First Reign was to be the showcase for this fledgling company as they put their flag in the sand and declare to the world that “some said they wasn’t gonna show up” but they are here. A 3-hour show with no less than 8 matches with roughly 26 workers including the likes of up-and-comers like Kidd Bandit, Harley Hudson, Joey Hayes and Whatculture’s own Simon Miller.

Vs. is an urban rites of passage drama set in the hostile and exciting UK rap battle scene.
That is the synopsis for Vs. on the IMDb but I’m here to tell you that this movie is so so much more than this. This is one of the most powerful, thought provoking, superbly acted, respectfully told and emotionally driven movies I personally have had the pleasure of seeing in quite some time. I will get into the plot and subject matter now in a minute, but up front I would like to admit that this movie spoke to my heart and broke through a wall I didn’t think needed broken through. Yes, it’s a low...

Nothing portrays ‘roast’ better than Ed Lilly’s directorial debut, Vs. A feature that could give the TV show ‘The Comedy Central Roast’ a run for its money. The Screen Star of Tomorrow 2017 has given a voice to the underprivileged British youth who may well feel abandoned by our money and fame orientated society. Keeping the subject real, forcing the issue with empathy and slick precision makes for a compelling watch.
Connor Swindells, giving a knock-out performance, plays Adam, full of rage and resentment at having been in foster care since the age of 5. He has been moved from one family to another for most of his life until he finally lands back in a damp and murky Southend after being placed with his last foster home before coming-of-age. While mooching around the seaside town, on the hunt for a blunt (aka marijuana) he has a chance meeting with the...

Exclusive: One of the most obvious but routinely encountered hazards for a growing distributor is over-reach: buying or marketing beyond your means. So far, that’s a pitfall UK outfit Altitude Films has avoided with aplomb.
Set up by former Optimum Releasing founder Will Clarke in 2012, the carefully managed integrated firm, comprising distribution, sales and production, is coming off its biggest year to date, despite the challenging UK landscape. Four movies crossed $1M for the distribution arm in 2017: Moonlight (which took a company record $6M), Loving Vincent ($1.4M), The Florida Project ($1.3M) and Lady Macbeth (1.1M). Six of the company’s top ten movies have been released in the last 12 months.
Much of the growing distribution slate is made up of rising UK talent (Michael Pearce’s Toronto drama Beast is released in around 70 screens this weekend), festival favorites and commercially-minded documentaries...
