This article contains spoilers for both Alien: Romulus and Alien: Isolation.
It’s a green, blinking box. Yet every time it appeared in the background of Alien: Romulus, a cold chill went down the spines of possibly millions of viewers, including this writer. That’s because if you ever played Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly’s relentless survival horror game from 2014, those proverbial telephone boxes are the stuff of nightmares and lingering trauma.
Appearing in more than one scene during Fede Alvarez’s love letter to the larger Alien franchise, these “registration points,” or emergency telephone booths, are littered throughout the Renaissance Space Station in Alien: Romulus. You can see one in a scene where Cailee Spaeny’s Rain and Archie Renaux’s Tyler discuss how best to circumnavigate a hallway filled with facehuggers. The emergency comm-links also appear when Andy (David Jonsson) explains to the humans that they’re going to need pulse rifles.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Alien: Romulus."
Despite being around for 45 years, the Xenomorph and the "Alien" franchise have never completely lost its unique quality. Instead of an endless glut of sequels, remakes, reboots, and other assorted franchise-exhausting traps that have happened to many other great series, "Alien" has always been treated with a degree of respect. The film series is remarkably filmmaker-driven, with each successive director bringing their own sensibilities and interests to their installments without worry about some rigid narrative canon or house style. The Alien is a mutating, consistently surprising organism, and the franchise has been allowed to change along with it.
This idea-first approach has extended to the franchise's tie-in material, be it novels like "Aliens: Original Sin" or video games like "Alien: Isolation." That game in particular was initially rumored to be a large influence on the latest cinematic iteration of the Xenomorph: Fede Alvarez's "Alien: Romulus.

Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has talked about the influence of 2014 videogame Alien: Isolation on his upcoming movie.
A truly frightening survival horror game, Alien: Isolation, developed by Creative Assembly and released in 2014, is also one of the best Alien games ever made. It sounds as though Alien: Romulus director, Fede Alvarez is also a fan, with the filmmaker recently revealing on the Total Film podcast that the game was a direct inspiration for his upcoming entry in the film saga.
Set 15 years after Alien, Isolation introduced Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen, hunting through a space station called the Sevastapol. Hunting for her mother, Amanda instead encounters a familiar monster. Framed in a limiting first-person perspective, players were forced to run and hide from the fearsome creature, with the ingenious twist being that its appearances weren’t pre-scripted – it could turn up anywhere and at almost any time. It's been nearly seven years since Ridley Scott returned to the "Alien" franchise with the ever-divisive "Alien: Covenant." While we may not be getting a sequel to that film, Disney and 20th Century Studios are bringing the Xenomorphs back for another big-screen thrill ride in the form of this summer's "Alien: Romulus." Directed by Fede Alvarez, it looks like a return to the franchise's horror roots with new characters, a new ship, and familiar threats.
Alvarez recently spoke with Variety in honor of the recently released "Alien: Romulus" teaser trailer. The filmmaker was asked what he is bringing to the table for his film, which takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1979 sci-fi/horror classic. Alvarez, much like Ridley Scott and James Cameron before him, has a unique view of this universe. But his main goal? Make "Alien" scary again:

Alien: Isolation is a special game; every single element of it works. Even in wireframe, without the Alien-themed coat of paint, it makes for a completely satisfying gameplay experience. If you had a different styling to it, the world would still feel fully realized and fun to navigate. The tension of being stalked by a relentless predator would be amazing even if it wasn’t the much-beloved Xenomorph. This all coalesces into a great experience that is only elevated by setting it in a perfect rendition of the Alien Universe.
Many other games have been set in this world, but they often don’t capture the soul of the franchise in the way that Isolation does. The ones that find success usually do so by adopting the tone of Aliens rather than Alien. The faster, more action-packed style is more conducive to the medium of video games, giving you...

There’s a new game set in the Alien universe cresting over the horizon. So it seems like it may be a good time to look back at another game, and one of the best pieces of media from the franchise, Alien: Isolation.
Alien: Isolation was released in 2014, to a rightfully apprehensive audience after the previous game, Colonial Marines, had tanked most people’s hopes for good games set in the Alien universe. As it turned out, however, Alien: Isolation not only ended up becoming quite possibly the best game of the Alien franchise but one of the best Survival Horror games of all time.
The experience of playing Alien: Isolation is like no other, this is because it understands what made Alien the film work and seeks to recreate that. It’s an excellent example of how everything comes together in games to provide a certain experience. Everything from the art direction,...

When Alien: Isolation was originally release, hot on the heels of the much-derided Alien: Colonial Marines, not much was expected of the game. However something happened… the hands-on previews and reviews came out and the game was getting positive feedback. In fact the game was so well received that now, some 5 years later, Sega and Feral Interactive have seen fit to port the game to the Nintendo Switch.

As a fan of the game, I like what they did here by turning it into a standalone series that tells the story of Amanda Ripley’s journey.

This Alien: Isolation web series will closely follow the events of the game.
In a surprising turn of events, it seems that IGN has landed the rights to the rumored series based on the 2014 game, Alien: Isolation.
According to a statement released by IGN, this series will expand upon the plot of the original game. For those that may have never gotten the chance to play it (you really should) that game followed the adventures of Amanda Ripley (daughter of Alien protagonist Ellen Ripley) as she attempts to discover what happened to her mother some 15 years after the events of the original film. As you might imagine, her journey forces her to face off against the same aliens that her mother fought as well as some other threats that will be familiar to franchise fans.

Alien: Blackout is an excellent new mobile game set in the Alien universe. Check out our review!
Release Date: January 24, 2019
Platform: iOS (reviewed), Android
Developer: Rival Games & Theory Interactive
Publisher: FoxNext Games & D3 Go!
Genre: Survival Horror
It’s safe to say that just about no one expected the follow-up to Alien: Isolation to be a mobile game inspired by the Five Nights At Freddy’s puzzle-horror formula, but that’s exactly what developers Rival Games and Theory Interactive bring us in Alien: Blackout. It’s easy to dismiss mobile games or view them as a downgrade from console experiences, but this $5 sequel is worth every penny and then some, with engaging gameplay, atmospheric presentation, spot-on voice acting, and just enough scares to do right by the franchise.

Earlier this month, we reported that Alien: Blackout (a standalone title and not a sequel to Alien: Isolation) would make its way to your mobile phones, thanks to FoxNext Games and D3 Go!, later this year. It was also announced, at that time, that Amanda Ripley would be returning to bring down yet another Xenomorph stowaway. With the release of said game, the developers have decided to release a launch trailer that reveals how you'll need some quick-thinking and master-class stealth skills to save the crew of the Weyland-Yutani space station and eliminate one of the fiercest creatures in movie and video game-kind.

An ingenious mod has brought the Alien universe into Monster Hunter: World. Check out the video here...
Ah, here we go. You've got to love a good bit of modding, especially when it results in fandoms and franchises being mashed together in fresh and exciting ways. We've been spoiled in this regard of late, with classic Nintendo levels added to Super Mario Odyssey by one modder and a Cthulhu quest added to Skyrim by another. And now, a mod has emerged that will please moviegoers and gamers alike.
A PC-based modder by the moniker of UberGrainy has added the Xenomorph Queen (which debuted in the Alien film franchise with James Cameron's Aliens) into Capcom's action RPG title Monster Hunter: World. The mod was made by cosmetically swapping out the model for the final boss, the Elder Dragon Xeno'jiiva, with a newly made Alien Queen model.

First, the official Alien Instagram account released a series of “dossiers” that detailed illegal activities in labs owned by Weyland-Yutani Corp, all stamped with the hashtag #AmandaRipley. Next came a mysterious video via Twitter, one that had Amanda Ripley’s name all over it, ending with the words: “Read. Play. Watch.” Since then, speculation has run […] The post Let’s Get a Handle on All of These Alien Game/Movie Rumors about Amanda Ripley appeared first on Dread Central.

It’s now been almost 33 years since the release of James Cameron’s Aliens, and in all that time, the Alien franchise has yet to deliver another movie where the reception from fans and critics was better than mixed. Nonetheless, the demand for more films is still out there, and with the announcement of the new mobile game Alien: Blackout, many were hoping that this was just the beginning of a resurgence for the franchise.
Sadly, this doesn’t appear to be the case, with FoxNext’s vice president of external development Tq Jefferson telling Variety that Blackout is just a one-off.
“[The slogan] ReadWatchPlay is referring to individual entries for each one,” Jefferson said. “It’s exploring different elements of Amanda Ripley’s saga. Alien: Blackout is a standalone premium mobile game. It’s not promotional for any other component of the Alien franchise. The slogan is the rallying cry for...

There’s a new mobile game based on the Alien franchise coming out called Alien: Blackout and today we have the first trailer and details for it for you to check out.
The new game explores the time where Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley is still in cryo-sleep during the 57 year period between Alien and Aliens. Like in 2014’s Alien: Isolation, the new game will feature Ripley’s daughter, Amanda.
Alien: Blackout will only be available on mobile devices, which is kind of a shame. I would much rather play a game like this on a console like Isolation.
Here’s the synopsis that was released:
The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout. Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices.
