“The Lunchbox” casting director and producer Seher Aly Latif died in Mumbai on Monday of a renal failure. She was in her early 40s.
Latif was one of the most sought-after casting directors for international projects set in India or with a significant India component. Her casting director credits include “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and its sequel “Million Dollar Arm,” as well as recent Bollywood films such as “Shakuntala Devi” and “Durgamati: The Myth.”
Latif’s credits for casting in India include “Eat Pray Love,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “McMafia,” “Sense8,” “Furious 7” and “The Hundred-Foot Journey.”
Along with her associate Shivani Saran, Latif founded Mutant Films in 2016. The company produced Netflix film “Maska,” Netflix series “Bhaag Beanie Bhaag” and also co-produced the sports drama “Gold,” starring Akshay Kumar.

Netflix has ordered five new originals out of India with Hollywood producers including Blumhouse and Chernin Entertainment getting in on the action.
The Svod service is doubling down on its scripted drive in the region – following the success of titles such as Delhi Crime and Selection Day.
Over the next twelve months, it will launch Bombay Begums, Mai, Betaal, Messy and Masaba Masaba.
Bombay Begums, executive produced by Chernin Entertainment and Endemol Shine India, is a story set in contemporary urban India that sees five women, across generations, wrestle with desire, ethics, personal crises and vulnerabilities to own their ambition. As glass ceilings are shattered and hearts are broken, difficult choices have to be made. And as each woman strives to find her own truth, they find in each other an unexpected understanding and the sliver of a bond. It was created, written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava.

Netflix has commissioned ten new original films in India.
The streaming giant will be working with big local directors and producers including Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur) and Ronnie Screwvala (Chennai Express). Genres of the new commissions include drama, sci-fi, thriller, horror, comedy and romance. Scroll down for the list of projects.
