Long (Tusk), Rene Escobar Jr. (Heartland), Cameron Nicoll (Stolen by Their Father), and Andrea Bang (A Million Little Things...

Artist Adam Ellis has brought a lot of joy into our lives with comics featuring ridiculous topics like gender reveal parties that reveal the baby is going to be a lizard, "Squid Game" workers using dalgona candy to ask if a competitor has a crush on them, and the uncomfortable possibility that mermaids are fish heads with human bodies. With 1.7 million followers on Instagram, it's next to impossible that someone who uses the internet hasn't seen at least something drawn by Ellis. Yes, I'm including all of our weird Great Aunts who still post "Minions" memes about "wine o'clock"...

BuzzFeed is revamping its studio business by putting Cindy Vanegas-Gesuale, its current head of programming at BuzzFeed News, in charge of its TV and film operations, according to a company memo.
Vanegas-Gesuale replaces Lauren Dolgen, who last month left the company to join the Paramount Network. She’s expected to jumpstart its studio business, which has struggled to create projects that gain much traction since its launch in 2014.
BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti said in a staff memo the move comes as the publisher looks to make a mark on a “post-tv world” that’s increasingly dominated by streaming platforms.
