Kabir Mehta is an international award winning film director and screenwriter.
Mehta directed season 1 of 'Class' - a Netflix original series, which revolves around the relationships between three working-class students enrolled through a scholarship program at a scandalous elite high school. 'Class', an official adaptation of the Spanish series 'Elite', was the # 1 show in India for 8 weeks as well as in the top 10 of various foreign territories.
His first feature 'Buddha.mov', a non-fiction hybrid about a flamboyant real-life pro-cricketer who starts authorising unrestricted access into the most private parts of his life from racing sports-cars to having sex with supermodels - premiered at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, followed by an Indian Premiere at Mumbai film festival and had successful run on the international festival circuit. The independent film garnered critical acclaim in international media, with great reviews in publications like The Hollywood Reporter, which called the film, "Racy, revealing and hilariously deadpan!"; and also in the Indian media, leading to Film Companion naming Kabir Mehta as one of the top disrupters in Indian entertainment in 2019. The film was released globally on Mubi.
His first short 'Sadhu In Bombay', a gritty mockumentary style portrait of man with ascetic origins who is radically transformed by city life, premiered at Slamdance Film Festival and won multiple awards including best film at Ann Arbor FF, European Media Art Festival & Mammoth Lakes FF. The film was released on Mubi as well as The Slamdance Channel. Other short films have screened at Chicago Underground, Winterthur, Kassel Dokfest, New Orleans, Dharamshala and many other prestigious film festivals.
Mehta is an alumni of The Lawrence School, Sanawar and a graduate from the University of Delhi.
