No genre knows how to express emotions quite like the classic rock power ballad. Case in point: Reo Speedwagon’s “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” A member of the band explained why he wrote it in the first place. Notably, a famous kids’ movie made the song prominent again.
Reo Speedwagon’s ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ is about multiple people
“Can’t Fight This Feeling” was written and co-produced by Reo Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin. During a 2017 interview with Songfacts, he was asked if “Can’t Fight This Feeling” was about a specific individual. He said the tune was about an amalgamation of people. Like many of Cronin’s songs, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” was inspired by something that made him have an emotional reaction.
“But really, what the song is about was about my inability to have the courage to express myself,” Cronin said. “I was brought up in an Irish-Catholic family,...

Planet Earth III, the BBC nature series helmed by Sir David Attenborough, was created to reflect the increasing change occurring within the world’s natural habitats. The eight-episode series explores oceans, deserts, grasslands, coasts, and more, where nature itself provides the type of soundtrack people listen to while drifting off to sleep. But it also explores humans while delving into the conservation champions fighting to save the planet while we still can — and there’s music for that, too. On a new record titled “Mother Nature,” British singer and songwriter...

Maddie Hasson and Genesis Rodriguez have signed on to star in “Fixation,” a female-driven psychological thriller from director Mercedes Bryce Morgan.
Hasson stars as Dora, a young woman at the center of an unusual murder trial. As the film progresses, Dora is subjected to a psychiatric evaluation, and as the tests become more personal — and frightening — she begins to question the true motives of her doctor and is forced to live through the recreations of her past.
The description of the project explains that the story is intended to be an exploration of how women are gaslit by men in positions of power and boasts a predominantly female, LGBTQ and Bipoc crew, both in front of and behind the camera, led by Morgan — a queer, Latina filmmaker.
Best known for directing “Stargate Origins,” the Facebook series “Five Points” and music videos like Marshmello and Bastille’s “Happier,” Morgan makes her...

Apple CEO Tim Cook made a surprise appearance on BBC’s “Big Night In” fundraiser on Thursday to reveal the company is waiving fees on the U.K. public broadcaster’s charity single “Times Like These.”
Speaking remotely from his home, Cook said the tech giant is dismissing all royalties on the single, which is a cover of the Foo Fighters song performed by artists including Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, Hailee Steinfeld, Bastille and Jess Glynne.
“We’re also making a significant donation of our own to ‘The Big Night In’ and helping our customers across the U.K. join in by contributing from their devices,” said Cook.
“We’re deeply inspired not only by the strength and good humor of the British people, but also your empathy for one another and the neighbors beyond your shores,” Cook continued. “From our Apple family to yours, thank you for your generosity and your courage.

Even Prince William can’t escape the sensation of Netflix docuseries “Tiger King.”
The British royal appeared in a two-minute sketch on BBC’s “Big Night In” fundraising special Thursday evening, where he was in a Zoom call with actor Stephen Fry, playing his iconic “Blackadder” character, Lord Melchett.
Prince William at one point asked, “Have you seen anything good on TV? It’s hell without (soap) ‘EastEnders,'” to which Fry’s Melchett responded, “They told me ‘Tiger King’ is rather good.”
The royal scoffed, “Yes, I tend to avoid shows about royalty.”
Prompted by Melchett to join his family for Thursday night’s nationwide ‘Clap for Our Carers’ event, a self-deprecating Prince William joked, “On my way. Let me just see if I can find my socks, and my shoes — and my trousers.”

Marshmello is facing a lawsuit from a fellow Edm producer, Russian DJ Arty, over alleged similarities between their respective songs. In a complaint filed Monday in California federal court, Arty (Artem Stoliarov) accuses the writers of “Happier,” Marshmello’s hit collaboration with Bastille, of “willfully copying” his remix of OneRepublic’s “I Lived.”
The complaint is unique given its focus on a remix. Arty specifically targets the songwriters — Marshmello (Christopher Comstock), Bastille frontman Daniel Campbell Smith and producer Steve Mac — for allegedly borrowing the “original composition elements” of the revamped track “note for note,...

Marshmello recruits Scottish indie rockers Chvrches for the producer’s latest single “Here With Me,” which also had a lyric video dropped Friday. Keeping with the upbeat sound of the DJ’s 2018 smash “Happier” with Bastille, Marshmello again employs acoustic guitars and Edm beats to set the stage for Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry’s standout vocals.

On Saturday, February 2nd, a made-up DJ played to more than 10 million made-up characters in a made-up world. And the real-life music industry gasped in unison.
The fictional DJ has a name: Marshmello. No one truly knows his identity, thanks to his white bucket helmet with an unambiguous painted smile and crisscross eyes — although increasingly voluminous online scuttlebutt suggests the man under the plastic cranium is Chris Comstock, a 26-year-old producer hailing from Philadelphia.

The 2018 edition of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve turned into a rain-soaked spectacle for performers Christina Aguilera, New Kids on the Block, Dan + Shay and Bastille, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the artists, waterlogged hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy, or the crowd of over 1 million revelers who crammed into New York’s Times Square for hours on Monday.
Aguilera, clad in a large, belted, snow-white ball gown and towering thigh-high boots, looked regal as she nailed a long medley of her hits “Genie in a Bottle,” “Come on Over, “’Aint No Other Man, “Can’t Hold Us Down” and “Fighter” while a steady rain poured down — she thanked the crowd for braving the elements and, after the performance, joked that her daughter’s middle name is Rain, so she felt right at home.

New Year’s Eve will be warmer and wetter than last year’s festivities in New York City, but hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy are prepared for all conditions as they get ready to take center stage in Times Square. ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” airs on Dec. 31 live starting at 8 p.m. east coast time.
“The theme last year was ‘Frozen,’ the theme this year is a little more mild, but wet,” Seacrest tells Variety. “So we will be thinking about precipitation and survival throughout the course of the night as we always do.”

“I’m so f*cking grateful for my ex,” sings Ariana Grande on her new single “Thank U, Next,” which was released with no prior announcement on November 3. And its record-breaking debut finally brought her her first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after multiple visits to the top 10 with her past songs. It held on to the number-one slot in its second week, which gives her yet another reason to be “f*cking grateful.” Watch the video above to see what else made the top 10 this week.

The Voice has declared its season 13 winner!
Chloe Kohanski took home the top prize during Tuesday night's live results show finale. The 23-year-old rocker from Tennessee was on Team Blake, and it's no surprise that she looked visibly excited and a tiny bit surprised when she was declared the champ.
Tyler Golden/NBC
She also got a massive hug from her coach, Blake Shelton, as confetti fell. The 41-year-old country crooner -- and the only coach besides Adam Levine to be on the show all 13 seasons -- is now a six-time coaching champ.
Trae Patton/NBC
As if she needed to prove she was a total rockstar, Chloe's finale performance was "White Wedding" alongside Billy Idol himself.
Tyler Golden/NBC
One of the music competition's youngest contestants left in the competition, Addison Agen (Team Adam), was the runner-up, while Brooke Simpson (Team Miley) came in third and Red Marlow (Team Blake) came in fourth.

Congratulations are in order! The Voice has crowned its newest winner, Chloe Kohanski! The 23 year-old rocker from Nashville was on Team Blake, meaning that not only is Blake Shelton People's reigning Sexiest Man Alive, but he's also the reigning Voice champ. Apparently, that man can do anything. Kohanski impressed throughout the season, and particularly killed it during a duet with Billy Idol during tonight's finale, which also included performances from Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Sia, Charlie Puth, N.E.R.D., and Chris Blue, as well as collabs with Bastille, Vince Gill, Jessie J, Norah Jones and Bebe Rexha. Congratulations, Chloe Kohanski!
The fan favorite contestant of season 13 — known for her unique sound and style — was crowned the winner of The Voice on Tuesday.
Kohanski’s win marks the sixth victory for veteran coach and People’s Sexiest Man Alive Blake Shelton — making him the top mentor with a record-breaking number of wins.
The star-studded evening featured performances by Bastille, Vince Gill, Jessie J, Norah Jones, Bebe Rexha, Sia and last year’s Voice winner Chris Blue. Kohanski was paired up with one of her idols, Billy Idol, to perform “White Wedding,” and it couldn’t have been a better match.

Remember how, as Season 12 of The Voice drew to a close, there was actual suspense about whether Chris Blue or Lauren Duski would be named the winner? Season 13 hasn’t been like that. For what seems like ever, Chloe Kohanski has dominated in both iTunes sales and our weekly TVLine polls. So Tuesday’s results show was really just a long, long wait to hear her victory announced. Unless, that is, we were in for one heck of an upset. (Spoiler alert: We weren’t.) And I know it’s often seemed like I have it in for Chloe; I really don’t.

Kids are going back to school, and there’s less than a month left until the first day of Fall, but it’s not too late to declare 2015’s song of the summer. Andy Grammer — the upbeat guy who brought you “Honey, I’m Good” — dropped a single today that sounds like song of the summer material. “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)” is his catchy, danceable new tune with a funk vibe to it. It’s a song that celebrates Grammer’s recent successes. (“Honey I’m Good,” from Grammer’s second LP, became the 31-year-old’s highest charting single when it peaked at no. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.) “Good To Be Alive” opens with Grammer recalling his years trying to break out in the music biz: “I’ve been grinding so long, been trying this s—t for years.” (Grammer got his start busking on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade,...

After nearly 22 years as the host of CBS's Late Show, David Letterman has chatted up mostly everyone. Now the attention he's paid to stars of stage, screen and song is being returned to him in a big way.
Just this past week, some of his most famous buddies – including Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Eddie Vedder – have stopped by to say goodbye to the late-night legend.
More overwhelming, though, are the number of former guests (Letterman has, after all, clocked more than 6,000 broadcasts in his 33 years as a late-night host) who have taken to social media to say their goodbyes.

"Hozier who?" That was likely the question on most Saturday Night Live viewers' minds when the Irish singer was first revealed as the October 12th musical guest for Bill Hader's return episode. However, the rising soul singer delivered a rousing performance that ensured people don't forget his name anytime soon. Hozier played a pair of tracks off his self-titled LP, his hit "Take Me to Church" and the harrowing "Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene."

The surfboards (or serfborts, if you’re Beyoncé) were out at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards, where the casts of The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, and Pretty Little Liars took home plenty of the trademark awards.
Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland and Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey hosted the show, which featured appearances by Taylor Swift, 5 Seconds of Summer, and… Donald Sutherland? (The 79-year-old actor won Choice Movie Villain for his role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and proceeded to throw berries into the audience while accepting the award.)

The Fault In Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley dominated the 2014 Teen Choice Awards, taking home seven surfboards, and Selena Gomez was awarded the Ultimate Choice Award.
Maid In Manhattan Reunion
Tyler Posey and Sarah Hyland co-hosted this year’s teen-approved award show, and, though neither took home any surfboards of their own, they did provide the audience with some memorable moments. Posey, in particular, had a fun time onstage when he reunited with his Maid in Manhattan co-star Jennifer Lopez, who played his mother in the film 12 years ago. Posey greeted his on-screen mom onstage and jokingly auditioned to be her backup dancer. “If I say yes, will you stop?” Lopez responded. After Posey ran off stage, Lopez seemed flustered for a moment, exclaiming, “He’s so big!”
Lopez later posted a photo of the two backstage on Instagram, writing, “Aw, look at Ty all grown up.”

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss: For the seventh week in a row, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” tops the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, all the songs in the top 7 remain the same as last week. In case you haven’t cemented them to memory: Following “Happy,” John Legend’s “All of Me” is No. 2, Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” featuring Juicy J, is No. 3, Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” featuring 2 Chainz, is No. 4, Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go,” from “Frozen,” is No. 5. Bastille’s “Pompeii” holds at No. 6 and Lorde’s “Team” remains at No. 7. Even though there’s a little movement in positions 8-10, it’s basically deck chairs rearranging: OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” flips places with Aloe Blacc’s “The Man,” as “Stars”moves up one to No. 8 and “Man” drops one spot to No. 9. Holding at No. 10 is DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What.

Jonah Hill hosted "Saturday Night Live" for the third time on Jan. 25, and he was joined by not only his "Wolf of Wall Street" co-star Leonardo DiCaprio (making every female in the country extremely jealous when they re-created an iconic "Titanic" scene) but he was also reunited with his "Superbad" co-star and Bff Michael Cera for a hilarious and meta Spike Jonze parody.

If you happened to tune in to SNL after Jonah Hill’s monologue, you probably thought it was an uneven mix of sketches with a laugh here and there. If you viewed the show in its entirety like I did, your ride started off with a Bang and slowly lost steam as the episode went along, but not without hitting a few other highs (and lows) along the way. Hill was returning for his third time in the host’s seat (or the Benihana seat), a strong addition to his Actor’s Stat Card, which also now reads, “two-time Academy Award nominee.

Jonah Hill returned to Studio 8H last night (with musical guest Bastille) to host Saturday Night Live for the third time. Last time, jokes were made at his expense in regards to how his Oscar nomination had changed him. This time, his Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio stepped in during his monologue to put Hill in line and to recreate DiCaprio’s most famous cinematic moment.
Jonah Hill is one of the few actors who has made the transition from film funny guy to serious respected actor. The only question is, “Can he act humble in the press about it?” Hill seemed to be in on the joke that he can’t stop name-dropping Marty Scorsese and Brad Pitt, so it was a fun surprise to see Leonardo DiCaprio crash his self-aggrandizing monologue to put him in his place. Jonah Hill hosted this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, which also featured cameos by his Wolf of Wall Street costar Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Cera, who had joined him in cult comedy Superbad.
Jonah Hill Monologue
Hill’s opening monologue addressed the rumors that Hill – who made a name for himself in outrageous comedies – has become obnoxiously big-headed in light of his recent critical successes. After he implies that he’s a more compelling actor that DiCaprio, DiCaprio himself walked out onto the stage to great applause from the audience.
"Jonah, I knew this was going to happen if you got nominated. But you don't have to pretend anymore. You're a real actor now. You should be humble, you should be gracious," DiCaprio lectured. Hill conceded, with his head down, “I was like, acting like a big shot.”
Benihana
In the first skit after the opening monologue, Hill reprised the 6-year-old Adam Grossman character.

No disrespect to Jonah Hill, but on some level, his upcoming SNL hat trick raises just one question: Hill is about to host Saturday Night Live for the third time. Yet his Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio hasn’t hosted even once? Even worse, Leo’s never stopped by Studio 8H for so much as a cameo? This is so outrageous I’m starting to feel short of breath. Quick, somebody grab me a quaalude!
Ahhh, there we go. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes — Jonah Hill’s back on SNL this weekend, which means a few things.

May as well stick to what works. Jonah Hill, who caused quite a stir when he revealed that he pocketed the SAG minimum for his now Oscar-nominated performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, brought some of his bad-boy, Scorsese-film ways with him to the Saturday Night Live set this week. Or he at least brought them to these fun new promos touting his hosting gig, with musical guest Bastille. Jonah Hill is back hosting "Saturday Night Live" for the third time this weekend -- hat trick! -- but cast member Taran Killam has to warn Hill that this isn't going to be like his movie, "The Wolf of Wall Street." Hill can't drop F-bombs during the show on Saturday (Jan. 25) with musical guest Bastille.
So what does Hill decide to do? Get out all his F-bombs during his promos, of course. So how many times can he drop a bleep-worthy curse word in one sitting? The answer might surprise you.
