Exclusive: After finding its new host in the returning Jon Stewart, The Daily Show is staffing up.
The Comedy Central series has signed up three new correspondents to its news team: Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt.
They are the first new correspondents to join the show in six years, since the arrival of Jaboukie Young-White, who joined in 2018 and left in 2021. The last new correspondent still on the show was Dulcé Sloan, who joined in September 2017 (Jordan Klepper returned in December 2019 having previously been featured on the show).
Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt joined the show in October 2023 and Johnson, who was previously a writer on the show, made his on-screen debut in February. The move to official correspondents just happened, despite being on the show for a few months.
They join Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Lewis Black, Klepper, and Sloan. However, the new trio will not be sharing...

Bill Burr was in the middle of a standup set in the original room at The Comedy Cellar when his cell phone rang: It was Jerry Seinfeld. What do you do? Burr answered.
Seinfeld wanted Burr to play JFK in his Pop-Tarts (fake) origin story, “Unfrosted.” Burr immediately accepted the role — and then went back to telling jokes to the paying customers.
It was the fastest (and the most public) “yes” that Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten say they got from a tremendous ensemble comedy cast that includes Seinfeld himself, as well as Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer — there’s honestly just too many to list. That wasn’t always the case.

Even toward the end of The Sympathizer’s six-month shoot, Hoa Xuande would still sometimes look out over the set in disbelief and think, “Am I really sitting here? Are they really letting me do this?”
“This” would be toplining HBO and A24’s limited series adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a communist North Vietnamese agent (known only as The Captain) embedded on the American-backed South Vietnamese side. It’s a dream role for any actor who relishes a challenge — multilayered, multilingual, packed with drama, comedy, sex and action — on a project with an impeccable pedigree. The seven-part series not only co-stars Robert Downey Jr. (who also executive produces) and Sandra Oh but counts legendary director Park Chan-wook as co-showrunner.

Just when you thought the scariest thing you could have on display in your home as a horror fan was replica dolls of Chucky and Tiffany from the "Child's Play" franchise, Neca, Blumhouse, and Universal have taken things a step further with a life-sized replica of everyone's favorite Sia-singing robot slasher, the titular "M3GAN." According to the doll's lore, the Model 3 Generative Android (M3GAN) was designed by a gifted toy inventor named Gemma (Allison Williams) from high-tech Seattle toy company Funki and crafted to be a parent's greatest ally and programmed to be a child's best friend.

Alas, despite the plethora of existing science-fiction movies warning us to be careful with highly advanced artificial technology, M3GAN became self-aware and went to extreme lengths to protect her owner and best friend, Cady (Violet McGraw), by any and all means necessary. The sci-fi horror film M3GAN (watch it Here) was a box office success when it was released last year, earning $181 million at the global box office on a budget of $12 million and spawning a sequel that is set to reach theatres in May of 2025. A lot of people had fun replicating the AI doll’s dance moves on TikTok… but how many people are such big fans of M3GAN that they’d be willing to spend $495 to buy a life-size replica of the doll? The collectible makers at Neca are about to find out, because they have created life-size replicas of M3GAN and are selling them for $494.99. You can check out the product page at This Link. M3GANs will start shipping out by the end of the year.

Cuddly Kung Fu master Po the Panda returns to the big screen for a fourth instalment of the animated action comedy franchise, eight years after Kung Fu Panda 3. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that the law of diminishing returns has very much kicked in, because while the film is entirely amiable, it doesn’t quite deliver the same punch, and frequently feels like it’s going through the motions.
The film begins in the Valley of Peace, where Po (Jack Black) is content with his life as the legendary Dragon Warrior, occasionally defeating the odd villain with his sweet kung-fu skills and using his standing in the community to open a tofu-and-noodle shop.

When it comes to Daily Show field pieces, most everyone can agree that Stephen Colbert was the master.
So when the master creates a ten point list for how to create a successful field piece, you better believe other Daily Show correspondents pay attention.
In fact, according to current Tds staffers Desi Lydic and Troy Iwata, Colbert’s tips have become required reading for all new Daily Show news team members.
In Monday’s episode of The Daily Show: Ears Edition podcast, Lydic described how an email Colbert once wrote to Rob Riggle has been passed down from one generation of Daily Show correspondents to another.
“Rob passed it along to Al Madrigal, and Al passed it along to Jordan [Klepper], who passed it to us,” Lydic explained to Iwata. “And then we passed it to you.”

Kung Fu Panda has become one of the most iconic animated series of all time. Although targeted at children, the films have found a huge viewership among adults. This is not surprising considering just how good the films are. Perfectly balancing comedy and story, they have created a world like no other. Not only does it have deeply fascinating power structures and dynamics, but it is one of the most beautiful worlds in animation.

After four weeks of handing over Tues-Thurs hosting duties to each of primary correspondents, The Daily Show is pairing two of them together this week with Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta set to share the desk.
It’s not the first time the show has tapped two correspondents to co-host, but this will be the first week-long co-hosting stint. (Both correspondents hosted solo over different weeks in February.)
Kosta and Lydic memorably appeared together in a piece for the show last November that poked fun at the rising prices (and shrinking content offerings) of streaming services.
The duo’s guests this week are set to include David Alan Grier on Wednesday and Renée Elise Goldsberry on Thursday. Their schedule guest on Tuesday is journalist Jane Marie, promoting her new book “Selling the Dream: The Billion-Dollar Industry Bankrupting Americans.”

Plot: Po (Jack Black) is ordered by Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) to train a new “Chosen One” so that he can take on a new role as Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace.
Review: Kung Fu Panda 4 is pretty standard fare for a new movie in a franchise that’s gone inactive. Watching Kung Fu Panda 4, I couldn’t help but think of Cars 3 or Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which were both “passing the torch” sequels that didn’t really work out that way. Cars 3 all but ended the franchise; while Ghost Protocol was so badass, people fell in love with Tom Cruise all over again, making the notion of him passing on his franchise to a would-be-successor (in that case Jeremy Renner) ludicrous. All that is to say Kung Fu Panda 4 does the usual thing for a long-awaited sequel, with the movie designed...

After conceding the race to now-presumptive nominee Donald Trump, Haley is now on the clock when it comes to whether or not she will endorse Trump, whom she has called “toxic and lacking “moral clarity.”
“America will never forget you… oooh, I wan’t to say Narky Stanley? Nibbly Snacky? Sticky Hale-Bopp?”
stephen colbert
“But I swear to God, if you turn around end endorse Trump I will… totally expect it.”
ronny Chieng
[After Haley waffled on whether she’d honor a Republican pledge to support the party’s presidential nominee, no matter who] “Why would anyone in the Republican Party give a damn about the GOP pledge when the guy who runs the GOP has never been bound by any pledge in his life.

There’s a running gag in Kung Fu Panda 4 about Po (Jack Black) needing to workshop more profound words of wisdom if he’s going to be a spiritual leader. It’s easy to read it as a meta commentary on the series itself wanting for more depth if it’s going to continue moving forward. The film is a good time, and it doesn’t exactly betray any of Kung Fu Panda’s strengths, but it also exhibits the telltale signs of a series struggling to justify its existence.
In fairness, the sense that Po’s talents might be better utilized elsewhere—like, say, in one of the three (!) Netflix cartoons based on the films—is baked into the plot here, with Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) telling Po that the time has come to choose a new Dragon Master so that he may spread enlightenment to the rest of his valley.

Animated film franchises have a way of making you feel old. When you watch live-action movie series featuring your favorite stars over a period of many years, the actors at least have the grace to age along with their audiences. But the characters in animated movies tend to always look the same, as demonstrated by Po, the hero of Kung Fu Panda 4. As still delightfully voiced by Jack Black, he’s exactly the same big, furry lug that he was in the original film, which came out in, gulp, 2008.
Well, he’s a little different. He’s now been the Dragon Warrior for so long that his mentor, Shifu (Dustin Hoffman, sounding more gravelly than ever), orders him to relinquish his title and assume the role of Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. Po, who’s preoccupied with starting his own noodle restaurant, resists at first, but ultimately...

Since its debut in 2008, DreamWorks’ kickass charmer Po, aka Kung Fu Panda, has racked up nearly $2 billion at the global box office over the course of three films, the most recent being eight years ago. A lot has changed in the world of animation in that time as well as in the life of Po, as witnessed by the storyline screenwriters have cooked up for this rich and energetic fourth entry into the franchise. Visually, this one tops them all, and pound for pound the whole movie from director Mike Mitchell, taking the helm of the Kfp series for the first time, is another winner bound to add to the impressive legacy of this lovable Chinese bear.
Plotwise, Po (again voiced by the inimitable Jack Black) has been content to be a successful Dragon Warrior vanquishing villains and seemingly with no further ambition. However, when Kung Fu Master Shifa (Dustin Hoffman...

Outside Los Angeles’ AMC Grove the afternoon of March 3, entertainment professionals and mall-goers alike were treated to a unique Hollywood spectacle as Jack Black, Bryan Cranston, Ke Huy Quan, Kyle Gass and more showed off their best martial arts moves on the “Kung Fu Panda 4” red carpet. Tenacious D’s cover of “…Baby One More Time,” which recently went viral on social media and is featured in the film’s end credits, played as bandmates Black and Gass shot scenes for the song’s forthcoming music video.
On the carpet, Black explained to reporters how the cover and video shoot came to be: “The director Mike [Mitchell] said, ‘Hey, we’d love to have a Tenacious D song at the end, will you do a song?’ And I was like, ‘Can we do Britney Spears?’ and he was like, ‘Yes,’ and he said that he wanted to do ‘…Hit Me...

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel, with M3GAN 2.0 being scheduled to reach theatres on January 17, 2025… but now the release plan has changed. Instead of trying to replicate the success the first film had in January, Universal Pictures has announced that they’re delaying M3GAN 2.0. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s release has been pushed back four months, to May 16, 2025.
Based on a story crafted by produced James Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The film has the following synopsis: She’s more than just a toy. She’s part of the family.

During The Daily Show segment “Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse” released Tuesday, correspondent Jordan Klepper headed to a Trump rally to ask supporters about presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s chances at the primary and the possibility of a Trump dictatorship, which the former president has alluded to and then later claimed he was kidding about it. To some Trump supporters, some of whom were dressed in American flag swim trunks and Maga caps, the answer rolled off their tongue.
One supporter suggested, “that’s what we need,” in reference to the dictatorship.

Roy Wood Jr. said on fellow comedian Mike Birbiglia’s “Working It Out” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) that he was going to remain on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” as a correspondent for more time when the plan was for Hasan Minhaj to be named the permanent new host. Wood surprised fans by announcing his “Daily Show” exit last October, a decision he told Birbiglia came after the plan to have Minhaj host the show “fell apart” amid controversy over an interview Minhaj did with The New Yorker.
“That’s literally why everything fell apart,” Wood said about the interview, which revealed that Minhaj had embellished many “true stories” in his stand-up acts. “As far as I was told, Hasan was going to be the guy.”

“Welcome to The Daily Show, my name is Jon Stewart.”
The comedian kicked off his return to the Comedy Central and he’s jazzed.
“Now where was I? I’m excited to be back. Why am I back, you may be asking yourselves, it’s a very reasonable question. I have committed a lot of crimes and from what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders,” he added.
Stewart was returning to the franchise that he turned around, ostensibly replacing Trevor Noah, who left over a year ago, with a few celebrity guest hosts helping out in between.
He kicked off the show as he always used to, with some good-natured political ribbing. He also managed to get another jibe at Apple, which canceled his previous show The Problem with Jon Stewart because of...

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday, and within three minutes was already going after Donald Trump — but also Joe Biden, taking a critical look at the president’s apparent age-related issues.
Announcing “Indecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,” Stewart dove right into special counsel Robert Hur’s report that exonerated President Biden on the matter of mishandling classified documents while also seemingly torpedoing his re-election efforts with its harsh description of Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. Stewart showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and likewise not being able to recall some basic facts. “It turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,” said Stewart, slipping seemingly effortlessly back into the role of the show’s host (monologue video below).

As Jon Stewart readies himself to return to The Daily Show, the comedian, entertainment news host, and activist wants to open up about why Apple TV+ canceled his show, The Problem With Jon Stweart, ahead of election season. Speaking with CBS Mornings, Stewart says Apple ended his series after two seasons out of fear he’d say something that would land him in trouble. While Stewart is used to being a target of judgment and ridicule, Apple TV+ hopes to keep their noses clean and free from backlash, especially with a heated political battle looming on the horizon.
“I wanted a place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season,” Stewart said. “I thought I was going to do it over at — they call it Apple TV+. It’s a television enclave, very small. It’s like living in Malibu. But they decided … they felt that they didn...

Stewart, who will host Monday nights on Comedy Central through the presidential election, said he “very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season.”

“But as far as influence … just about everything I had wanted to happen over the 16 years that I was at The Daily Show did not happen, if you were hoping for influence,” he said.

The night is always darkest before the dawn (or so they say), and just when it seemed like all hope was lost ... a hero made his dramatic, last-minute return. Okay, today's news isn't quite on the level of Christian Bale's Batman coming out of self-imposed retirement in "The Dark Knight Rises" or a bearded Cap stepping out of the shadows in "Avengers: Infinity War," but we'll take what we can at this point. Jon Stewart, everyone's favorite talk show host and political humorist, is making his grand -- and rather unexpected -- return to hosting duties on "The Daily Show" just in time for the upcoming American presidential election.

Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show. After a yearlong search for Trevor Noah’s replacement, the longtime host and Noah’s predecessor has agreed to return on Monday nights through the 2024 election.
The new setup, a major coup for the show and for parent company Paramount, is set to begin Feb. 12. For the remainder of the week, the Comedy Central series will rely on a team of correspondents, which are likely to include Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. Stewart, who spent 16 years at the show, the majority of them Emmy-winning, will be heavily involved as an executive producer on the other nights as well. The move comes after Stewart prematurely exited his Apple TV+ show, The Problem, following creative differences between the iPhone maker and its host over potential topics and guests.

After holding a year-long bake-off among various celebrities to find the next host of its signature “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central is going to try a new recipe.

Exclusive: The Daily Show was a surprise winner at the Emmys on Monday night.
The Comedy Central series won the award for Outstanding Talk Series for Trevor Noah’s final season, an emotional end to his seven-year run. Many expected Stephen Colbert to win for The Late Show or Jimmy Kimmel Live! but it was Noah that picked up the award, becoming the first Black man to lead a show to victory in the category.
Afterwards, a number of questions were directed towards Noah and the team about the future of The Daily Show, a fair ask given that it has now been over a year since Noah left the show.
Deadline understands that over the next few months, the focus will be on its correspondents to lead the show through this election year, rather than another phalanx of celebrity guest hosts.
