The mainstay of the Indian film industry has been its checkered history with a motley mix of religions, castes and regions headlining a wide cross-section of actors — some from a privileged background, others from the periphery — who lived in Bombay and contributed to its glory.
"Jubilee" spans an era that heralded new beginnings in Indian cinema, as the country cast off shackles of British rule. Focusing on an eventful period that presaged an independent cinema, the web series has many firsts to its credit: the reconstruction of imposing film studios headed by the original honchos; a closer look at the stars and star-wives; the spectacle surrounding the struggling actors and filmmakers; dreamers and aspirants amid the divide between the two central religions...

Jubilee
Lights, sound, camera… action! And here we go. At last, a series that encapsulates the genesis of Hindi cinema…the good, bad, and the ogling.
The fun part of Vikramaditya Motwane’s see-real is to spot who’s who and … my God, is this true??!!! Motwane’s writer Atul Sabharwal uses historical facts to create a kind of free-flowing fusion of fact and fantasy that is at once arresting and liberating.
From the silent era in the 1940s to the not-so-silent era when the Partition of 1947 tore the nation into two, Jubilee begins its comprehensive exhilarating journey by introducing us to the brooding maverick producer Srikant Roy, most meticulously modeled on the legendary Himanshu Rai. As played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, Roy is wily and mysterious, ambitious and nasty…It’s a brutal role played with tremendous understanding.
In comparison Aditya Roy Hydari as Roy’s wife Sumitra Devi (modeled...

“Chewing Gum”, from Mihir Fadnavis, features a strange man (Randeep Jha) tormented by an unearthly being on a trip through the city as he becomes increasingly aware of malicious forces chasing after him. This is a fairly fun and chilling short that gets the block off to a great start. The moody black-and-white cinematography from Pratik Shah adds immensely to the presentation, enhancing the shadows around him and keeping the suspense piling up with the strange creature following him almost entirely invisible as a result. The terrifying screeches, groans, and slurping sounds it emits are genuinely chilling, and add to the terrifying ordeal he experiences into the night. This segment can easily be stretched and expanded into a longer feature as the folklore and imagery provided here are top-notch.

Yeh Saali Aashiqui
Starring Vardhan Puri, Shivaleeka Oberoi
Directed by Cherag Ruparel
Yeh Saali Aashiqui is a film that chooses to stay many steps ahead of our expectations. For starters, one would hardly expect a debutant from a distinguished film family to start his career with a pitch-dark thriller where he is shown in far from flattering light.
But here he is, Vardhan Puri, consumed by a kind of death wish that comes to seasoned actors who are fearless in their quest for orginal and untried adventures. In his very first film Vardhan cracks it as Sahil a traumatized hotel –management recruit who looks for nothing but true love. He meets the devi from the Devil’s own private harem (newcomer Shivaleeka Oberoi).
What follows is a plot never seen before in Bollywood, as layer after layer of frightening psychological disorder, brutal betrayal and violent vindication are laid open in...
