Tyler Michael James is a filmmaker from the Pacific Northwest known for crafting thought-provoking, suspenseful narratives. His debut feature film, Low Life, premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in 2022 and was acquired by XYZ Films. The film follows two YouTubers attempting to expose a child predator, earning praise from The New York Times, which called it "a suspenseful thriller about the making of a modern predator and the perils of internet notoriety."
James began his career in Los Angeles as a VFX artist, contributing to music videos and short-form content. He later joined CoSA VFX, where he worked on shows like Gotham, Westworld, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., eventually rising to the role of Production Coordinator. He went on to collaborate with the VFX teams at Paramount, Disney, Netflix, and Amazon Studios, contributing to series such as The Peripheral, Fallout, and Citadel. He signed with the Independent Artist Group for representation as a VFX Producer in 2023.
In 2016, Tyler founded Ad Opus, an independent film production company based in Los Angeles. His early work in short films and music videos garnered multiple awards, including the Audience Award at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, Best Visual Effects at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, and Best Experimental Short at the CineYouth Film Festival.
