It may have been ladies night Tuesday on American Idol, but the boys stole the spotlight Wednesday.
Once again, the judges only called to the stage the 10 singers who impressed them most, eliminating the remaining five.
Rocker Caleb Johnson, 22, kicked things off and stayed true to form with "Stay With Me," a "real rock star" performance according to Jennifer Lopez, who added, "It's your time."
Guitar teacher C.J. Harris, 23, brought some country soul and a big smile, despite undergoing a root canal Tuesday, to his performance of "Shelter."

We get it, Harry — you don’t like when young singers take on mature songs. But when Emily Piriz totally nailed Grace Potter and the Nocturnal’s ‘Ooh La La,’ it was so inappropriate to call her out and embarrass her.
When Emily Piriz, 18, took the stage for Rush Week on American Idol, she completely rocked her version of “Ooh La La,” which yes, is a very sexual song. While this wasn’t the first time judge Harry Connick Jr. disproved of a contestant singing this song, calling her out the way he did was rude and uncalled for.
Harry Connick Jr. Embarrassed Emily Piriz
To give you a little background, the singer took the stage and did freakin’ amazing, but apparently that didn’t matter to Harry who just asked her to read the words of the first two lines of the song.

There were new twists, familiar faces and loads of drama on American Idol Tuesday night, as the ladies kicked off the first of the live performance shows.
The new twists? In what was dubbed Rush Week, the judges reviewed tapes of the Top 15 Girls and picked the 10 that impressed them the most to perform, surprising the ladies one at a time.
The familiar faces? Randy Jackson, the "Dogfather" of Idol, was back to mentor the contestants, leading a sort of Rush Week "wisdom workshop" for the pledges, which included vocal coaching from former Idol contestants Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry,...

American Idol kicked off the live episodes on Tuesday night, where the judges selected 10 of the top 15 girls to sing for America’s votes in its first ever Rush Week.
The 15 girls that were selected at the end of Hollywood week received the mentorship of Randy Jackson, Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry and Rickey Minor. They also received style makeovers and even some spiritual advising. Unfortunately, five of the polished singers would not get the chance to sing before the live audience. Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. had narrowed down the field to the 10 who outshone the others during dress rehearsals and throughout the workshop process.
Majesty Rose was the first name call by the trio of judges. She came out with her guitar to sing Pharrell’s hit song “Happy.” Many of the performances that followed didn’t match up to Rose’s stage presence or the pure strength of her voice.

This is it! Tonight’s Feb. 18 episode of ‘American Idol’ takes us live to its first ever Rush Week where we watch 10 out of 15 girls perform for America’s votes — one of whom was shamed by Harry Connick Jr. for her sexy song choice!
For the special occasion of American Idol‘s very first “Rush Week” and this season’s first live show, Keith Urban wore his finest t-shirt! Because two hours just isn’t enough time, the judges will choose just 10 out of 15 to perform, leaving the other five without even the opportunity to earn America’s vote! Harsh. See below for who got the chance to perform and to see how they fared, and to find out why Harry decided to shame 18-year-old Emily Piriz for her song choice!

"American Idol" Season 13 is finally starting the live shows with the Top 15 girls Tuesday (Feb. 18), though only 10 of them will get to perform, which doesn't seem very fair (and as it will turn out, is not fair because so many of them completely tank). They've been working hard in boot camp all week and now only some of them get to perform? Mean.
Before things kick off, Harry Connick Jr. says this is the most talented group since the first year. That's ... not a good comparison. Kelly Clarkson is awesome, but let's not get carried away that Season 1 is the pinnacle of talent for this show, Hcj.
Just as a reminder, the viewers will vote five men and five women into the Top 13 and the judges will pick the three wild card spots. Let's get to the performances:

Do you agree that Neco should be saved over Ben? Read our take on the latest ‘Idol’gate, then pick a side and cast your vote!
American Idol revealed this season’s top 30 finalists Feb. 13 — or, at least, it revealed most of the top 30. There’s still one major decision left to be made, and unfortunately, the judges are too indecisive to make it on their own. Neco Starr and Ben Briley, both of whom really impressed us in their initial auditions and during Hollywood Week, are neck and neck, and HollywoodLife.com thinks the final spot should go to Neco!
Neco Starr Vs. Ben Briley — Why Neco Deserves A Spot In The Top 30

The final contestants were added to American Idol's Top 30 Thursday night … almost.
In a surprise twist, the judges couldn't decide which singer would round out the Top 15 Boys and, for the first time, are leaving it up to America to choose.
And it all came down to the odd couple: country singer Ben Briley, 24, who sang "Stars" for his final solo performance, and silky voiced Neco Starr, 22, who sang "Halo" by Beyoncé despite battling a cold.
"We decided we're going to let America decide the 15th spot," said Jennifer Lopez. "First time we've ever done it like this."

It’s the last ‘American Idol’ episode before the live show, and in a surprising twist, the Top 30 is actually the Top 29 — until America decides between Neco Starr and Ben Briley!
We’ve made it, you guys. American Idol auditions are finally over and the semi-finalists for the live shows have been chosen! Mostly. The judges made some really thoughtful choices and we think we’ve got a pretty solid group — but we’re still missing our 30th! The judges couldn’t decide between Ben Briley and Neco Starr, leaving their fate up to America. See below for all the highlights and our finalists so far!
‘American Idol’ Recap: Feb. 13 Highlights — Top 29 Revealed
We left off last night, Feb. 12, with Casey Thrasher and Cj Harris singing off against each other for a spot in the Top 30. The cliffhanger was for naught, as they both made it through. Weak.

American Idol has really done it this time. They’re pitting two of the semifinalist guys — authentic country crooner Ben Briley, 24, and flashy vocal dazzler Neco Starr, 22 — against each other for Your Vote — tonight! It honestly seems wildly unfair and random to me that the vote needs to be between these specific guys. Neco was battling sickness and didn’t sound anywhere near his best in the Solo Night footage shown along with the voting info. (All of that is below.) We’ll learn which guy gets to stay during next week’s special-night show on Tuesday, in which the...

Time to meet the Top 30 of "American Idol" Xiii. Wednesday (Feb. 12) the judges revealed the first 17 slots, nine boys and eight girls. Time to find out which singers get the last 13 spots.
Highlights of Thursday (Feb. 13) include:
The Cj Harris-Casey Thrasher face-off ended in both of them going through, which is what we were hoping for.Caleb Johnson's final song is "Radioactive" and J-Lo is rocking out to it and the judges put him through, but caution him that he'll have to work hard against these more traditionally talented singers. We're sad to see Nalani Quintello go, we liked her voice (what little we saw of her).Conversely, we're surprised to see Briston Maroney be chosen. We find his voice weak and nasally. Is he some cannon fodder?Briana Oakley's final solo song is enormous, it's so good. She's brought into the room with Brandy Neelly, who did...

This week the competition heats up on "American Idol" when the golden ticket recipients are made to sing in the Hollywood or Home round.
Not all of the singers are put through this extra elimination, but a good chunk of them are made to sing for their "Idol" lives before they even unpack their bags. Below, check out short clips of Neco Starr, Majesty Rose, Kenzie Hall and Munfarid Zandi performing for the judges (and their fellow contestants).
Who do you think will survive? Kenzie Hall is the only one we're sure about, but as always, the judges could have other ideas.
"American Idol" kicks off Hollywood Week on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on Fox.

Ugh, can you believe it? American Idol is back to giving us hour-long Thursday episodes. I thought these salad days of two-hour, Ben Hur-like installments would never end, but I was wrong. Scott Savol wrong.
But girl, Harry Connick Jr. still found the time to slay us with one-liners, like an actual adult we’d actually enjoy spending time with. The adult-iness of the rapport at the Idol judges’ table can’t be underestimated. Polite puns. Knowing asides. Incisive commentary on each other’s commentary. Remember, it was only a year ago that Nicki Minaj yelled obscenities while Mariah Carey muttered Mean Girls references at no one. I like Nicki and love Mariah, but that was more painful than any Lazaro Arbos ballad. This season is like a sweet, saucy, fun-loving Allison Iraheta take on “Hot Stuff.” You know I don’t say that about everyone.
Thursday’s Atlanta auditions were solid!

The performances we’ve seen from the auditions this season have been truly outstanding, and it’s so refreshing to see them judged by a panel with all of the chemistry and none of the conflict of recent seasons. See below for our top five performances of the night and to see if you recognize anybody from previous seasons! (I’ll give you a hint: one of them is Neco Starr. And he was amazing.)
