From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.
After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.
But the show must go on — and it did so in spectacular fashion with horror icon Linnea Quigley sitting down for a live interview, while the Hocus Pocus screening was replaced by The People’s Joker, previously scheduled to be the festival’s closing film.

Music artist Lizzo (real name: Melissa Viviane Jefferson) is one of the most influential artists who rose to fame with the release of her third studio album in 2019: Cuz I Love You. The artist’s 2017 single Truth Hurts became a sleeper hit two years after its release and topped the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming the longest-leading solo by a female rapper.
The artist, due to her weight, has been the subject of constant trolling online, but she decided to use the opportunity and advocate for plus-size women, and she has faced a lot of challenges in doing so. She has expressed over the years how she feels constantly dragged down just because she doesn’t fit in the standards of an ideal woman body type. The last couple of months haven’t been as smooth for the artist as she would have liked, and her recent statement has forced...

Forced to wage a savage war against his former employer, Quigley proves that no one gets the best of a steely-eyed gunfighter — no one,...

The lawsuit alleging Lizzo harassed a trio of backup dancers had its first major court hearing Wednesday, with lawyers on both sides sparring over allegations the singer created a hostile work environment on tour.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Epstein declined to issue an immediate ruling on Lizzo’s motion to spike the complaint due to her right to free speech, but his barrage of questions suggested he’ll uphold at least some of the nine causes of action filed in August. Best known for her roles in ’80s classics like The Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons, and Silent Night, Deadly Night, actress Linnea Quigley has over 170 screen acting credits to her name – and sadly, some of the movies she has worked on have slipped through the cracks over the decades. Last year, Visual Vengeance gave the Quigley film Heartland of Darkness – which was shot in 1989, then got “lost in obscurity and distribution false starts” for over thirty years – a Blu-ray release. Now they’re set to do the same for another lost Quigley project, Scream Queen. They’re bringing this one to Blu-ray on November 28th, and copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.
As Visual Vengeance explains, “This super obscurity was shot in 1998 by indie horror stalwart Brad Sykes, and finally finished in 2002. Considered a ‘lost’ Linnea Quigley movie, Scream Queen is not only a solid...

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, 1988’s Night of the Demons is a perfect Halloween party movie; not merely because the plot involves a Halloween party, but it embodies the spirit of the holiday.
Director Kevin Tenney (Witchboard) and writer Joe Augustyn veer between creepy and campy throughout the 90-minute runtime. A playfully spooky atmosphere is immediately established by the Scooby Doo-esque animated credit sequence set to a bombastic synth theme by the director’s brother, Dennis Michael Tenney.
The plot follows a group of rowdy high schoolers to a deadly party at the infamous Hull House. As goth hostess Angela Franklin (Amelia Kinkade) explains, the abandoned abode is possessed rather than haunted: “The spirits living in a house possessed never existed in human form. They’ve only existed in spirit form. They’re pure evil. They’re demons.” A seance awakens the spirits, who start turning the partygoers into savage demons.

Six months before three dancers sued Lizzo for sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, 14 other dancers who worked with the singer received a separate settlement in connection to her 2022 documentary Love, Lizzo, the Los Angeles Times reports.
At issue was a five-minute clip from the HBO Max documentary featuring intimate footage that the dancers claim was used without their knowledge or consent, per the report. Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison took to social media on Tuesday to share her alleged experiences with the 35-year-old musician while briefly working on her documentary.

Calling the situation “s***ty,” Allison added, “My spirit said to run as fast as you f**king can and I’m so grateful I trusted my gut. I felt gas lit and was deeply hurt,...

Lizzo is being sued by three of her former dancers on multiple counts, including sexual harassment and creating hostile working conditions.
The three defendants named in the lawsuit are Lizzo, dance captain Shirlene Quigley and Lizzo’s production company Big Grrrl Big Touring (Bgbt). This suit makes additional allegations of racial harassment, false imprisonment, religious harassment and interference with economic advantages.
They are accusing the singer of pointing out one of the dancer’s weight gain and firing them, even though she is known for her body positivity stance. The comments about the dancer were allegedly made at the South by Southwest music festival after the group performed. Three former dancers for Grammy-winning singer Lizzo have accused her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile workplace in a lawsuit filed Tuesday. Among the allegations, one of the dancers accuses Lizzo of pressuring her to touch a nude performer at an Amsterdam club.
Lizzo is a performer known for her embrace of body positivity. However, the plaintiffs accuse the singer of berating a dancer for her weight gain, then later firing the dancer for recording a meeting due to a health condition.
The plaintiffs include Arianna Davis, and Crystal Williams who began their stint performing with Lizzo after competing on her reality show “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” in 2021. The third plaintiff, Noelle Rodriguez, was also hired in 2021, after performing in a Lizzo music video. Davis and Williams were fired and Rodriguez resigned earlier this year.

Lizzo has been sued by a trio of her former touring dancers for sexual harassment, assault, discrimination and fostering a “hostile work environment.”
In a broad complaint for unspecified damages filed Tuesday morning in Los Angeles Superior Court, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez also allege that they were body-shamed, put through a self-described “excruciating” audition for their own jobs after they were accused of drinking on the clock, and held to prohibitive “soft hold” retainers. Naming four-time Grammy winner Lizzo herself (aka) Melissa Jefferson, plus Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. and Shirlene Quigley, the head of the performer’s dance team, the suit (read it here) vividly describes the dancers being forced to attend and participate in sex shows while on tour, having their virginity mocked, being subject to religious diatribes as well as a case of “false imprisonment.”
