Hitman, showcasing the signature shaved head, barcode tattoo, slick suits and dual pistols of anti-hero Agent 47, has been a monumental multimedia presence since its 2000 video game debut, spawning several sequels and even two film adaptations. However, the franchise will soon make its deadly mark in new territory, with Hulu’s plans for a television series adaptation.
The streaming outlet is teaming with Fox 21 to bring Hitman to the small screen, reports Deadline. Tackling the tough task of adapting the oft-adapted, 25-million-unit-selling, video game franchise, especially after two (financially disappointing) attempts to strike box office gold with 2007’s Hitman and 2015’s Hitman: Agent 47, the studio has brought in a contemporary action heavyweight in Derek Kolstad, the writer and creator of the 2014 bellwether action flick, John Wick,...

Played to a similarly remixed version of “Voodoo Child” that accompanied the reveal trailer of Aleksander Bach’s middling Hitman: Agent 47, Paramount has premiered the bat-shit insane new trailer for xXx 3 that heralds The Return of Xander Cage, Vin Diesel’s musclebound adrenaline junkie that clearly hasn’t lost his edges in the intervening years since the cult actioner of 2002.
Tethered with a January release date – often the dumping ground for Hollywood studios – and a fairly generic, run-of-the-mill trailer, it’s difficult to muster any excitement for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and that’s even factoring in the callbacks to Diesel’s breakout as the rogue agent.
Alas, we’ll reserve full judgement until the turn of the year. The Return of Xander Cage boasts a cast that encompasses Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette, the returning Samuel L. Jackson, Furious 7 co-star Tony Jaa, Conor McGregor,...

For all the botched conversions and box office duds that the practice has produced, suddenly there’s a renewed interest among the Hollywood elite for video game adaptations. From Splinter Cell to the Michael Fassbender-led Assassin’s Creed, there’s a handful of projects that have the potential to finally bring an end to the curse that has lingered over the video game movie for well over a decade. Ubisoft isn’t the only publisher muscling its way into the action, though, as Square Enix is quietly toiling away on a Just Cause film.
As one of the most bombastic franchises in the medium, Avalanche’s chaotic open-world series is revered for it stylish set-pieces and general disregard to physics. In fact, during a recent interview with IGN, Just Cause producer Adrian Askarieh likened the nascent film to not only Just Cause 3, but also Universal’s box office juggernaut Fast and Furious.

'Straight Outta Compton' poster. Weekend box office: 'Straight Outta Compton' to beat weak competitors, but still far from being top blockbuster directed by black filmmaker If you thought last weekend was bad at the U.S. and Canada box office, you should see what's in store for this weekend, Aug. 28-30, '15. For starters, only one movie, F. Gary Gray's sleeper hit Straight Outta Compton, is expected to earn more than $10 million. The rest – and that includes Zac Efron, Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan, and the Power of (Christian) Prayer – will perform quite powerlessly indeed. In case Straight Outta Compton reaches the box office gurus' estimated $15 million, it will get close to the $140 million mark. Bear in mind there's no guarantee that will happen; despite basically no competition, the drop-off rate of Gray's hip hopping film was steeper than expected last weekend. (See updated weekend box office estimates.) Now, some...

By now it's pretty much a done thing to walk into any movie based on a video game with rock-bottom hopes.
Hitman: Agent 47 delivers on those expectations, half-heartedly rebooting a franchise that didn't need to be revived in the first place (Timothy Olyphant's version came and went in 2007).
This time around Homeland's Rupert Friend gets a shaven head and barcode tattoo to play the eponymous assassin, who's tasked with tracking down the elusive Katia van Dees (Hannah Ware), a woman whose long-lost father holds the key to the genetic enhancement 'Agent' programme.
Hot on their heels is Zachary Quinto's John Smith, an agent for a shady organisation (dubbed Syndicate International and headed up by Thomas Kretschmann's Le Clerq) looking to get their hands on the Agent tech for their own nefarious gain.
Bullets and blood spray thick and fast across Hitman's slender 98 minutes, meaning...

'Sinister 2' poster. 'American Ultra,' 'Hitman: Agent 47' and 'Sinister 2': Weekend box office bombs American Ultra, Hitman: Agent 47, and Sinister 2 are the new entries at the North American box office this weekend, Aug. 21-23, '15. All three of them are expected to underperform – with American Ultra having a particularly disastrous bow, especially for a movie starring Best Actor Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and former Twilight star Kristen Stewart. Whether you blame it on a glut of movies targeting the same audience, a lack of major box office draws, or poor reviews, only one of the debutantes is expected to score more than $10 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters by Sunday evening. Hanna and Her Sisters: The Art of the Persistently Insipid Video Game Reboot
A tip of the hat to 20th Century Fox as they valiantly try to re-launch their failed video-game based franchise with a new chapter of risible artifice, Hitman: Agent 47, which follows the 2007 film Hitman. Recapitulated for a ‘new generation,’ or so it constantly confirms for us, perhaps it would have been beneficial to hire someone other than returning screenwriter Skip Woods for the treatment (who went on to pen franchise material like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team, and A Good Day to Die Hard). Staunchly uninterested in providing even one moment of logical comprehension or stage anything resembling an original concept, this derivative slog of action sequences and B-movie tropes tiredly goes through the motions of narrative filmmaking but never quite reveals what the point seems to be.

Don’t let the derivative title fool you: Hitman: Agent 47 isn’t the forty-seventh movie about assassins, special operatives, and human weapons to be released in 2015 – it just feels like it is. We’ve had TV revivals, sends-ups, spoofs, and sequels aplenty in the espionage field these last eight months, and most have been satisfying distractions. November’s new Bond movie could be the corker ending to a year defined by a spycraft obsession, or be the one martini too many that tips audiences into a genre hangover. Compared to these world-renowned agents affecting the box office balance of power, the disposable Hitman: Agent 47 is just a gun for hire: it enters and exits the screen unnoticed, leaving no trace of its existence except the 96 minutes of your time it just killed.
There’s a calculated logic to 20th Century Fox signing another contract under the “Hitman” name:...

Hitman: Agent 47
Written by Skip Woods and Michael Finch
Directed by Aleksander Bach
U.S., 2015
Video game adaptations are not only uninteresting, but they can’t possibly be anything close to their source material given that the mechanics and visceral nature of video games aren’t easily recreated on film. Hitman is stealthy, meticulous and never-failing, but because none of those qualities translate to the bigscreen, 20th Century Fox released another loud, dumb action movie into theatres before summer ends.
Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) is a genetically engineered killing machine endowed with the trial and error of 46 past clones. A cold, emotionless killer as a central figure requires a strong supporting cast and an engaging story, but because Hitman: Agent 47 has none of those things, massive retinkering is required. The script by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day to Die Hard), unfortunately treads largely the same steps...

The story is baffling, the characters disappointing and the twists anticlimactic, but this video game adaptation has violent energy
There’s probably a more effective way of killing people, but extending both arms perpendicular to your chest as you spin and shoot handguns is certainly a photogenic method. With any luck, your long coat will billow, adding the right touch of panache. The emotionless assassin played by Rupert Friend at the heart of Aleksander Bach’s Hitman: Agent 47 uses this move a number of times, like a dancer proudly pirouetting or a jazz drummer returning to a specific fill he’s perfected.
This vaguely science-fiction action picture based on a video game (and not a sequel to 2007’s Hitman) is an idiotic mess with a bafflingly dense prologue, an endless final battle, lifeless performances and anticlimactic twists, but it does have a degree of visual flair. When the characters...

The latest attempt at turning a video game into film hits this week as the reboot of the "Hitman" franchise, Aleksander Bach's action-thriller "Hitman: Agent 47," hits cinemas.
Like many a potential franchise launcher (or in this case re-launcher), this one sows the seeds for a potential sequel. Screen Rant reports that after the film's end credits there's an extra scene featuring an antagonist from the video games who could appear in a follow-up film.
The character from 2006's "Hitman: Blood Money" is that of Mark Parchezzi III, aka. The Albino. The scene reportedly also features an actor in the role but it's not known who it is.
Rupert Friend, Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, Ciaran Hinds, and Thomas Kretschmann star in "Hitman: Agent 47" which opens August 21st.

With Io Interactive’s sprawling video game franchise at its disposal, it comes as no surprise that 20th Century Fox has mapped out plans for a potential sequel to Hitman: Agent 47, and according to a recent report by Screen Rant, the studio may have included a post-credits sting that teases the arrival of a new villain for Rupert Friend’s cold-blooded assassin. Be warned, though, it does contain spoilers.
First thing’s first, Friend (Homeland) has signed on for multiple movies as 47, the man-made killing machine on a mission to topple the mega-corp that created him in the first place. This indicates that ideas for a sequel are, at the very least, in the early planning stages at the studio. Just two weeks out from release, 20th Century Fox has posted the final global trailer for the upcoming "Hitman: Agent 47," the action film adaptation of the popular stealth video game franchise.
Aleksander Bach directs the story which follows an elite genetically engineered assassin (Rupert Friend) whose latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret is his past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own.
Originally planned as a sequel to the 2007 film starring Timothy Olyphant, the project was on hold long enough that Fox instead opted for a full reboot. Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciaran Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann also star.

"47 - you are a legend." "I'm better." 20th Century Fox has debuted one final crazy epic, operatic trailer for Hitman: Agent 47, which unleashes action fury like all hell. Cheesy as it may be, whatever, it looks entertaining - the action looks keenly choreographed and I love the sleek feeling of every detail with 47. Hannah Ware plays Katia van Dees, and the cast also includes Ciarán Hinds, Thomas Kretschmann and Emilio Rivera. If you still need any convincing - give this last trailer a look. 20th Century Fox has today unveiled a new featurette for its upcoming video game adaptation Hitman: Agent 47, which takes a tentative peak into the mind of the stone cold, genetically enhanced killing machine.
Stepping into the shoes of the titular one-man army is Homeland star Rupert Friend, who is on a mission to sabotage the cloning process that brought him into this world as an emotionless sharpshooter. As a result, Friend’s Agent 47 will have his proverbial crosshairs trained on Thomas Kretschmann’s Le Clerq, the chairman of a twisted organisation known as Syndicate International. In order to do so, our protagonist must track down his daughter, Katia van Dees (Hannah Ware).

The new trailer for 20th Century Fox’s August action flick Hitman: Agent 47 doesn’t make any excuses for what the film is: an exceptionally slick and kinetic video game adaptation packed with brutal fights and ridiculous gymnastics. If you could use some escapism while taking refuge from the hot summer sun, this movie is certainly looking like a good option.
Rupert Friend, of Homeland fame, stars in the action pic as the titular agent, a genetically engineered assassin who rejects his programming in order to track down his creators and earn his freedom. He’s joined in that pursuit by Hannah Ware, who’s seemingly playing another agent unaware of her conditioning. Zachary Quinto co-stars as a well-dressed baddie, and Ciaran Hinds also has a key role.

Fox has released a new Hitman: Agent 47 trailer, the movie based on the Io Interactive video game first released in 2000 and the most recent sequel version of which was released in 2012, unless you count the mobile version, "Hitman: Sniper", which was released just this month on iOS and Android. But how many really carec Especially when the latest movie version, directed by Aleksander Bach and starring Rupert Friend in the title role, really doesn't look much better than the 2007 installment, which was unable to crack $100 million worldwide upon release. Not many video game adaptations are able to succeed, most often because they are poor adaptations. The Resident Evil franchise did well by keeping the budget down and scoring big internationally and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider did well thanks in large part to Angelina Jolie. Otherwise you have the $122 million worldwide success of Mortal Kombat back in 1995 and Dreamworks is...

"You, my friend, are a riddle to me..." 20th Century Fox has debuted a kick ass new full-length trailer for Hitman: Agent 47, directed by Aleksander Bach, starring Rupert Friend as Agent 47. This actually looks really good, I'll be honest. Much better than the first trailer. Or at least I'm really into it - the footage looks sleek and visually polished, yet still badass. This new trailer has the kind of editing that sells tickets. I'm even starting to warm up to Rupert as "47". The rest of the cast includes Zachary Quinto, Thomas Kretschmann, Hannah Ware and Emilio Rivera. Seriously, this doesn't look so bad, it actually looks like it might be a worthy action contender this summer. The scene with the red car looks like a fun set piece. Here's the new full-length trailer (+ poster) for Aleksander Bach's Hitman: Agent 47, direct from IGN: Hitman: Agent 47 is directed by Aleksander Bach,...

If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. Hollywood sure loves that maxim. “Hitman” featuring “Justified” star Timothy Olymphant didn’t work? No mind, just start over. That’s 20th Century Fox’s approach and they’ve restarted their would-be franchise as “Hitman: Agent 47.” The movie stars Rupert Friend, who’s done some really terrific work on “Homeland.” In “Agent 47” he is a genetically engineered hitman tasked with killing Katia (Hannah Ware), the daughter of the head of a mega corporation. Why would he do that? Because the company is building an army of assassins even deadlier than he is. It sounds not unlike “The Terminator” given that the Agent eventually teams up with Katia. “He’s not prepared for the human emotion,” Aleksander Bach, who’s making his directorial debut with this adaptation of the Hitman videogame told EW. “When you’re a cold assassin, how much humanity is still there?...

The highlight of the event was the must-see film of 2015 – Ridley Scott’s The Martian.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. IGN has pulled back the blood-red curtain on an all-new poster for 20th Century Fox’s forthcoming video game adaptation, Hitman: Agent 47.
Starring Homeland alum Rupert Friend as the titular, reticent and all-round lethal assassin, the film is based on Eidos’ long-running series. With Aleksander Bach behind the lens, it’s understood that this latest cinematic interpretation won’t consider the middling 2009 movie as canon, instead writing a new chapter in Agent 47’s bloody history.
This modern retelling also has space for Star Trek Into Darkness and American Horror Story‘s Zachary Quinto, who is on board to play one of the movie’s overarching villains – a cog in part of a mega-corporation hellbent on monetizing Agent 47’s precious DNA. Oldboy‘s Hannah Ware is also part of the cast, and going off of the trailers released to date, it seems that the actress will be a potential ally...

20th Century Fox has debuted a new international poster for the studio’s upcoming video game adaptation, Hitman: Agent 47, which sees Homeland star Rupert Friend as the titular one-man army.
Marking director Aleksander Bach’s first venture behind the lens, Agent 47 will kick the lore established by the Timothy Olyphant-fronted sequel to the kerb in favor of a full reboot. With Friend starring as the elite, genetically-modified agent, Bach’s film will see him hunted down by a power-mongering mega-corporation intent on using his DNA to engineer an entire squad of controllable killing machines.

Rupert Friend takes the title role as the new Hitman movie gets its first trailer....
Last time the videogame Hitman made it to the big screen, things didn't go too well. Timothy Olyphant was Agent 47 on that occasion, and whilst the film had its fans, it didn't make the required splash. If there were plans for a sequel, they were abandoned soon after. Instead? It's reboot time.
It's back to square one then for the new take on Hitman, which arrives in cinemas on August 28th. This time, Rupert Friend is taking on the lead role, with Zachary Quinto and Ciaran Hinds co-starring.

Based on the fictional character Agent 47 from the “Hitman” video game series, there already was a “Hitman” film in 2007 starring Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”). But grossing only $39 million domestically, 20th Century Fox decided to take another kick at the can to reboot their own series and start over again. Now titled “Hitman: Agent 47” the film stars Rupert Friend, Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware and Thomas Kretschmann, which isn’t exactly a super-upgrade from the last film, but what were you expecting, really? The plot is pretty simple: An assassin teams up with a woman to help her find her father and uncover the mysteries of her ancestry. The film is directed by Aleksander Bach, who as far as we can tell, has zero other credits on IMDb. Nice work if you can get it. The movie was promoted at the 2014 Comic-Con in San Diego and at one point had a March 2015 release date,...
