It’s a rare film that can find genuine joy in an office ice-breaker. We asked Sometimes I Think About Dying director Rachel Lambert how she did it.
Sometimes I Think About Dying stars Daisy Ridley like we’ve never seen her before.
Painfully introverted, lonely, and hemmed in by routine, Fran (Ridley) distracts herself from her office-prison by imagining all the ways she could die. She could crash her car. She could hang herself from a crane. She could meet the wrong kind of snake.
Pulling her out of her morbid reverie is a new co-worker, Robert (Dave Merheje). Playful Slack messages turn into a date at the cinema. A date at the cinema turns into an invite to a murder mystery party. Still, Fran stays closed off, struggling to break out of the comfort zone she’s occupied for so long.
It’s a melancholy, insightful look at...

Since her Star Wars trilogy ended, Daisy Ridley has largely ploughed herself into indie fare. She’s soon to be seen in morbid drama Sometimes I Think About Dying, and led Neil Burger’s psychological thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter – but next, she’s switching gears again. She’s the titular young woman of Young Woman And The Sea, which is a character-focused human drama – but not an indie film. No, it's a Disney production from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with Ridley playing Gertrude 'Trudy' Ederle – the 1920s American swimming champion who made it her mission to swim the English Channel. Check out the trailer here:
Anyone else feeling nippy just watching that? For all that Rey had Daisy Ridley leaping through Star Destroyer caverns and fighting for her life in snowy battlefields, this looks like a different kind of physical challenge – heading into the deep end (literally) for a tale of personal and psychological endurance.

Daisy Ridley‘s acting career since “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” has been, let’s say, uneven. Sure, “Sometimes I Think About Dying” is a provocative character study and a solid performance by the actress. But then there’s stuff Doug Liman‘s dismal “Chaos Walking” and “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” two films not exactly tailor-made for Ridley’s talents.

Disney has revealed an official trailer for their summer movie Young Woman and the Sea, based on the true story of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, an American woman who grew up in Manhattan and learned to swim in New Jersey. You know what I miss? Disney's inspirational true story dramas and sports movies. As easy and often valid as it is to poke holes in their predictable narrative structures and complain about them reducing even the most unbelievable real-life events to a cookie-cutter formula, we could do with some earnest, uplifting pictures about marginalized people defying the odds to realize their dreams right about now. We got some pretty good -- not to mention culturally sensitive -- ones in the '10s, too, including "McFarland, USA" and "Queen of Katwe." Sadly, however, modest to disappointing box office returns have since led to those types of offerings being relegated to streaming only (see also: the underappreciated Willem Dafoe adventure film "Togo").

Lucasfilm is finally getting back to making “Star Wars” films, tasking director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) to continue the Rey Skywalker journey in the tentatively titled “Star Wars: New Jedi Order.” Actress Daisy Ridley will obviously reprise her role from the sequel trilogy, and Empire Magazine recently spoke to the actress, who talked about “owning” the role and generally less trepidatious about the part and the expectations around it.

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want it right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. In fact,...

One year ago, at Star Wars Celebration, the news was confirmed: Daisy Ridley will officially be coming back to the galaxy far, far away, reprising the role of Rey in a film set 15-odd years after Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker, in which her hero will be establishing a New Jedi Order. In the intervening 12 months, the project has remained in its early stages, but Ridley herself has been awaiting her return to Star Wars – all while working on acclaimed smaller films like Sometimes I Think About Dying, and Young Woman And The Sea. Among it all, she’s feeling positive about what her Star Wars future holds.
As she tells Empire in a major new career-spanning interview – available in the upcoming The Acolyte issue – this time she’s “coming in a bit more eyes wide open” to the whole experience. “I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it.

THR reports that Beau Willimon is set to co-write the script for James Mangold’s Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.
Willimon is a playwright and screenwriter best known for developing House of Cards for Netflix, but he also has some Star Wars experience as he worked on the first season of Andor, writing three episodes of the critically acclaimed series. Every Star Wars film begins with that iconic line of text: a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars has quite a list of projects in the works currently, from Mangold’s new Star Wars film that takes place thousands of years in the past to Waititi’s undisclosed project that he claimed “will piss off the fans.’ Somewhere in the middle of this is a new Rey movie ‘Star Wars: Episode X’ with the current working title ‘New Jedi Order,’ which is rather connected to what the movie is supposed to be about.
A new Star Wars movie was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, focusing on Rey after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film follows Rey’s journey to rebuild the Jedi Order. Originally, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were set to write, but Steven Knight took over. The story is set 15 years after ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ exploring the post-war, post-First Order galaxy with the Jedi in disarray. Kathleen Kennedy shared that...

One of the breakout hits of SXSW 2024 was “Magpie,” a tense thriller that stars Daisy Ridley as a woman who begins to spiral after her young daughter is cast in a movie, and her husband becomes enamored with the actress playing her onscreen mother.
The neo-noir was a passion project for the actress and producer, who conceived the idea after forming a close bond with a child star playing her own onscreen daughter and began to imagine how a similar relationship could drive a wedge between a family. She took the idea to her husband Tom Bateman, who wrote the script that ultimately became “Magpie.” Hours after the film’s SXSW premiere, Ridley and her collaborators sat down with IndieWire to discuss crafting the film that gave her one of the meatiest roles of her career.

The Walt Disney Company is giving its investors a sense of the massive profits it has made off of the Star Wars and Marvel universes since that studio and Lucasfilm became part of Disney — and it’s more than one can shake a lightsaber at.
In a presentation posted to the shareholder campaign website Vote Disney, the House of Mouse included highlights of its success with franchises as the company is waging a proxy fight with activist investor Nelson Peltz.
Corporate intrigue aside, the presentation reveals some compelling numbers on the high-profile acquisitions Disney has made over the past 15 years. In a section titled “Enduring franchises highlight our powerful IP and unique monetization capabilities,” Disney indicates that it has seen a 2.9 times and 3.3 times return on investment after purchasing Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios in 2012 and 2009, respectively.
In 2012, Disney paid $4 billion for Lucasfilm, giving Disney ownership of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

For fans anxiously awaiting Lucasfilm's next big move after the divisive "The Rise of Skywalker" brought an uncertain end to "Star Wars" on the big screen, well, this next update only kind of clears things up.
"Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins once was the subject of a breathless announcement back in December of 2020, which revealed that she would be directing a "Star Wars" film about a squadron of X-wing pilots due out by the end of 2023. That obviously didn't end up happening, probably because the title was quietly removed from the studio's release schedule after months and months without a single update. We subsequently found out Jenkins' 'Star Wars" movie had been unceremoniously shelved, possibly in response to the poor reception to "Wonder Woman 1984," but maybe that was a bit premature. In a thoroughly unexpected surprise, this latest bit of news comes not from Lucasfilm itself, but from...

Somewhere in our lives, we have all wanted to find silence, even in the midst of a noisy crowd, or yearned to enjoy solitude when an excited group of friends has made us feel suffocated. Starring Daisy Ridley, Dave Merheje, and Marcia DeBonis and directed by Rachel Lambert, Sometimes I Think About Dying is a slice-of-life film that talks about relishing silence and solitude among a group of people in a very subtle way. The film revolves around Fran Larsen, who likes to think about death, but after meeting a new coworker in her office, she struggles to communicate with him about her likes and desires. Apart from the beautiful visuals, another attraction of this film is its complicated character work. Daisy Ridley gives one of those standout performances that slowly starts to grow on you as the film progresses.

Remember when we first met Din Djarin? He swaggers into that cantina in the first episode of The Mandalorian, takes down a few ruffians, and flies off with his quarry. No mess, no pomp, no big deal.
Those days now seem long gone, as what started out as a smaller-scale Western set in the world of Star Wars, between the Original and Sequel Trilogies, has now become the hope for the future of the franchise on the big screen. The characters will now be the focus of the next Star Wars movie. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently expected to release in 2026. Does this mean we won’t be seeing the beloved duo on screen at all until then? Or will a potential season 4 of the show bridge the gap on Disney+? It’s a question that has eluded Star Wars fans since the film project was first announced.

Daisy Ridley, known best as Rey in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, has had a pretty fascinating career outside of a galaxy far, far away. From narrating documentaries to failed YA sci-fi adaptations, she's certainly spread her wings. Later this year, Ridley will get the chance to lead a straight-up action flick called "Cleaner." It sounds like a riff on "Die Hard" from director Martin Campbell, who directed two of the greatest "James Bond" movies ever made. We may not even have a trailer yet, but it sounds very much like the film is going to live up to the promise of the talent involved.
The actor was on hand at this year's SXSW film festival in Austin, Texas, to promote her new movie "Magpie." During a panel, Ridley got to talking about some of her more physically demanding roles as of late, including the upcoming Disney drama "Young Woman and the Sea.

Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role of Rey for a new Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and the actress shared a few insights about the project while speaking with Deadline.
While Ridley said that she’s still waiting to read a script, she did say that she knows “bit and bobs,” including that there will be “an introduction of new characters.” When asked if any previous characters would be reprising their roles, such as John Boyega as Finn or Adam Driver as the ghost of Kylo Ren, Ridley said she didn’t know. Another character who fans might expect to see is Luke Skywalker, but Mark Hamill hasn’t heard anything. “Everything is confidential,” Hamill said. “So, If I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know.
