It is possible to be “scared of nothin’ and … scared to death” at the same, at least so says Luke Combs, who holds his own bellowing about the virtues of the Sooner State over a torrent of wind and rain in the video for his new song, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma.” The song comes off the upcoming soundtrack to Twisters, the 28-years-late sequel to Twister (and grammarians will note that Combs’ double-negative suggests there is love in Oklahoma, even if it’s a North Carolinian turned Nashvillian singing his heart out.

"Will you love him like we love him?" "Will you actually make time for us?" Republic Pictures / Paramount Movies has revealed the trailer for an indie film titled The Young Wife, the second feature film made by filmmaker Tayarisha Poe, after Selah and the Spades from Sundance 2019. This new one premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year, and it will finally be out on VOD at the end of this month to watch. On her wedding day, all that stands between a young woman named Celestina and marital bliss with her soon-to-be husband (played by the singer / songwriter Leon Bridges) is surviving the chaos and expectations of family and friends, each intensifying her spiraling panic. It's a story about marriage and all that comes with it, good and bad. Starring Kiersey Clemons as Celestina, with Kelly Marie Tran & Michaela Watkins. Is anyone really ready to get married, let alone commit?
Tayarisha Poe’s new film, “The Young Wife,” asks and answers the age-old question and more, with Kiersey Clemons starring as a young woman whose “non-wedding” to her elusive partner (Leon Bridges) brings out all the pressures of a traditional union. The chaos and expectations of family and friends heighten the not-quite-bride’s spiraling panic, and all seems poised to unravel just before the party meant to celebrate their love.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Judith Light, Kelly Marie Tran, Aya Cash, and Michaela Watkins co-star. Poe writes and directs her follow-up to 2019 Sundance debut “Selah and the Spades.”
“The Young Wife” premiered at SXSW 2023, where it was picked up by distributor Republic Pictures, a Paramount Pictures label. “I’m excited to share the work of our wonderful cast and crew,” Poe told IndieWire. “For me this is a story of color and chaos,...

Atlanta rapper Gunna achieved one of hip-hop’s most remarkable comebacks last year. After being ensnared in the Ysl Rico case and spending seven months behind bars, he got out on a plea deal and released A Gift and a Curse last June, buoyed by the infectious single “Fukumean,” which became his first Number One hit. He placed himself back on the same trajectory he was on in 2022, when his album DS4Ever debuted at Number One on the Billboard albums chart and marked his superstar ascension.

The buzz around this year’s Stagecoach Festival, kicking off Friday in Indio, California, is among the loudest in the country music fest’s 16-year history. Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

“A La Sala” serves as both an album title and statement of purpose for Khruangbin’s fourth studio album. As a child, bassist Laura Lee Ochoa used to scream the phrase, which means “To the room,” in order to rally her family together in the living room. Now, for Khruangbin, it signifies a return to a place close to where they began.
The band’s last two releases, 2020’s Texas Sun and 2022’s Ali, were collaborations with Leon Bridges and Vieux Farka Touré, respectively. Together with 2020’s Mordechai, which saw the predominantly instrumental band adding lyrics to their music to great effect, those projects found them evolving their sound and expanding their songcraft.
A La Sala, though, adopts a more back-to-basics approach, and from a production standpoint, it pays off. This is the cleanest that Khruangbin as a trio has ever sounded. Drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson serves as the backbone,...

Amid a very busy week of Oscar events, Sean Penn’s relief organization Core took a moment to shift the focus from toasting this year’s top films to raising money for ongoing crises around the world.

Bud Light is ready for a brand reboot, and it is betting on the Super Bowl to help deliver it.

Kacey Musgraves has released a studio version of the oft-covered Bob Marley and The Wailers classic “Three Little Birds.” Her rendition is for Reinaldo Marcus Green’s upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love.
Musgraves wisely didn’t try to replicate Marley’s roots reggae instrumentation here. Instead, she used his melodies and evergreen lyrics over a gentle acoustic guitar strum, some minimal drums, and a pedal steel. It’s all blanketed in heavy reverb, staying authentic to the comforting quality of the original song while making it her own.
“Three Little Birds” is just one of six Marley covers on an eponymous EP accompanying One Love. That’ll also feature Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, Bloody Civilian, Jessie Reyez, Wizkid, and Bob’s grandson Skip Marley. Stream Musgraves’ contribution and then see the full EP tracklist below.

As Miami Art Week and lead fair Art Basel Miami Beach wraps up its 21st year, by night there were fashion events, popups, concerts, dining debuts, cocktail soirees and philanthropy moments to match and exceed every by-day art buy. During the week-long festivities — in which the Magic City is taken over by celebrities, musicians, artists and collectors — star chefs, performers, credit card companies and fashion, liquor and watch brands were all heavily in the mix alongside dealers and collectors. For some, it was quite possible to spend an entire week traversing from the beach to Brickell and from Downtown to the Design District attending art-adjacent parties and never even seeing any of the fairs.
Here are the highlights of what happened around town when everyone was not looking at art.

“Please leave the grid,” the voice on the loudspeaker announced over and over again to the thick crowd that gathered at the starting lines for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov. 18. It was moments before the 10 p.m. Saturday evening debut of the 3.8 mile, 210 mph race that wound through the streets of Las Vegas, and famous onlookers were everywhere around the track. While the sport has always attracted the elite, on this occasion the invited guest list was befitting all the spectacle and hoopla surrounding the half-billion-dollar event. Justin Bieber, Cara Delevingne, Patrick Dempsey, Terry Crews, Kylie Minogue, Brad Pitt, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Lucas, David Beckham, Usain Bolt, Steve Aoki, Gordon Ramsay, Lupita Nyong’o, Lindsey Vonn, Shawn White Martin Garrix, Sir Rod Stewart, Anthony Mackie, Gayle King, Brooklyn Beckham and more milled about, from the garages, the grid and pit to the exclusive Wynn...

As New York Fashion Week has grown, so has the level of celebrations and showcases that happen far from the runways. You know, where you can find the actual fashion.

Avril Lavigne surprised country fans at CMA Fest 2023.
The Canadian pop punk princess joined Miranda Lambert onstage during her set and the duo performed not one, but two songs together.
“I’m out here to make more bada*s moments happen right now,” Lambert, 39, told the crowd at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium Friday night. “Will y’all welcome my new bestie, Ms. Avril Lavigne to the stage?”

The punk rock star, 38, then made her grande entrance, joining Lambert, whom she matched in black leather and pink fringe.
The duo performed a rendition of Lambert’s country rock single “Kerosene” before rocking out together as they transitioned into Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi”.
We expected Elle King for Miranda Lambert’s #CMAFest set, even figured Leon Bridges would show up (he did).

Miranda Lambert may have had the surprise guest of CMA Fest 2023 on Friday night as she brought out pop-punk hero Avril Lavigne during her performance at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
Lambert introduced the moment by saying she was about to “make more badass happen right now” and calling Lavigne her “new bestie.” The pair did a quick run-through of a verse and chorus of Lambert’s hard-charging early single “Kerosene” before the band quickly switched to the spiky riff from Lavigne’s 2002 smash “Sk8er Boi.” As fan-shot video of the performance shows,...
