When Apple TV+ launched on November 1, 2019, there were reservations about it because who needed another streaming service?
It seemed like another venture by the tech giant, Apple, to squeeze its customers the last dollars in their pockets as nothing cheap comes from them.
However, the launch surprised many when the service was cheaper than all others in the same industry, and here's the kicker: the shows were actually good.
The streamer hit the mark with its scripted launch dramas that boasted a stellar cast of respectable actors, and the stories told were some of the best of the past ten years.
The launch slate consisted of three top-tier dramas: For All Mankind, See, and The Morning Show.
These shows were peak television with ingenuity, great production value, and, most importantly, great stories.

When The Morning Show started its journey four years ago, the world was a different place. Covid hadn’t happened yet, and the “MeToo movement” had just started to receive deserving attention. At a time like that, the story of a morning show anchor waking up to the breaking news of her co-anchor’s alleged sexual misconduct resonated so well with the audience. What further helped was the fact that these two people were being played by two sitcom stalwarts, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell. Of course, celebrating Carell only for his most iconic role, Michael Scott from The Office, would be unfair to the actor and the kind of talent he possesses.
It takes a lot of guts to play a character like Mitch Kessler, especially at a time like that. Carell not only did so with panache, he actually delved deep into the characters’ psyche and played it...

Picking up from exactly where they left off last week, Apple TV’s The Morning Show returns with a deliciously dramatic, extremely eventual penultimate episode of the season, which sets up the course for an explosive finale. Filled with nail-biting tension, a lot of scheming and screaming, the surprise return of an old face, and Cory Ellison understandably losing his marbles, this episode is basically everything The Morning Show fans love to see in the show. Let us take a closer look.

Does Alex Join Team Paul Marks?
Of course she does, which is not surprising at all. It doesn’t happen right away, though. Alex Levy does have a conscience, so she does spare a thought for what Paul’s plan would do to the many Uba employees who would lose their jobs after the company goes to ashes. But Alex Levy also wants power, and the...

With three more episodes left, Apple TV’s The Morning Show returns this week with a very typical episode. Given how the show left us last week with as many as three story arcs hanging in the balance, it was quite expected, frankly. And for the most part, the episode works out. There are things that you have probably seen coming for a while, and then there are some wild surprises. Let us sink our teeth into everything without further ado.

[This story contains spoilers from the sixth episode of The Morning Show season three, “The Stanford Student.”]
The stars of The Morning Show constantly make controversial choices. That’s what makes them relatable, according to the creative team behind the Apple TV+ series, who had promised eyebrow-raising decisions to come from their starring protagonists — played by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon — in the currently airing third season.
And following last week’s 2020 flashback reveal that Witherspoon’s Bradley Jackson buried evidence around the Jan. 6 insurrection, the sixth episode in the media drama placed Aniston’s Alex Levy in the hot seat as she decides to blur ethical lines — once again — when it comes to her personal relationships.
Alex famously had an intimate relationship with her disgraced former morning show co-anchor, Mitch Kessler, played by Steve Carell. Mitch, who was fired from the show within the show, also titled The Morning Show, over sexual assault, nearly cost Alex her career:...

One new face is tech titan Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), who promises all kinds of shakeups and challenges for Uba. When Apple TV+ first launched, one of its marquee shows was undoubtedly "The Morning Show." Starring Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, and Reese Witherspoon as the anchors of a popular morning talk show in trouble, it quickly gained notice for its star-studded cast as much as for its deliberate parallels to the upheavals in real-life broadcast journalism of the time.
Over the seasons, the series has become less directly based on real-life events, but echoes of familiar stories still remain.
Is "The Morning Show" Based on a True Story?
When the first season of "The Morning Show" debuted in 2019, it centered on a badly behaved, popular man anchor on a beloved morning show, which seemed almost ripped from the headlines. Mitch Kessler, the fictional anchor in hot water (played by Carell), is at the center of a sexual misconduct scandal, including the discovery of a remote "close door" button under his office desk.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the first two episodes of The Morning Show Season 3.
It’s been two years — in real life and in the Apple TV+ series — since Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) signed off of The Morning Show from her living room, encouraging viewers to “stay safe and stay sane” in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Season 3 of the Apple TV+ series debuted Wednesday, and Uba is back up and running. But who knows for how long. Over the past two seasons, Alex has weathered quite a few storms. It all started with the sexual misconduct allegations against co-anchor Mitch Kessler (Steve Carrell). Then, his sudden death. She also survived being canceled after her own actions, or lack thereof, came to light in relation to Mitch’s misconduct. And to top it all off, she contracts Covid. Her only constant? Work.

We now know the pandemic was just the beginning of the collective trauma the world has gone through these past few years. The chum bucket of issues that have politicized and weaponized humans against one another since 2020 often feels bottomless. Now, “The Morning Show” is here to recapture many of those harrowing moments with a third season that refuses to come up for air.
When Season 2 went dark, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) had just been diagnosed with Covid. Her producer Chip Black (Mark Duplass) faked a positive test result to quarantine with her and film it all for Uba’s new streaming service. It was just the thing Alex needed to be “uncanceled” after the world learned she had slept with Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell).

Environmental activism was at the forefront of Apple’s product announcement event on Sept. 12, as the company boasted about various degrees of carbon neutrality, as well as various components made out of recycled materials, including the band for the latest iteration of the Apple Watch, which is apparently 82 percent recycled yarn.
The third season of Apple TV+’s Emmy-winning The Morning Show is probably closer to 90 percent recycled yarn, as the star-studded, media-centric soap transitions from its established position as a second-rate The Newsroom — all the smug 20/20 hindsight, none of that pesky Sorkin dialogue — to a fresh approach that’s half Network (acknowledged) and half Billions (unacknowledged). (This was not going to be my lede before the Apple presentation. Thank you, Tim Cook!)
In this instance, narrative recycling works out fairly well for The Morning Show. If my standard is the number of times I visibly cringed or rolled my eyes watching my screeners,...

Our favorite screaming match is back for another round. We are talking about The Morning Show, arguably Apple TV’s biggest show in terms of both prestige and boasting big names. The Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon starrer was pretty much a runway success from the start, thanks to all the high-pitched character drama between its two lead stars and everyone else as well.
Almost two years after the second season aired, The Morning Show is back for its third season. This time, it is sort of the need of the hour for the people who have a thing for the “people just talking loudly and that’s all we need” genre. HBO’s Succession has ended, and we’ll have to wait for God knows how long for FX’s The Bear, but thankfully, Apple TV is here to rescue us with this pressure cooker of a show. Before going into...

“The show is much juicier and sexier than it’s ever been,” promises executive producer and director Mimi Leder of the third installment of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, about the on- and off-camera drama at a national rise-and-shine broadcast news program. That’s no small claim. From its first moments, The Morning Show—the series that helped make Apple TV+’s reputation as a streamer—has shocked and captivated. In its explosive 2019 debut season, popular Tms coanchor Alex Levy’s (Jennifer Aniston) longtime on-air partner Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) was exposed for sexual harassment and replaced by ambitious and impulsive plucked-from-obscurity field reporter Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon). The women eventually bonded, using their power to reveal the wider toxic culture of their employer, the Uba network, now led by egomaniac CEO Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup). Last season saw Alex’s departure from the morning news program and her...

Apple TV+ released a teaser trailer for the third season of “The Morning Show” Thursday.
“We were supposed to change things, weren’t we?” Bradley Jackson’s voice said at the beginning of the clip. “I wanted to make a difference.”
Her co-anchor on Uba’s beloved morning news show Alex Levy has managed to make it through Covid as well as a mild cancellation (for flying to a Covid hot zone in Italy to see Steve Carrell’s Mitch Kessler) in season two.
“I need to have a say in the future of this place,” she added.
Season 3 will throw the future of the network into question when tech titan Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) takes an interest in Uba.
“You need a miracle,” Hamm’s voiceover as Marks added. “I am offering you a lifeline.”

If there’s one theme of The Morning Show, it’s that secrets never stay buried.

You might think that Steve Carell must have won an Emmy by now, but remarkably he hasn’t. “The Office” notoriously never won a single acting award from the TV academy, despite winning Best Comedy Series in 2006. Carell earned six straight Emmy nominations for Best Comedy Actor (2006-2011). But he didn’t win any of those. His last loss in 2011 was especially surprising because he was being considered for his farewell season on the show and entered as his episode submission the emotional “Goodbye Michael.”

Earlier this year, the Apple TV+ series "The Morning Show" was renewed for a third season, with most of its ensemble cast members set to return. The show features Jennifer Aniston as news anchor Alex Levy and Reese Witherspoon as field reporter Bradley Jackson. It follows Alex struggling to keep her job when a rivalry begins to brew between her and Jackson; an impulsive decision-maker who is quickly rising to the top. The series is an unapologetic, outspoken drama that showcases the ruthless world of morning news through the lens of the people that work there. The series has often gone through last-minute rewrites to incorporate major, ongoing real-life events, including the #MeToo movement and the Covid-19 pandemic.

As she prepared to begin production that same day, Witherspoon discussed Hamm joining for Season 3 as media mogul Paul Marks. “I might have gotten a lot of phone calls from my friends when they announced Jon Hamm,” she said.
“He is the greatest,” she added. “It’s such a good part too. You’re just going to get the full Hamm. Wait, that didn’t sound right,” she laughed.
“He is a very complex character,” she continued. “He’s a media mogul and he gives Billy Crudup a run for his money, which I think is the most fun part too, because Billy could eat a scene like I’ve never seen somebody eat a scene, and Hamm gets...

Don Draper is heading to Uba.
Jon Hamm is joining season three of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.
Hamm, fresh from starring in Top Gun: Maverick, will play Paul Marks, a corporate titan who sets his sights on Uba, pulling Billy Crudup’s Cory, Jennifer Aniston’s Alex and Reese Witherspoon’s Bradley into his powerful orbit.
The third season of the drama series, which will see Charlotte Stoudt serve as showrunner, goes into production later this month.
It means that Hamm, who is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Commercial as part of a sarcastic ad that highlights that he has never starred in a project for Apple, finally joins the tech giant’s on-screen family.

One of the most pleasant surprises to have arisen out of “The Morning Show” is Billy Crudup’s scene-stealing turn as cutthroat network executive Cory Ellison. The role has brought the actor awards galore, including his first Emmy nomination and win, which he earned for the Apple TV+ drama’s debut season in 2020. Two years later, he’s nominated again in the category from which he walked away triumphant, Best Drama Supporting Actor, for the show’s second season. “It’s just the gift that keeps on giving,” Crudup told Gold Derby in a new webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). “Getting to play somebody that extravagant in a show with that kind of ambitions has already exceeded my expectations for almost any project, so to have people watch it and recognize it too is a great honor.”

Six years ago, Laurie Metcalf shocked Emmy prognosticators by earning three acting nominations in the same year for her lead role on comedy “Getting On” and for her guest turns on sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” and drama “Horace and Pete.” This year, legend Martin Short could be on track to do something incredibly similar, appearing on the Emmy acting ballot three times for three different series: Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” and “Schmigadoon!” He has the chance to not only pull off this impressive feat, but best it by one, too, with an additional bid as a producer.

Most known for her roles on “ER” and “The Good Wife,” Julianna Margulies knows what it’s like to be part of a TV show from the very beginning. In the case of Apple TV+‘s “The Morning Show,” however, the three-time Emmy winner had a different entry point, joining the acclaimed drama in its second season as Laura Peterson. “At first, I was a little bit intimidated — not by the cast, but just because I know what it’s like to already be in a moving machine that’s well oiled,” she tells Gold Derby in a new webchat in regard to boarding the show in Season 2 (watch our exclusive video interview above). Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” started with a man at the center.
Season 1 began with Steve Carell’s Mitch Kessler getting fired from a popular morning talk show following complaints of sexual harassment. However, instead of focusing on Mitch, creator Kerry Ehrin leaned in on those whom his actions impacted: The women steering the ship.
Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Karen Pittman led that journey in Season 1, which earned eight Emmy nominations, while Greta Lee and Julianna Margulies joined the second season.
Season 2 of the drama continued tracking the fallout of Mitch’s firing, while tackling the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Both seasons were intense to shoot, with what was happening in real life — no one expected the pandemic would still be going on years later.
Season 2 was “awful,” mentally, says Aniston, who also executive produces the drama. That said, there was a silver lining.

Of course Jennifer Aniston and Sebastian Stan are bound to talk about the 1990s. Stan is receiving Emmy buzz for donning tattoos and losing weight to play Tommy Lee, the Mötley Crüe drummer, in Hulu’s limited series “Pam & Tommy” — which is set in the decade that made Aniston a star on “Friends.” Actually, as Aniston thinks about it, she could see Stan chilling on the famous coffeehouse couch on her former sitcom. But they don’t agree about one thing: Is he a Joey or a Chandler?
The time travel then moves to the early days of Covid, to discuss Aniston’s transformative turn as anchor Alex Levy on Season 2 of “The Morning Show.” In the latest arc on the Apple TV+ drama, her character jets to Italy to confront her disgraced colleague and best friend Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) — but that wasn’t always the show’s plan.

“The shows we’re focused on, they’re all made with love, they’re all made by hand and we pour our hearts and souls [into them],” proclaims executive producer Michael Ellenberg about what keeps a producer up at night — not whether a show will be a success or a failure, but what if nobody cares? “The greatest fear,” he says about the prospect of a project getting lost in the noise of an overcrowded market. Just a few weeks into filming, production on the second season of Apple TV+‘s “The Morning Show” had to shut down in early 2020 due the then-oncoming Covid-19 pandemic. Even though more than half of the season had already been written at that point, the writers decided to rewrite it in order to incorporate what would become the global health crisis of our time into the original storyline. For re-recording mixer Elmo Ponsdomenech, addressing the pandemic within the story was an emotional undertaking. “I won’t lie to you: during the first episode, it was a bit emotional seeing… a pan across [an empty] New York City,” he admits in a new webchat with Gold Derby. “It’s not the New York that most of us know or know of, so it made the hairs on your arm stand up a little bit.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Apple TV+‘s “The Morning Show” was three and a half weeks into filming when production on its second season was forced to shut down in early 2020 due the then-oncoming Covid-19 pandemic. Although more than half of the second season had already been written at that point, the writers decided to rewrite it in order to incorporate what would become the global health crisis of our time into the original storyline. This decision, of course, had a significant effect on the entire production of the season. “After Covid, they decided that everything was going to get bigger and go around the world,” says production designer Nelson Coates, who boarded the show ahead of Season 2, in a new webchat with Gold Derby. The debut season of Apple TV+‘s “The Morning Show” ended with a bang as its finale sees the titular daily morning news program’s anchors, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), expose the Uba network and its president (Tom Irwin) for their knowledge of sexual misconduct and the creation of a toxic culture. Although the second season exhaustively explores the fallout of these dramatic events, it took on a new shape after the Covid-19 pandemic befell the world in early 2020 and became the defining global health crisis of our time. “In a story about news, you can’t pretend like it didn’t happen,” “The Morning Show” showrunner Kerry Ehrin tells Gold Derby in our exclusive video interview (watch above) about the importance of weaving the pandemic into the drama’s second season.

In 1997, Gillian Anderson bagged her second Screen Actors Guild award for “The X-Files” and thus became the first dual winner across the three solo female TV categories. She has since been followed by six more double drama actress champs, including Claire Foy and Sandra Oh in the last four years alone. Now, 2020 victor Jennifer Aniston is looking to become the eighth entrant on the list by prevailing once again for “The Morning Show.”
In this year’s drama actress contest, Aniston faces her costar, Reese Witherspoon, as well as Jung Ho-yeon (“Squid Game”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”). A documentary chronicling the experiences of disgraced actor Noel Clarke is in the works at Channel 4, Variety has confirmed.
Sources indicate that a project in early development at the “It’s a Sin” broadcaster will look to explore the events surrounding Clarke in the last year, though it’s still unclear what the exact angle or treatment will be.

One of the hottest awards contenders of the year, Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” has just revealed to Gold Derby that a whopping 22 cast members will be eligible for the ensemble prize at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
