Die Hard is an unquestioned action masterpiece. Thanks to revelatory performances by both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman, plus John McTiernan’s assured direction, Die Hard still has the power to awe and entertain even decades after its release. Few can say the same about the sequels, but what about the Die Hard prequel, The Detective?
Oh, you’ve never heard of a Die Hard prequel? Well, that could be because the 1968 Frank Sinatra vehicle The Detective is based on the 1966 novel by the same name, written by Roderick Thorp. And in 1979, Thorp published a sequel to The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which criminals led by a man called Gruber take control of a Los Angeles high-rise during a company party. Gruber even holds hostage the family member of a hero cop who must go rogue upstairs if he is going to thwart the terrorists. Also it’s Christmas time.

On the NBC comedy Cheers, George Wendt often stole the show as Norm. Norm was Cheers’ most loyal regular. Every episode when he entered the whole bar shouted his name, and he had a different one liner for every entrance. Cheers ended in 1993 after 11 seasons and Wendt has been busy ever since.

If you’re looking for Wendt today, Showbiz Cheat Sheet is here to help. Here’s what Wendt has been up to.
How George Wendt got the role of Norm on ‘Cheers’
After some small roles in films like Bronco Billy and My Bodyguard, and a deleted scene from Somewhere in Time, Wendt moved to Los Angeles in 1980. He got some solid TV appearances including episodes of Hart to Hart, Soap, Alice, and Taxi. It was Taxi that really made an impression, as writers Glen and Les Charles...

The confused, frightened, complying face of a young black boy as two Metropolitan police stop, search, and humiliate him on the street: This is one of the first things we see in Red, White, and Blue, the third in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe pentalogy, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It’s an image that grows even more charged in hindsight, a few scenes (spanning years) later, when the boy’s father — who’d swooped in to save him in that earlier encounter — is badly beaten by the police...

Here comes Santa Hans, here comes Santa Hans, right toward Santa McClane! With serious apologies to Gene Autry, we check in on what some call the Ultimate Christmas Movie, Die Hard, which is celebrating 30 years of spreading holiday cheer, and spatter.
Now Fox has gone and done a holiday-themed recut of the trailer for the film that made movie stars of Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman — the former as the anything-goes cop who foils a Christmas Eve heist by the latter and his evil minions. Check it out above.
It’s a promo for a new “Christmas Edition” Blu-ray and digital release for the film that continues to stir debate about whether it’s realy a “Christmas movie.” You’re worried about politics or religion being discussed at your family’s dinner table this year? Humbug! Just beware of Grandpa challenging Uncle Fred on whether John McTiernan’s action classic...

Bruce Willis may be a Hollywood icon, but he had a lot to prove on the set of his first major blockbuster, Die Hard.
The actor was “very committed to doing the part” of New York City police officer John McClane in the 1988 film — portraying a cop who becomes trapped inside of a tower overtaken by terrorists.
The classic action film, which celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 20, launched Willis into superstardom.
“Whenever he was on set he was very into the character so I didn’t really bother him,” his Die Hard costar Reginald VelJohnson told People at an...

“Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.”
Die Hard Screens This Saturday Night, December 23rd, at Midnight at The Hi-Pointe Theater ( 1005 McCausland Ave., St. Louis, Mo 63117). Admission is only $5.
Die Hard (1988) is one of the best and most iconic action films from Hollywood. Bruce Willis starred as NYPD Officer John McClane, who tries to save his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and several of her co-workers and friends after being taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman )and his henchmen during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.
Willis’ witty and deadpan delivery personality, coupled with his never-say-die attitude and relentless attacks on the villains made him a force to be reckoned with, giving us a tough yet comedic performance. Most of Die Hard takes place inside the Nakatomi Plaza, where you will find all the heart-pounding action as Gruber terrorizes his hostages and...

The late Alan Rickman gave Hollywood action cinema arguably its finest villain ever in the shape of Die Hard's Hans Gruber...
At Christmas last year, I sat down to do what so many people do after they’ve finished the shopping, cooking, and screaming that goes with the holiday season: kick back and watch my favorite Christmas movie. I hadn't seen Die Hard in a few years, and for a brief moment, as the old 20th Century Fox logo appeared, I worried that it wouldn't stand up. I’d seen it so many times, maybe this would be the time where it would not be able to work its magic like it had all those years ago when I first saw it on TV.
In the end, the old excitement came flooding back. Re-watching Die Hard always feels like revisiting an old friend. You know all...
