The Voice UK kicked off its all-important battles with a two-hour spectacular tonight, as 24 acts got paired up for 12 bouts in the ring. As Sir Tom Jones pointed out, "no biting" and "no kicking" was allowed - instead it was (surprise!) all about the voice.
With each coach being granted two steals this series, it was all to play for, all bets were off and it was all going down to the wire. Right, that's enough sporting phrases - let's get the ball rolling! (Sorry.)
Battle #1: Joyful Soundz vs Newtion Matthews
Team: Will
Song: 'Shout' - The Isley Brothers
What happened in rehearsals? This is one of the funniest battle rehearsals we have ever seen, ever. Will was babbling about how 'Shout' is one of his favourite songs "on the entire planet' ("Even if I was to take a spaceship out of space it would still be my favourite...

The Voice UK battles begin this weekend and it's fair to say a fair few viewers don't like them. Even Ricky Wilson told us the other day: "Historically after the blinds it's not [considered] the most exciting time on the show, because everyone likes the button-pushing."
But every time the battles come around, we can't help but flash back to series two, when Matt Henry and Jordan Lee Davies treated us to their 'unique' take on 'Do I Do' by the one and only Stevie Wonder. If this isn't proof that the battles can be incredible, we don't know what is. Here are some gifs to show just why their performance was so endlessly watchable:
1. Jordan's shoulder wiggles.
2. Matt Henry's hip action.
3. How much Danny O'Donoghue was enjoying Jordan's sass.
4. This 'feed the rope' move Matt Henry did when he wasn't quite sure how to fill the time.
5. This spectacular slide.

1. Leah's 'I Will Survive'
It's an obvious pick, but it's obvious for a reason. Leah McFall's first live show performance took The Voice to the top end of the charts for the first time, overcoming the show's credibility issues with her breathtaking and unique vocals.
2. Mike's audition
Because The Voice UK refuses to show rubbish singers, the Blind Audition twist rarely shocks viewers. If a singer doesn't look conventional or is overweight, we're never surprised when they turn out to have angelic vocals. But Mike Ward was different. It wasn't that we didn't think he'd be able to sing. We just didn't think he'd be able to sing like that. His lush country tones provided the biggest shock of the series.
3. Cleo's exit
If The Voice UK had learned its lessons from series one, Cleo Higgins would still be on the show. Her semi-final performance was thunderous and powerful,...

The Voice UK coach will.i.am makes a drastic decision in this week's Battle Rounds that he admits may "hurt [him] in the future", Digital Spy can reveal.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman makes the unorthodox move of deliberately eliminating the strongest performer out of his acts Matt Henry and Jordan Lee Davies in the hope that one of his fellow judges - Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue - will use the new 'steal' twist to save the loser as well.
will.i.am states that his other recruits will "freak out" at his decision, and admits that if the axed contestant is saved by another coach they could even "take out members of [his] team".
However, the 'Scream & Shout' singer explains that he is willing to take that risk as keeping both acts would be the "smartest decision for the entire show".
will.i.am's plan could still backfire,...
