In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

Three and a half decades post his initial portrayal, Michael Keaton unveils the narrative behind Tim Burton’s controversial decision to cast him as Batman ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
In a recent chat with GQ, Michael Keaton looked back on landing the role of Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s Batman flick, recognizing the initial uproar over his casting. Back in the late ’80s, fans weren’t sold on Keaton’s ability to pull off the iconic superhero, worried that his comedic background wouldn’t mesh with the dark character. Yet, Keaton has since earned acclaim as one of the top actors to don the Batman cape, proving Burton’s unconventional choice right. Keaton gave props to Burton for his gutsy call and shared some thoughts on his time filming the inaugural Batman film.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that the current plan is to “reboot” the beloved Disney adventure franchise, which has grossed $4.5 billion across five movies. Bruckheimer was fielding a question about the future of his hit franchises, which also includes the Tom Cruise-starring “Top Gun” series.
“It’s hard to tell,” Bruckheimer said. “You don’t know. You really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with ‘Top Gun’ you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does ‘Top Gun,’ I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot ‘Pirates,’ so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

The Fast and Furious franchise has been around since 2001, wowing audiences with its thrilling car chases, street racing, heists, and so much more. Starting the movie series with The Fast and the Furious starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and others, it kickstarted a franchise thay has endured for more than two decades. Its latest addition was Fast X, which saw the return of many actors, including Dwayne Johnson, who had bid goodbye to the franchise some years back.

Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav isn’t backing down over the decision to basically ‘delete’ the Batgirl film in 2022.
Uh-oh. Every time the Batgirl bonfire looks like it’s about to go out, along comes someone to pour a few more gallons of fuel onto it. In this case, once again, it’s the divisive boss of Warner Bros Discovery, David Zaslav.
The brief story so far. The movie Batgirl was coming towards the end of post-production when the decision was made to can the movie. Test screenings had been positive, but Warner Bros nonetheless took the decision to effectively delete the pretty much completed movie, and take the tax write-off money instead.
Leslie Grace was in the lead role, with Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton and J K Simmons in supporting roles.

They may be rascals, and scoundrels, and villains, and knaves, but it’s impossible to say that pirates aren’t fun to watch — at least on screen. And of course, there is perhaps no pirate more famous in pop culture at this point than Jack Sparrow, the bumbling, drunken heart of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Known for never having a plan but somehow always ending up with one that works out, the unreasonably charming pirate was brought to life by Johnny Depp for five movies across nearly 15 years. In his journeys, he encountered the Kraken, Davy Jones, the Fountain of Youth, and even Poseidon’s trident.
But, if you’re here, you probably know all this. What you want to know is how to watch Sparrow and his pirate friends — including Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan — in all their swashbuckling glory.

After years of director Michael Bay bludgeoning viewers to within an inch of their lives with "Transformers" movies filled by nonstop explosions, crass toilet humor, and pretty much rampant instances of racism and misogyny, Paramount correctly realized that fans needed a bit of a change of pace with the 2018 prequel "Bumblebee." In the hands of director Travis Knight and writer Christina Hodson, their mission statement seemed to be erring on the side of character and raising the stakes not through end-of-the-world shenanigans, but by taking characters we'd grown to love and simply putting obstacles in their path. Wrap that up in a heartfelt coming-of-age story with a genuinely likable lead (thanks to Hailee Steinfeld's performance) and the end result was the best movie in the franchise, by default. What a concept!

“Pirates of the Caribbean 6” is looking to get weird, according to co-screenwriter Craig Mazin.
The “Last of Us” showrunner and “Pirates 6” scribe told The Los Angeles Times that the franchise installment he wrote with “Pirates” staple screenwriter Ted Elliott was almost “too weird” for Walt Disney Co.
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird,” Mazin said. “And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”
The most recent “Pirates” film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” premiered in 2017. The sixth franchise installment is believed to be set with the original characters; however, there is no word yet if Johnny Depp will be back as Jack Sparrow.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer first said in May 2022 that Depp will not return “at this point” amid Depp’s defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard following her abuse allegations.

20 years after uncovering buried treasure with "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," Disney has yet to repeat that success with any of its other theme park ride-inspired films. As such, the House of Mouse intends to return to the scene of the crime for what will be its sixth round of blockbuster piracy so far.
The sixth "Pirates of the Caribbean" installment has already gone through several permutations. "Deadpool" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick once toyed with the notion of rebooting the franchise, and there was even talk of a spinoff film starring Margot Robbie taking the place of a traditional sequel at one point. Back in 2022, Robbie indicated the latter film, which was written by her "Birds of Prey" scribe Christina Hodson, has since sunk into Davy Jones's Locker, but that may not be the case. Craig Mazin recently told the Los Angeles Times that the script for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” is so weird he is surprised Disney actually bought it. Variety reported in summer 2020 that Disney was in early development on two “Pirates” movies: A reboot led by Margot Robbie and a sixth film in the original franchise written by Mazin and Ted Elliott, the latter of whom co-wrote the first four “Pirates” movies.
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird,” Mazin said. “And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s The Flash, which hit theaters in June, now has a date for its streaming debut on Max: the superhero pic starring Ezra Miller will bow Friday, August 25.
The film, in which Miller reprised his role as Barry Allen in the superhero’s first stand-alone pic, was highly touted by incoming DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, but it saw a sluggish bow in theaters. It opened to $55.1 million over its first three days domestically, and $64M over the Juneteenth holiday frame. Along with a similarly tepid performance overseas, all those numbers were below expectations for a DC tentpole with a budget of $200M.
The pic, directed by Andy Muschietti, is currently sitting on a $268.5 million global box office total.
Along with Miller, the ensemble cast included Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue and Michael Keaton.

DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

When Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ was released in 2013, we all thought a new era of DC had started since the movie was supposed to kick off a cinematic universe that was supposed to bring DC into the cinematic universe race with Marvel. However, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ received a mixed critical response, and despite grossing over $800 million worldwide, it was deemed a commercial disappointment since it was the first live-action movie that assembled Batman and Superman together.
In 2014, Warner Bros. and DC revealed their planned slate of DC movies, which included many solo movies like ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Aquaman,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Cyborg,’ and ‘The Green Lantern Corps.’ Now, nine years later, only three of these movies have been made, with the difference that ‘The Flash’ turned out to be very different from what it was originally planned. DC’s latest movie, ‘The Flash,’ was released last month after nine long years of development hell. Although the movie ultimately turned out to be one of the worst box-office failures in the history of this genre, it still got more-or-less decent reviews from fans and more mixed reviews from critics, who praised action sequences and performances but criticized visual effects, and the third act.
Still, the Ezra Miller-starring movie is one of the most unique DC movies to date since it presented itself as some sort of DC’s ‘No Way Home,’ and it featured a ton of cameos, not only from Dceu but from the entire DC Multiverse in general. Although bringing back Christopher Reeve’s Superman via computer-generated imagery sparked controversies, one other Superman that showed up in the movie was Nicolas Cage’s incarnation of the character from a movie that never happened.

What do you expect from a DC character movie? Spectacle, entertainment, some jokes, agility, many superheroes, and above all, a plethora of special effects and a state-of-the-art action-packed show. ‘The Flash’ delivers all of that and more, exceeding audience expectations.

The multiverse is everywhere. It’s all around us and wherever we go, we seem to be getting stuck in it. From multiple Spider-Man movies, a Doctor Strange Movie, and even an Oscar-winning best picture movie, the multiverse is at its peak. It’s no surprise then, that DC get their turn and in doing so have turned to the world’s fastest superhero, so we can watch him race his way through the DC multiverse.
Ezra Miller returns, despite all they’ve done, all they have been charged with, and all they have been accused of, they find themselves on the big screen as Barry Allen once again. This time Barry Allen uses his super speed to change the past.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ tentpole summer release, “The Flash,” finally hits theaters this weekend, but the superhero movie had been beset by delays and off-screen controversies involving star Ezra Miller in the years before its release.
“The Flash” was initially revealed back in October 2014 as part of the inaugural DC Universe slate. It received a 2018 release date, alongside eventual releases like “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad,” “Wonder Woman,” “Aquaman” and “Shazam.” However, parts of that plan didn’t come to fruition. Standalone “Cyborg” and “Green Lantern” movies were scrapped, and a two-part “Justice League” movie by Zack Snyder became one film.
Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, first debuted as the Flash in a cameo in 2016’s “Batman v Superman” and “Suicide Squad,” before joining the cast of “Justice League” in 2017. Ahead of the solo “Flash” movie, their only other appearances as the hero were cameos...

“The Flash” serves as the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film, and sees Director Muschietti reunite with noted collaborator, two-time Grammy- and BAFTA-nominated composer Benjamin Wallfisch, who created all of the music found on The Flash (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Fans got an enthusiastic taste of the highly anticipated soundtrack over the past few weeks with the early release of 4 four tracks: “Worlds Collide”, “Run”, “I Am Batman” and “Sounds About Right, Bruce, and can now hear the entire, 43-track soundtrack, which is currently available for digital purchase and streaming, and available as a preorder for Triple LP, Two-Color Vinyl and Double CD.

Chicago – It amazes me to say it but with “The Flash” the DC cinematic universe has managed to actually make a movie that’s fun, for at least a little while. Even previously heralded DC movies like “Wonder Woman” left me cold with their incessant insistence on bludgeoning the audience with digital destruction.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The film starts off with a bang with Barry Allen/The Flash (Miller) being called in by Alfred to come in and clean up a bat-mess with a hospital maternity ward in danger of collapse. This opening scene strikes just the right tone injecting humor into the set piece, as The Flash races to recharge his energy levels by scarfing down vending machine snacks while saving infants and a hysterical maternity nurse during a baby shower.
The plot involves yet another multiverse adventure where Barry is still grieving the loss of his mother (Maribel Verdú) as a child.

As you can tell by the rising temps when you step outside, it’s really Summertime, and so it’s also superhero cinema season with a biggie speeding into the multiplexes this weekend. Oh, but hold your horses (or horsepower) we’re not diving back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (last month we took a possibly final space spin with those Galaxy Guardians). No, Warner Brothers is showcasing another possible franchise from their spandex stable at DC. We visited their “cinematic Universe’ a few months ago with Shazam! Fury Of The Gods (correction: few of you did as that sequel left a massive crater in the box office stats). Ah, but they’re hoping that this won’t be a repeat as one of DC’s most enduring heroes makes his solo big-screen debut. Really, he’s been a TV staple since 1967 (via Filmation cartoon shorts on CBS Saturday mornings...

It’s official: Andy Muschietti is going to the Batcave.
Ahead of the release of his superhero movie The Flash, Muschietti has decided to keep his feet firmly in the land of DC.
Muschietti finalized a deal to direct The Brave and the Bold, the feature project that will introduce a new big-screen version of Batman, one that will fit into the expansive universe being developed by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The involvement has been whispered about for several weeks. Muschietti, who has been on the Flash press tour, has been coy about his connection. But a deal was finally closed this week, according to a source, very conveniently timed to the opening of his movie.

When a franchise is being rebooted, it's usually boringly announced through a press release, and fans simply must accept that what's next will be part of a new overarching adventure disconnected from what came before. However, in perhaps unprecedented fashion, the Dceu had the opportunity to create a "narrative reboot" with The Flash movie, and this was the main reason why I was genuinely excited about one of the last movies of this cinematic universe – the next one will be called DC Universe (Dcu). Apart from that, the fact that director Andy Muschietti and screenwriter Christina Hodson were responsible for the film offered a certain assurance that the movie was in good hands. Once again, external situations affected the release of a blockbuster, so I need to emphasize the lack of impact these matters have on my reviews. In addition, I won't elaborate on spoilers, but consider anything that was...

After staying out of the limelight in the lead-up to The Flash, star Ezra Miller made a rare public appearance at the DC film’s premiere Monday, posing for photos and making brief remarks to the crowd in Hollywood.
“I love you, maestro. I think you are amazing, and I think your work is monumental,” Miller said, addressing director Andy Muschietti in their first public comments since August 2022. Last year, they cited “complex mental health issues” in a blanket apology for past behavior, which included trespassing and choking a woman in Iceland in an incident caught on video.

The upcoming superhero movie The Flash is based on the DC comics with the same name. It will be the 13th installment of the DC Extended Universe. The movie is directed by Andy Muschietti, and its script is written by Christina Hodson. The film will be about superhero Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller), who travels back in time to prevent his mother’s death. Naturally, that action spurs unforeseen consequences. The cinematic film feature was announced as early as 2014, however, the film is only hitting the big screens in the summer of 2023. This is due to many unpredicted delays.

In what amounts to the greatest irony in the history of the DC Extended Universe, one of the most troubled movies in the franchise has turned out to be one of its best. Nearly a decade after the film was first announced (with a 2018 release date) as part of the Dceu, and following a parade of directors and screenwriters, a pandemic, the slow-motion crash and burn of the DC cinematic universe as we know it, and the personal crash and burn of the film’s star, The Flash is finally arriving onscreen… And it’s a blast!

Critics reviews are in for “The Flash,” and the early word on the superhero film is quite strong as the film is being called “wildly fun,” the “best Dceu superhero movie yet,” and “a jewel in the Dcu canon.”
The film currently has a 72% Rotten Tomato score with 54 reviews.
Deadline’s Pete Hammond, who called the film “wildly fun,” added that “The hype is real. DC’s The Flash may not be the greatest comic book movie ever made, but it comes damn close. Easily the best in the genre since Spider-Man: No Way Home, this fresh, invigorating and hugely entertaining summer treat is as good as it gets when it comes to cinematic takes on superheroes.”

In comic-book movies, when it comes to a hero’s superpowers — flying, lifting objects, repelling bullets, the indomitability of a shield or a hammer — the audience is almost always on the outside looking in. But in “The Flash,” when the title character throttles forward at the speed of the hot-singe lightning streaks at his back, or floats through the air in slowed-down motion so that a mere second appears to last forever, the movie makes us part of the experience. Early on, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), a forensic chemist in the Central City Police Department, receives a call from Alfred (Jeremy Irons) — yes, that Alfred — letting him know that there’s an attack underway, and that none of the other Justice League members, notably Batman, is around to help. He’s the fastest man alive, able to sprint at superhuman speeds, vibrate his body through solid matter, generate electrical currents, and even disrupt the ebb and flow of time. On his own, this legendary superhero has consistently defeated boomerang-throwing bad guys, temperature-dropping supervillains, his own negative-image doppelgänger, and the toughest alpha simian in Gorilla City. As a key member of the Justice League, the man in the red ear-winged mask has helped saved the world several times over — not to mention propped up the CW network and added some much-needed levity to the Snyderverse.

The breathless buzz that followed Warner’s CinemaCon debut of The Flash in April made it sound as if director Andy Muschietti and screenwriter Christina Hodson had successfully orchestrated the second coming of the DC Extended Universe. Much of the advance publicity has focused on Ezra Miller’s string of controversies and legal issues, but the troubled star turns out to be the film’s chief asset, bringing humor, heart and a vulnerability not often seen in big-screen superheroes.
That Miller manages to make such a funny, fully dimensional impression as Barry Allen, better known as the Flash, is no mean feat given the movie’s slavish devotion to nostalgic fan service. While the actor’s claim on the...
