Film Bazaar host nation India and Spain are seeking to improve ties in the film and TV industries.
Delegations from both countries last week signed a three-way memorandum intended to boost production and assist filmmakers. The deal was signed by the Producers Guild of India, the Spain Film Commission and Casa de la India.
“The association will help Indian producers – across film, television and digital content – to access the best of equipment, talent, facilities, locations, incentives and government support when shooting in Spain,” said the Pgi on Friday.
The two countries have an audiovisual co-production treaty that was signed in 2012. But the Nfdc’s Film Facilitation Office website shows no example of it being used for a feature film. A seminar will be held at Film Bazaar on Monday on the future of Spain-India co-productions.

A filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) on Oct. 22 reveals that the deal for the two companies is in the form of a total of 102 million in cash and 38 million in investment, spread over four tranches.

Imac, set up to target the Indian media industry, raised more than 200 million through an IPO on the Nasdaq exchange in 2021. It also attracted a galaxy of Indian entertainment industry heavyweights as backers.

When Yash Raj Films’ Shamshera opens at the Indian box office tomorrow, all eyes in Mumbai’s Hindi-language film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, will be closely watching the release.
With a big star, Ranbir Kapoor, major studio and reported 20M budget behind it, hopes are high that the period action film will signal a recovery for Bollywood, which has had an underwhelming first half of 2022.
While a few Hindi films have performed well this year – The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi and most recently horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 – an alarming number of titles with big stars and high expectations have flopped, despite the fact that Indian cinemas have been open with no Covid restrictions for several months.
Adding insult to injury, films from the South Indian film industries, made in other languages – most notably Kannada-language K.G.F.: Chapter 2 and Telugu-language Rrr – have been breaking box office records in India and overseas.

Special purpose acquisition companies—known as SPACs—have been all the rage in the world of investment for the last two years, and they’ve made a mark in the media space, but is the trend slowing down?
Known as ‘blank check companies’, SPACs are publicly traded investment vehicles that raise capital solely to acquire existing companies. They are often fronted by a well-known figure and are seen as a simpler alternative to going public via an IPO. They can also provide everyman investors with an opportunity to tap into the high growth that some companies experience in their early years. At the same time, of course, a disappointing debut can register significant losses.
In some instances, SPACs will be announced with specific investment targets in mind, like when Virgin Galactic completed a successful Spac merger in 2019 and launched a trend of similar endeavours across the past two years. On other occasions,...

The year 2021 was the year of Squid Game.
If one piece of content caught the zeitgeist on the world stage over the last 12 months it was Netflix’s Korean-language Battle Royale-style capitalism satire.
According to the streamer, the show smashed previous records to become Netflix’s most-watched title of all time, racking up a mighty 1.65 billion viewing hours in 28 days following its premiere in September.
Even if you’re not convinced by the metrics Netflix uses to reach some of its numbers, the show’s permeation of popular culture was tangible. Halloween was the perfect example of the phenomenon, with seemingly every group photo on social media prominently featuring a pink jumpsuit-sporting cosplayer. The costumes were so popular that some schools in New York banned them over fears they could glorify violence.

The global vaccine rollout is reason to finally believe there could be an end to this pandemic, but it’s evident the recovery process is going to be gradual and slow. Ahead of the curve, however, appears to be India.
Back in September, the country’s virus situation looked to be spiraling out of control, with nearly 100,000 cases being recorded daily, the highest rate in the world. Flash forward four months and the situation is a stark contrast – this week fewer than 10,000 cases were report on certain days, about half that of the UK and less than some U.S. states.
The reasons for this remarkable recovery are wide-reaching, and are being studied in detail by the global scientific community, but a degree of herd immunity and a wide presence of antibodies is being cited as key. In response, the government is re-opening the economy to pre-pandemic levels, including the beloved big screen business.

Hrithik Roshan-starrer "Super 30" has a new release date, finally. It will hit the screens on July 12.
"Super 30" had earlier landed in a clash with actress Kangana Ranaut's "Mental Hai Kya" on July 26, but Hrithik urged the makers of his film to shift its release date to avoid a "media circus".
Shibasish Sarkar, Group CEO, Reliance Entertainment, which has backed the film, tweeted: "'Super 30' now on July 12, 2019."
The film has been getting delayed for one reason or another.
Earlier, "Super 30" was to release on January 25, the same date as Kangana's "Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi".
But "Super 30", based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar who trains students for Iit-jee in Bihar, did not see the light of the day on that date due to pending production work after director Vikas Bahl was named in the #MeToo movement.
Later, it was rescheduled for a July 26 release.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has come on board to present the Hindi version of the Tamil-Telugu film "Game Over", starring Taapsee Pannu
"I am very kicked about presenting this game-changing film in Hindi. This film proves yet again that the quality of filmmaking from the south is just outstanding and it's great to see how Ashwin Saravanan (director) has pushed the boundaries and has made a genre-bending film, something that we all have never seen before," Kashyap said in a statement.
The film marks Taapsee's return to the Tamil film industry. She had earlier featured in "Aadukalam" and "Vandhaan Vendraan".
The upcoming film is a thriller that unfolds inside a house.
"For whatever little trust I have built in my audience for my choice of films. I am very confident that I will strengthen the belief further with 'Game Over'," she said.
The film is being produced by Y Not Studios and Reliance Entertainment.

The box office is witnessing wonders from fresh talents. But among the 'kings', some factors set Akshay Kumar apart as the real 'khiladi'. What makes Akshay's box office journey different from other Bollywood superstars is his consistency to hit silver screen with several movies a year and draw in the audience. According to Shibasish Sarkar of Reliance Entertainment, which will distribute Akshay's upcoming film "Sooryavanshi", it's the actor's "tremendous discipline, his lifestyle and rigour of keeping churning out three-four films a year" that make him a box office 'khiladi'.
"Of course, he has talent, understanding of the market and everything. But this would not have been possible without the discipline he maintains," Sarkar, Reliance Entertainment's Group CEO, told Ians.
For the production, exhibition and distribution sectors, the 51-year-old's films are a win-win all the way, says film and trade expert Girish Johar.
