Ah, Zero Escape. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
Each entry in Kotaro Uchikoshi’s trilogy of visual novel/adventure games has lodged itself in my brain with a whole host of fond memories from the experience. Though ostensibly designed as single player experiences, the twisting narratives and lovable casts of each project made them ideal for my husband and I to bond over during the early stages of our relationship. Thinking about either 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors or Virtue’s Last Reward immediately brings to mind long, late-night play sessions in which our two faces hovered over the tiny 3Ds screens, gasping at each bloody twist and laughing at the excellently-localized dialogue.

Chicago – On Tuesday, December 6th, the Midwest Independent Film Festival gave out their 2016 “Best of the Midwest” Awards with a ceremony at Rockit Bar & Grill in Chicago. Best Feature honors went to “For Grace,” directed by Mark Helenowski and Kevin Pang. Best Female Actor was Amy Frazzini of “Guidance,” Best Male Actors were T.J. Jagodowski and David Pasquesi of “T.J. & Dave,” and Best Screenplay was Robert Putka of “Mad,” among other categories.

Hundreds of notable bands, movie stars and tech innovators are making their way to Austin, Texas for the South by Southwest festival, but the opening day keynote bought an even bigger star to the stage: President Barack Obama. Longtime Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died at the age of 79, Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed on Saturday. We're on the verge of the SXSW Film Festival, so several area theaters will be turning into official venues by this time next week. Specialty screenings are still going on in the week ahead, but it definitely is about to slow down until after the festival has us all wiped out.
Austin Film Society has a Free Member Friday tonight at the Marchesa with Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket. The group will be screening the movie along with the original short film that inspired it and it's free to all Afs members. Members can also go the Afs website to claim two free tickets to a special advance screening on Tuesday night at the Paramount of Alex Gibney's new documentary Going Clear, which examines the Church of Scientology. The Battlestar Galactica alum is set to guest-star on USA Network’s legal hit as an adversary to Mike and Harvey (and possibly more for the latter), TVLine has learned exclusively.
Helfer will play Evan Smith, Mike and Harvey’s opposing counsel in a huge class action case. Although the two sides exchange blows, Harvey’s first instinct may be to exchange numbers with her.
