The recently released track ‘Mallaah’ (Boatman) by the band Agnee, which is known for the song ‘Aahatein’, was initially created to be a romantic ballad but lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya turned it into a philosophical song with his words. Koco of Agnee made the revelation as he recollected the journey of the song.
‘Mallaah’ takes listeners on a journey of self-discovery and introspection. It captures the quintessential Agnee sound combined with Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrical genius. The song uses metaphors of the Mallaah, representing a protector, a saviour and a confidante.
Speaking about the song, Koco said: “Initially, when the song was being made, I came up with the dummy word Saiyyaan and the song was a romantic ballad. But when Amitabh came in, he took the song in a completely different direction with Mallaah and it turned into a philosophical song. Hrishi and Chirayu also insisted on playing on the...

2015 proved to be a relatively good year for Bollywood music. We had a diverse range of albums from the fun and happy soundtrack of Bajrangi Bhaijaan to the ultra traditional Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. This has naturally made it difficult for us to keep our list of songs to just 25, hence we have a bumper list of 50 songs for you! Check out our list below and don’t forget to tell us which songs are your favourite from last year!

With Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti, expectations are high for Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy to deliver another great soundtrack since the melodious gem of D-Day. It’s a big release for Imran Khan, who’s come back after his paternity leave and Kangana Ranaut, who’s following up the critical acclaim of Queen. Since it’s Advani’s second film of the month, we can be assured that Katti Batti will be a better soundtrack than the formulaic songs of Hero. The songs on this album are immediately catchy whether it’s the clubby Sarfira, or the cheeky Lip to Lip, there’s a song for everyone to enjoy.
First off, we have Sarfira, which immediately has you wanting to groove the night away. The production mixes the typical electronic style with dub-step beats, but it’s the chorus that is instantly addictive. Siddharth Mahadevan is fast becoming one of my favourite playback singers,...

Kangana Ranaut is making a big splash with her film Queen where she plays the vivacious character Rani, who ventures out on her honeymoon in Paris by herself. Already the promos have been creating some buzz for Vikas Bahl’s debut film for it’s fun storyline, Kangana’s charm, and of course that characteristic Amit Trivedi sound. This is the first soundtrack of the year for Trivedi, who creates a familiar breed of innovative and breezy songs that completely fit with that carpe-diem attitude of the film.
Initially, London Thumakda, sounded like a familiar riff of ‘Farukha Baadi’ from Trivedi’s other album Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, however he manages to make this one a gem to listen to. Labh Janjua is in fine form with sisters Sonu and Neha Kakkar lending him ample support with their backing verses. Janjua and Trivedi are a fabulous pair, since Trivedi...

Lootera promises to be the epic period romance of 2013 and we cannot wait until July 5th to see the movie starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. We have loved every track that Amit Trivedi composed for the film and one of our favorites is ‘Shikayatein’ sung beyond brilliantly by Mohan Kanan and Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Check out the beautiful jodi of Pakhi and Varun!

Lootera is the upcoming period romance from director Vikramaditya Motwani (Udaan) and stars Raveer Singh (Band Baaja Baraat) and Sonakshi Sinha (Dabangg) in pivotal roles. Amit Trivedi (Dev D and Ishaqzaade) has composed the 6-track original soundtrack for the film as well as the background score while Amitabh Bhattacharya (Band Baaja Baraat and Agneepath) has penned the lyrics. Vocal talents featured are that of Shilpa Rao (English Vinglish – Title Track), Monali Thakur (‘Khwab Dekhe/Sexy lady’ and ‘Zara Zara Touch Me’ – Race), Swanand Kirkire (‘Raat Hamari Toh’ – Parineeta), Mohan Kanan (‘Yaariyan’ – Cocktail) with Amit Trivedi (Aisha – Title Track) and Amitabh Bhattacharya (‘Iktara’ – Wake Up Sid). Selected tracks also feature the Chennai String Orchestra.
Lootera hits the silver screens 5 July 2013.
Ankahee could not have been a better track to commence the album. It is the album’s once-upon-a-time and tells of a untold story. Amitabh Bhattacharya beautifully renders the equally well written track.

Film: "Lootera"; Composer: Amit Trivedi; Singers: Monali Thakur, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Mohan Kanan, Swanand Kirkire, Amit Trivedi, and Shilpa Rao; Rating: ***1/2
The music of director Vikramaditya Motwane's "Lootera" is like a breath of fresh air. With six tracks in its kitty, the album has been composed by Amit Trivedi with time and patience. Not for once does the music go out of tune.
"Sawaar loon" opens the album. Sung by Monali Thakur, the song becomes more interesting as it progresses. Melodious and rhythmic, it talks about a girl's dreams. The composer tries to break away from the usual music by using a lot of different instruments. The lyrics weave a melodious story.
Next is "Ankahee", sung by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Looking back at 2012 song-ically, it certainly was a year of cool sounds, new voices, groovy and groovin’ beats and over all some killer tracks. Many of the songs brought a new vibe to the music of the movies, songs flavored with new influences, and songs that we never would have thought we would hear in a Bollywood flick. There were classic beats that got us up and dancing not to mention the grooves of today that got us to move to the music. We met some new singers we can’t wait to hear more of and some of our favorites blew us away with outstanding vocals. 2012 was full of surprises and we enjoyed so many of them, 50 in fact and every single note! As always we loved these songs when they first came out but once we saw them in the movie we loved them even more! Check out...
