When it comes to environmental storytelling, there’s several different routes a project can take. Some have opted for scaring an audience into action (like Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up) while others have tried to Trojan horse climate messages into more uplifting fare, or take a more by-the-numbers documentary approach.
For Extrapolations, Apple TV+’s new anthology drama following eight different stories of people’s lives upended by climate change, creator Scott Z. Burns is taking inspiration from another future-looking anthology series, as star Kit Harington recalled how “Scott always described this to me as a kind of Black Mirror of a climate change show, and I think it falls in that.”
“There are thriller elements to it, there are horror elements to it and it should scare you, and it will scare you, but it’s also really thought-provoking,” Harington told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday.

Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for Extrapolations, an eight-episode sci-fi series that features an absolutely stacked cast, including Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, Kit Harington, Tobey Maguire, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, and many more.
Now, what is the series all about? Extrapolations comes to us from writer, director, and executive producer Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) as it introduces a near future world in which the chaotic effects of climate change have become embedded into our everyday lives. “Eight interwoven stories about love, work, faith and family from across the globe will explore the intimate, life-altering choices that must be made when the planet is changing faster than the population,” reads the official description. “Every story is different, but the fight for our future is universal. After watching the trailer for Apple TV+’s Extrapolations it’s obvious that Timothée Chalamet has a legitimate grievance. (Watch his Apple TV+ “Call Me” ad on YouTube.) Apple TV+ has attracted pretty much every big-name actor yet Chalamet still hasn’t received an invitation. Just in Extrapolations alone, they’ve got Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, Diane Lane, Tobey Maguire, Forest Whitaker, and dozens more. What gives, Apple TV+?
The cast of the eight-episode limited series also includes Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer, Keri Russell, Adarsh Gourav, Indira Varma, and Marion Cotillard. Plus, Heather Graham, Tahar Rahim, Neska Rose, Judd Hirsch, Cherry Jones, Michael Gandolfini, Hari Nef, Eiza González, Ben Harper, Murray Bartlett, and MaameYaa Boafo star.
Extrapolations will premiere on March 17, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes. Additional episodes will arrive on Fridays leading up to the April 21st finale.

It's not something any of us want to confront, but thanks to Apple TV+, climate change is at the forefront of a new prestige drama called "Extrapolations" — and the streamer has released the series' first trailer.
In the sneak peek, we are introduced to a world where some of our woes are solved — the trailer asserts that cancer has been cured — but others are only just beginning. Earth is now ravaged by the effects of climate change, and it is up to those of us left to try to find a way forward for human survival.
The series was written and directed by Scott Z. Burns (the writer of "Contagion" and director of "The Report"), and will unfold over an eight-episode season of interconnected stories. Its official synopsis reads:

"What makes you think the world is going to get better??" Apple has revealed an official trailer for a new near-future series called Extrapolations, from writer Scott Z. Burns. I wouldn't call this sci-fi, because it's much more sci-real, a vitally important and scary look at what's going to happen when climate change really takes over. The series features "unanticipated stories of how the upcoming changes to our planet will affect love, faith, work and family on a personal and human scale." It's written by and showrun by the same guy who wrote the scripts for The Informant, Contagion, Side Effects, The Mercy, and The Laundromat, so he definitely knows what he's talking about here. "Are we brave enough to become the solution to our own undoing before it’s too late?" The series features a massive ensemble cast: Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Diane Lane,...

Do not adjust your monitors, and listen closely to Tony Hale‘s mellifluous voice as he guides you through a meditation that will leave you feeling light as a feather and do wonders for your self-esteem. I’m talking about an exclusive clip for episode 6 of The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2, featuring Hale’s Dr. Curtain and Marta Kessler’s Constance Contraire.
In The Mysterious Benedict Society exclusive clip, Constance tunes in to a PSA hosted by Dr. Curtain, urging viewers to relax and give themselves over to the power of positive thinking. While Dr. L.D. Curtain (Hale) promises viewers a pathway to unbridled happiness; fans of the show know better than to take the untrustworthy villain at his word. As Constance’s eyes begin drooping, we can see her falling into a trance, which could spell trouble for the whip-smart troublemaker and her misfit friends.

Tony Hale has identified the only people who don’t love “Arrested Development”: Mr. and Mrs. Hale, his parents.
For Mother’s Day, Jimmy Kimmel had celebrity guests read real tweets from their mom. Here’s the one Hale read for the ABC late-night host: “Hey son, our new friends are Loving ‘Arrested Development. We still don’t get it.”
Happy Mother’s Day.
Kimmel asked Hale, who stopped by on Thursday to promote his new Disney+ series “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” if that was really real.
“My parents think ‘Arrested’ is dumb. To this day, they think it’s a stupid show,” Hale responded. “I’m not kidding. The only episode they thought was funny was when Martin Short was on. [My dad] was like, ‘Well he’s funny. That guy’s funny.'”
They’re not huge “Veep” people either, it turns out.

Disney’s adaptation of “The Mysterious Benedict Society” is moving from Hulu to sister streaming service Disney+, the company announced Friday.
Led by “Veep” alum Tony Hale, the series follows four gifted orphans who are recruited by an eccentric, benefactor to go on a secret mission. Placed undercover at a boarding school known as “The Institute,” they must foil a nefarious plot with global ramifications while creating a new sort of family along the way.
The eight-episode first season, which is based on the first book in the series by author Trenton Lee Stewart, is set to premiere in 2021.
Hale pulls double-duty on the series, starring as both Mr. Benedict, the “rumpled, affable eccentric genius” and head of the titular society, and his “frustratingly sharp, well-put-together (if villainous)” twin brother, Mr. Curtain. Kristen Schaal, Ryan Hurst, MaameYaa Boafo, Gia Sandhu, Seth Carr, Emmy DeOliveira, Mystic Inscho and Marta Timofeeva also star.

“The Mysterious Benedict Society” series is being moved to Disney Plus after originally being developed for Hulu.
The show was originally ordered to series at Hulu last year, but is now slated to debut on fellow Disney-owned streamer Disney Plus in 2021. It is based on the book series of the same name by Trenton Lee Stewart.
“‘The Mysterious Benedict Society’ is a beautifully executed adaptation of the celebrated and beloved book series. It’s original, clever and fun for the whole family, which makes it the perfect fit for Disney+,” said Dana Walden, chairman of Entertainment for Walt Disney Television. “One of the great benefits to creators working with our company is that we have a platform that’s right for every series, and having seen the first few episodes of this show, there is no better home for it than Disney+.”

The Mysterious Benedict Society, starring Veep’s Tony Hale, is on the move – going from Hulu to Disney+.
The series, which is based on Trenton Lee Stewart’s best-selling YA books, originally was developed for Hulu but will now premiere on Disney’s streaming service in 2021.
It marks the first example of a show moving in that direction, though titles such as High Fidelity and Love, Victor have previously moved in the other direction.
The decision appears to be related to the tone of the content. Dana Walden, chairman of Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, said Mysterious Benedict Society is “fun for the whole family” and calling it a “perfect fit” for Disney+.
This comes after Walden was handed a new title earlier this week as part of a restructure at the media conglomerate that saw it separate content creation and distribution. Walden oversees development and production operations of Disney TV Studios,...

After pulling off a victory at the Golden Globes for Best TV Comedy Actor, Ramy Youssef is now seeking to replicate the win at the Emmys. He’s earned two two nominations: one for playing Ramy Hassan on his eponymous Hulu series and one for Best Comedy Directing. For his acting submission, Youssef has chosen “Ramy‘s” Season 2 finale, “You Are Naked in Front of Your Sheikh.”
The episode opens with a flashback to Ramy and his cousin Amani (Rosaline Elbay) meeting up for a hookup at a hotel in Egypt. The hotel staff harasses them, believing they are an unmarried couple, but they back off after Amani claims that she and Ramy are siblings. Amani then says she’s tired of sneaking around and wants to tell their family about their relationship so they can get engaged. Ramy doesn’t want to move the relationship forward, which makes Amani break it off.

When it comes to the Emmys’ lead comedy and drama actor categories, the majority of men of color nominated fall into an interesting theme: They’re involved in storytelling about different kinds of families that are historically underrepresented on television. They are Black, Black and blended, Muslim or chosen. Their stories reflect communities that audiences are still getting used to seeing, the narratives illuminate the humanity of people trying to fit into a world that doesn’t cater to them.
“It’s meant unity, it’s meant strength, it’s meant power, it’s meant compassion,” says Anderson, lead comedy actor nominee, of being able to explore the Johnson family for six seasons so far. “Especially to those who’ve come from broken families. Sometimes we look to the arts for what’s missing in our lives and in our homes. I’m glad to be a part of something that people can aspire to.

When Archie (Jeremy Pope) is threatened with being removed from his own screenplay because making a movie written by a Black screenwriter would “sink the studio” in Netflix’s “Hollywood,” he responds with as much composure and restraint as he can muster. But given that the show is set in the 1940s, when Black individuals had historically little power in showbiz, he didn’t immediately rail against such comments.
“Maybe in 2020 he would push back, he would fight back, because we have a little bit more leverage now — we have receipts, we have ways in which we can hold people accountable,” Pope says. “But in the ’40s and ’50s, it was just a way in which we had to navigate and move.”
Pope’s Archie is just one of several lead actor nominees who played characters finally forced by external events to stand up for themselves, whether in the face of social pressures,...
