Og YouTubers Joslyn Davis and Lily Marston -- perhaps best known as the faces of Clevver, a digital lifestyle brand that clocked 10 million subscribers and 9 billion lifetime views -- are branching out with their own entrepreneurial endeavor.
Together, Davis and Marston -- along with Clevver co-founder Jorge Maldonado, who launched the company out of his garage roughly a decade ago -- have established Shared Media. The venture arrives after Clevver’s parent company, Defy Media, shuttered last fall under highly controversial circumstances. Subsequently, Clevver was acquired by Hearst Magazines.
Female-led Shared Media comprises two YouTube channels, and will also aim to incubate emerging with a mentorship culture that stands in stark contrast to the Defy ethos, Davis and Marston say. The channels are as follows: Shared Channel is a collab channel for Davis and Marston (who will continue to operate their individual channels outside of Shared’s auspices), and Shared News,...

Good news for Clevver fans. Two of the beloved lifestyle brand’s YouTube channels are relaunching imminently with a bunch of familiar faces: Clevver News and Clevver Style. Clevver was one of the biggest potential casualties of the Defy Media shutdown in November (in addition to brother brand Smosh), when the digital network suddenly went out of business, leaving employees and creators in the lurch.
Clevver, which was subsequently acquired by Hearst, is bringing back Clevver Style’s hosting trio -- Lily Marston, Joslyn Davis, and Erin Robinson -- with videos slated to return at the end of the month, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Clevver News -- a pop culture news broadcast -- returned to YouTube on Friday (below) with two familiar Clevver personalities, Emile Ennis Jr. and Sussan Mourad, who took on new roles as co-hosts.

Hearst Magazines is readying the re-launch of Clevver -- the digital brand it acquired last month following the shutdown of former parent company, Defy Media, which abruptly went out of business in November under controversial circumstances.
Hearst, which is based in New York, has opened a 20,000-square-foot Los Angeles production studio for Clevver ahead of its comeback in two weeks, Variety reports. Video content for other Hearst titles like Cosmopolitan and Elle will also be produced in the new studio -- which is located at the Santa Monica Airport -- as will original Hearst TV series like The CW’s Ready, Set, Pet and digital programming including This Is How I Made It.
Additionally, Hearst has rehired key Clevver staffers to oversee forthcoming productions -- including Clevver Style senior creative director Jill Irvin Burriss -- though it declined to confirm to Variety which onscreen personalities will return. Prior to Defy’s demise,...

Two of Defy Media’s key digital properties are finding new homes in the wake of the company’s shutdown in November that left all of its employees suddenly jobless and has also resulted in a liquidation dispute whereby 50 channels formerly signed to the Defy multi-channel network allege that they are owed $1.7 million in unpaid AdSense.
But now, there have been some encouraging developments for Defy's lifestyle and pop culture-leaning Clevver brand as well as its comedy stalwart Smosh. Clevver, which counts 15 million followers across all of its social channels, has been purchased by Hearst Magazines for an undisclosed sum. "This investment underscores our commitment to premium video,” a spokesperson for the publisher told The Hollywood Reporter, “that super-serves our audience of young women and will further accelerate our growth on YouTube and other digital video platforms."

Clevver, the Defy Media-owned digital brand focused on beauty and lifestyle content, is doubling down on its Facebook Watch output with the launch of two new shows this week -- both in the home makeover space.
Today, Clevver will unveil Marketplace Makeover, hosted by digital personality Loryn Powell. The 12-episode series, rolling out weekly, will follow Clevver creators as they attempt to Diy strange creations using household items found on the Facebook Marketplace -- such as a mobile coffee complex and a doggie duplex -- and then gift them to fellow influencers. Abrams Artists has more female agents in digital media than any of its competitors, it says -- a total of seven across both coasts. And this VidCon, the first time that the massive convention is being hosted under the auspices of new proprietor Viacom, Abrams’ self-described 'Quad Squad' was out in full force.
Vice president Jade Sherman, founding department member Amanda Marzolf, and agents Melissa DeMarco and Marienor Madrilejo have dubbed themselves the Quad Squad because they are staying together in a quad hotel suite this year: a central location to host client meetings as well as to start and end the day as a team. Additionally, four other Abrams agents are in attendance at VidCon from the firm’s New York and Los Angeles offices.
Abrams clients at VidCon include: Andrea Brooks, who just unveiled her very own cosmetics line; Clevver executive producer and host Joslyn Davis; Roi ‘Guava Juice’ Fabito,...

At 8 Pm Et/Pt on September 21st, the 33rd season of the CBS reality series Survivor will begin. This year’s competition carries the subtitle Millennials vs. Gen X, and it will pit contestants from two neighboring generations against one another. For fans of YouTube, there will be a familiar face in the Millennial camp. Mari Takahashi, known for her videos on the Smosh Games channel, will attempt to outlast her fellow competitors to earn the title of Sole Survivor.
As Takahashi tells Tubefilter, she was introduced to the CBS team behind Survivor after two fellow YouTube stars, Joslyn Davis and Erin Ward, were contestants on another CBS reality series, The Amazing Race. Davis and Ward are friends of Takahashi’s (and fellow Defy Media partners), which led to her selection for the new Survivor season.
To prepare for her Survivor role, Takasashi “binge-watched” all of the show’s previous seasons.
