Naomi and her daughter Wynonna Judd, along with Ray Charles, Eddie Bayers and Pete Drake were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, one day after Naomi Judd died.
In a statement made to AP, the family told the outlet that Naomi Judd died due to “the disease of mental illness. the statement read. “We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”
According to Twincities.com, tears were shed at the ceremony as Naomi was scheduled to be in attendance, but while the show still went on, her fellow musicians mourned her absence.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum will continue with its medallion ceremony on Sunday, May 1st in Nashville following news of the death of country music icon Naomi Judd, who, along with her daughter Wynonna, was set to be inducted as The Judds.
According to a Country Music Hall of Fame rep, Wynonna Judd is expected to attend the induction ceremony.
CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Kyle Young, said in a statement provided to Billboard that the Judd family requested the ceremony to carry on in light of Naomi’s passing.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Naomi Judd, who enters the Country Music Hall of Fame tomorrow as a member of mother-daughter duo The Judds…Naomi overcame incredible adversity on her way to a significant place in music history. Her triumphant life story overshadows today’s tragic news.

The mother and daughter duo the Judds will be inducted as Modern Era artists, legendary soul vocalist and piano player Ray Charles will be enshrined in the Veteran category, and drummer Eddie Bayers and pedal-steel player Pete Drake enter in the Recording and/or Touring Musician field. The Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum, which recognizes the contributions of performers, producers and others in rock & roll, country music and beyond, has announced its 2019 class of inductees. Alabama and Steve Wariner represent the country field, in addition to legendary producers Billy Sherrill and Owen Bradley.
