Atlas is now streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo lifted late last night - shortly before the movie hit the streamer.
Though not always the case, this is usually not a great indicator of quality, and sure enough, the reviews have been pretty dire so far.
The Brad Peyton-directed sci-fi action flick stars Jennifer Lopez as Atlas Shepard, "a woman fighting for humanity in a future where an AI soldier has determined the only way to end war is to end humanity. To out think this rogue AI, Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI."
The A.I.-centred plot is appropriate, because Atlas feels like it was generated by ChatGPT.
We didn't review the movie in full, but It's basically a hodgepodge of well-worn tropes and ideas that have been executed a lot better in other films, further let down by a by-the-numbers script,...

Mark Wahlberg’s canine drama “Arthur the King” opens in cinemas on Friday, but it may not have enough bite to top domestic box office charts.
Lionsgate’s film, a feel-good story about a man who befriends a wounded stray dog, is targeting a debut of $8 million to $10 million from 3,000 North American theaters. It’s a so-so start for the roughly $20 million-budgeted movie.
Despite the newcomer, last weekend’s champ “Kung Fu Panda 4” is expected to dominate again with roughly $28 million to $30 million in its sophomore outing. So far, the animated fourquel has grossed $62 million at the domestic box office and $93 million globally.
“Dune: Part Two” won’t be far behind “Panda” as the sci-fi adventure looks to continue its impressive box office run. The “Dune” sequel is projected to add $24 million to $27 million during its third weekend of release. After 12 days on the big screen, “Dune 2” has...

After a three year gap between films and a strike-induced delay that prevented it from making its planned fall 2023 release date, the wait for “Dune: Part Two” is almost over. It appears to be worth the wait.
Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel, which concludes his take on Frank Herbert’s original “Dune” novel, is set to hit theaters on Friday, March 1. While full reviews have yet to be published, many critics have taken to social media to share their overwhelmingly positive responses to the film following its world premiere on Thursday night.
Some called it a “masterpiece” and even better than the first film, while others compared it to the action seen in epics like Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” Though as you’ll see below, the praise wasn’t completely universal.

Dune: Part Two is one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year and for good reason. With Part One, director Denis Villeneuve brought forth a mesmerizing vision of a psychedelic war epic full of action, drama, and tragedy, while remaining faithful to one of the best and most complex sci-fi novels ever published. Frank Herbert‘s world of scheming, manipulations, combat, prophecies, and drug-induced dreaming comes to life in the desert sands of Villeneuve’s movie. But that film ended on a cliffhanger, with Timothy Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, the promised messiah of Arrakis, taking only his first steps toward his destiny.
The sequel, then, is the story of Paul’s rise to power, as he must rally the Fremen for his war against House Harkonnen after the destruction of his own great house. It’s also the story of his love affair with Zendaya’s Chani, who will...

The first reactions are in for the first hugely anticipated movie of 2024: Dune 2.
The long-delayed sequel from director Denis Villeneuve continues the story of author Frank Herbert’s space epic and the initial reactions are extremely enthusiastic, with many calling the film a masterpiece of cinema that is even better than Dune.
Dune: Part Two picks up right after the first installment, as Timothée Chalament’s Paul Atreides joins forces with the Fremen and seeks revenge against the enemies who murdered his family, possibly saving the universe along the way.
The film was originally set to release in November 2023, but because of the actors strike, Warner Bros. and Legendary chose to push it to March 2024, so that its star-studded cast, which also includes Zendaya, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh, would be able to promote it.

Dune: Part Two made its world premiere in London today, and the first reactions to the highly anticipated sequel on social media are extremely positive, but I doubt that comes as a surprise to anyone.
In a shock to no one, I absolutely loved #Dune2. Incredible filmmaking. Brilliant score. Entire cast was excellent. My only complaint was I wish it was longer. Not joking around. The movie is 2hr and 40 min(?) and I would have been happy to watch another hour. pic.twitter.com/6PZmfQTEAH

Emmys 2024 Highlights: Moments That Made The Award Memorable ( Photo Credit – Emmys – Television Academy / Instagram )
The 75th Emmy Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the television world, and this year, the shows – Beef, Succession, and The Bear dominated the ceremony by bagging most of the awards. For the unversed, the Emmys took place after a delay of four months due to the Hollywood strikes. It was initially set to take place in September 2023. Anthony Anderson hosted the award ceremony, and he had his mother in the audience to help him occasionally carry forward the ceremony smoothly.

With the fall festival circuit firmly in the rearview mirror, many of the most anticipated films of the 2023 fall season have already screened for critics. One of the last films that remained unseen was “The Iron Claw,” Sean Durkin’s new A24 sports drama that tells the story of the Von Erich wrestling family. The film, which stars Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich and Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, premiered in Dallas on Wednesday before screening for critics in Los Angeles on Sunday. And early reactions suggest that A24 could have another hit on its hands.
“The Iron Claw” documents the rapid rise to wrestling superstardom and even quicker fall toward tragedy that befell the Von Erich family. After family patriarch Fritz Von Erich (played by Holt McCallany in the film) built a following as a villainous heel on the wrestling circuit, his sons entered the business in quick succession.

Gareth Edwards’ hotly anticipated sci-fi epic The Creator has finally been unveiled for its first audience, with a press screening taking place Monday evening in Hollywood.
With full reviews of The Creator still to come, the first, albeit brief, reactions on social media have been pouring in following the screening and well ahead of the film’s Sept. 29 wide release. The consensus appears to be that The Creator could be a classic.
Judging by the early social media reaction from film journalists and critics, there is almost universal praise for the way The Creator looks and the stunning work of cinematographers Oren Soffer and Greig Fraser. Many of those who saw the film on Monday described it as one of 2023’s best films.

On Monday, Disney held the gala premiere in Los Angeles for its live-action remake of the animated classic “The Little Mermaid.” So you know what that means: The first online reactions are in.
So how did the audience feel about the film, which stars Halle Bailey in the title role alongside Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy? Did they consider it under the sea? Or do they want to be a part of its world?
Well, for the most part, people who saw it, loved it. Obviously, huge grain of salt here as always, since premiere events are designed to make attendees feel as positive as possible. That aside, the film is being praised as “close to being the best live action Disney movie,” “an absolute joy to watch,” and similarly enthused sentiments. And pretty much everyone had massive praise for Bailey.

The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel. Also in the film are Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jonah Hauer-King and Melissa McCarthy as the villain Ursula.

Audiences have made their first trip under the sea for Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” starring Halle Bailey. With the film’s Los Angeles premiere now concluding, first reactions to the musical have begun to hit social media.
Ahead of its May 26 debut in theaters, Disney unveiled footage of “The Little Mermaid” at last month’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, showing an early glimpse at Melissa McCarthy singing “Poor Unfortunate Souls” as Ursula.
Variety also reported that director Rob Marshall and his husband, producer John DeLuca, held a private screening of the film, with a guest list including Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Matt Damon and Ben Platt. The star-studded audience apparently applauded after each musical number and continued to rave during a post-screening reception.
The musical features a soundtrack by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken (who wrote the score for the 1989 original), with four new original songs.

Following their collaboration on “I Want You Back,” Amazon Studios is re-teaming with filmmakers Jason Orley and Isaac Aptaker on a yet-to-be-titled comedy.

The initial reactions to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have flitted in.
Marvel’s first release since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was screened in America on Monday (6 February), and while reviews will remain embargoed until 14 February, social media reactions are being permitted.
Unsurprisingly, many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have heaped praise upon the sequel, which is a follow-up to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
But there are those who are stating the film isn’t the knockout others are claiming, citing pacing issues in the first half.
It’s being agreed, though, that Jonathan Majors is deserving of acclaim as the film’s villain, Kang.
Majors made his debut as the character in the Loki TV series, but the new film marks Kang’s first big-screen appearance since it was announced he will face off against the Avengers in a future film, titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,...

Knowing what you want in life is a gift at any age. But figuring it out early like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Paul Rudd is definitely Tiffany’s or Peloton-level gifting. It’s like the universe handing you a stepladder for those hard-to-reach areas.
Rudd has certainly climbed that ladder, becoming one of the world’s biggest stars. But that’s not to say it has come easy. Looking back on his career thus far, the 53-year-old Marvel actor credits his success to a plan he made when he was 16.

Once upon a time, Black Adam was simply meant to be a one-off villain in a "Shazam!" movie. Now, the largely unknown hero will have his own day on the silver screen, and wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is taking on the role in a much bigger way.
The upcoming "Black Adam" film follows a mortal slave who was given the powers of the gods, but used them for vengeance — for which he was entombed, becoming Black Adam. When he is freed 5,000 years later, he finds out exactly how he wants to get justice.
There's no denying that DC hasn't had as smooth of an on-screen journey as Marvel has. DC fans are a little beaten down at this point, and all they want is a film they can believe in and love wholeheartedly. Naturally, this has fans dying to know if "Black Adam" is worth the wait — and it...

It’s almost here! The long promised Black Adam movie, starring Dwayne Johnson in a role that the actor has spent over a decade preparing for, has finally screened for critics and a handful of fans. And the response so far? Well, we’ll call it mixed but positive. Early viewers are praising Black Adam as an action-packed spectacle, one that is packed to the absolute gills with DC Comics and Dceu lore, and Johnson’s performance, while singling out the writing and pacing something of a mixed bag.
That all seems fair enough. Black Adam has a hill to climb as a movie based on one of the more obscure characters in the DC pantheon, not to mention one of the less explored corners of the DC Universe as a whole. Still, Warner Bros. is betting big on both the film and Johnson’s star power, not to mention...

The film released in India across 5,019 screens and debuted at No. 1 with a three-day weekend of 18.9 million. The film’s overseas screen count was 3,894.
In the U.S., where the film is distributed by Disney, it released in 810 theaters and debuted at No. 2 with 4.4 million.
However, the film needs to sustain its momentum to break even, with its budget approximately 51 million.
“Brahmāstra: Part One,” the first of a planned trilogy, takes place in modern-day India and follows Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) — a young man on the brink of an epic love, with a girl named Isha (Alia Bhatt). But their world is turned upside down when Shiva learns that he has a mysterious...

“Barbarian,” a horror movie that may have audiences thinking twice about booking that next Airbnb, scared up a better-than-expected 10 million in its domestic debut.
Since the box office has been a wasteland for some weeks now, those ticket sales were enough to lead domestic charts, despite barely reaching double digits. This weekend’s other new nationwide release, “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva,” opened in second place with 4.4 million from 810 North American theaters. Both films are backed by Disney.
Though “Barbarian” landed a tepid “C+” CinemaScore, the twisty thriller is benefitting from word-of-mouth, given the film’s zany and flat-out terrifying turns. Variety’s Peter Debruge gave “Barbarian” high praise, calling it “a ratched new horror classic,” one that gets “downright demented as it goes along.” If “Barbarian,” which stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long, keeps people talking, the movie is likely to keep filling seats during a creaky September at the box office.

Critics got their first peek at “Lightyear” on Wednesday night, the first Pixar movie to get a theatrical run since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The previous four “Toy Story” films have all been players at the Oscars (with “Toy Story 3” actually nominated for Best Picture) so eyes are always on this company for Awards Season.
But “Lightyear,” famously, is not a “Toy Story” movie. It’s an origin story for the toy voiced by Tim Allen, but this time about the “character” of Buzz (e.g. the movie that inspired the toy tie-in) and he’s voiced by Chris Evans. Everybody got that?
Other voice talent includes Keke Palmer, James Brolin, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Uzo Aduba, and the ubiquitous Taika Waititi. The director is Angus MacLane, who has been working with Pixar since 1998, and was co-director on “Finding Dory.”
Reaction from Fandango’s on-the-scene reporter was bullish on the picture.

Critics got their first look at “Jurassic World Dominion” on Monday night, and while official reviews are embargoed, there were apparently no dive-bombing pterodactyls to yoink the phones from their hands. Reactions went direct to Twitter, and it’s fair to say the response was mixed.
Scott “Movie” Mantz, often one of the more upbeat and rah-rah boosters of popcorn cinema, was unimpressed:
It pains me to say this, but I did Not like #JurassicWorldDominion — the story was convoluted & all over the place, and it didn’t feel special. There’s no magic or heart to it, and it doesn’t capture the awe-inspiring feeling of the original at all. Not sure who it’s even for. pic.twitter.com/WjhVJaY9Nv

The North American premiere of “Jurassic World: Dominion” has officially concluded in Los Angeles and first reactions to the dino-centric sequel are pouring in online, with entertainment writers calling the follow-up everything from a good hit of nostalgia to downright bad. As with most sequels in the “Jurassic” series, “Dominion” is being met with a mixed response.
Universal has positioned “Dominion” as a finale for the franchise, organizing a round-up of “Jurassic” stars old and new. The film reunites Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who all starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return after starring in 2015’s “Jurassic World” and 2018’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” while series newcomers DeWanda Wise and Mamoudou Athie also join the cast of the new entry.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has officially concluded its world premiere and the first reactions for the new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are pouring in online, with film journalists calling the long-awaited sequel everything from a film that “fully goes horror” to “a mixed bag.” One thing almost everyone seems to agree on is that it’s nice to see Sam Raimi back in the director’s chair.
Benedict Cumberbatch reprises the title role in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is helmed by Raimi. The film picks up after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” in which Stephen Strange changed the face of reality by opening up the multiverse. Now, Strange is forced to team up with old and new allies as he ventures into the multiverse to face a new enemy. The film co-stars Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez,...

The reviews are in for Marvel’s “Morbius” starring Jared Leto, and they’re out for blood.
As the social media and review embargo lifted on Wednesday evening for the film, critics took to Twitter to elaborate on what some are calling the “worst Marvel superhero movie in a long, long time.”
“Morbius is a reminder of what many comic book movies were before the MCU: sloppy, poorly executed, and sure to disappoint fans of the comics,” critic Dan Murrell tweeted. “It also contains the worst attempt at universe building in the modern era. Full review later tonight but… it’s bad.”

The creepy new trailer has landed for A Banquet.
The movie is in theaters and On Demand February 18.
Ruth Paxton’s women-led horror sees a mother tested when her daughter insists that her body is no longer her own, but in service to a higher power. Stars Sienna Guillory, Jessica Alexander and Ruby Stokes.
https://www.ifcfilms.com/films/a-banquet
The movie had it’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In Ruth Paxton’s spellbinding debut feature, widowed mother Holly (Sienna Guillory) grapples with eldest daughter Betsey’s (Jessica Alexander) disturbing conviction that her body has become a vessel for an unknown higher power, one that has ominously robbed her of any appetite, and which Betsey believes heralds a cataclysmic upheaval.
At first, her condition is suspected to be an act of adolescent rebellion or a psychological break. But despite her refusal to eat, Betsey loses no weight...

The first reactions to “The Matrix Resurrections” are in — and it’s a mixed bag, ranging from “terrific” to “bogged down in exposition.”
As the film’s social media embargo lifted on Thursday night, film critics and journalists took to Twitter to share their opinions about the franchise’s latest installment.
Film critic Courtney Howard called it “a terrific, awe-inducing, meta mind-bender completely in line with the franchise’s legacy.” Howard also praised the movie for finding “an innovative, high-concept way to frame the new story.”

“Paw Patrol: The Movie” is getting a sequel.
Paramount Pictures will release the film in theaters on Oct. 13, 2023. Unlike the first movie, which debuted on Paramount Plus on the same day as its theatrical release as a concession to the pandemic, the upcoming animated adventure will play exclusively in theaters.
The “Paw Patrol” empire is continuing to expand. Nickelodeon and Spin Master Entertainment, the companies behind the pre-school powerhouse franchise, have announced a new television spinoff series for one of the main pups to debut in 2023.
“We loved telling a deeper ‘Paw Patrol’ story on a bigger canvas and are pleased that the movie connected so strongly with kids and families around the world,” said Spin Master Entertainment’s president Jennifer Dodge. “Judging by the exit polls, audience scores and positive critical reception, everyone had as much fun watching it, and rewatching it, as we did making it. Need proof that moviegoing is far from returning to normal? Look no further than this weekend’s domestic box office charts.
Case in point: “Paw Patrol,” an animated movie based on the popular kids TV show, left Hugh Jackman’s sci-fi romance drama “Reminiscence” in the dust in North America, with the heroic pups of Adventure City collecting six times more in its debut than a film toplined by one of the most charismatic actors in Hollywood. That’s the unpredictable reality of the movie theater business as the delta variant continues to depress ticket sales across the globe. Hurricane Henri, which is currently battering parts of the Northeast, is also keeping people at home.
Neither “Paw Patrol” nor “Reminiscence,” two of the four new films to open this weekend, were able to best Ryan Reynolds’ action comedy “Free Guy,” which remained victorious for the second weekend straight. The Disney...

With the social media embargo lifted, critical reactions have begun pouring in for “Cruella,” Disney’s latest crack at adapting an animated classic into live-action, adult-ish fare.
According to the initial reviews, the origin story of fur-crazed villainess Cruella de Vil delivers on dark humor, ’70s punk glam and wickedly good performances.
“Cruella could be the biggest surprise of the summer. Bold, dark, & wonderfully anti-Disney. Emma Stone is perfection as Cruella,” Scott Menzel of WeLiveEntertainment wrote. “Hair & Makeup, Production Design & Costume Design are sure bets for Oscars noms. Paul Walter Hauser is terrific and Winks the dog is adorable.”

Another week, another step toward the world as we knew it before Covid-19, thanks to nationwide vaccination efforts and the gradual reopening of theaters. A week after New York cinemas cautiously reopened, Los Angeles plans to do the same, and distributors are serving up movies they’d kept on the sidelines to serve the venues that have suffered so greatly this past year — although after last week’s deluge, this one brings a pretty meager menu of new releases.
Perhaps most tantalizing is Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Human Voice,” starring Tilda Swinton. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the 30-minute short film, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival (one of 2020’s few in-person events), in just a handful of theaters, along with a fresh restoration of the Spanish master’s “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.” That means audiences can come just for a short, social-distanced experience (ducking...

Cinemas — the ones that are open — are hurting for new content. With only one wide release this week — that would be Focus Features’ “Half Brothers” opening on approximately 1,200 screens — film fans will likely be staying home and sifting through new releases via streaming instead.

Who knows how audiences will react to a story about a romance cut short by medical tragedy in the era of Covid-19, but Universal serves up a well-made version of just that kind of love story with “All My Life,” featuring Jessica Rothe and Harry Shum Jr.

With more than two dozen movies releasing a week — the vast majority of them still straight to streaming — we’re narrowing the focus of our curation somewhat, spotlighting those of sufficiently high profile or merit.
Audiences could hardly hope for a more exciting or timely option than “The Trial of the Chicago 7” from “The West Wing’s” Aaron Sorkin, who’s taken audiences to court before (he wrote “A Few Good Men”). The trial may have been a case of late-’60s political theater, as the U.S. Attorney General prosecuted eight activists who’d organized outside the 1968 Republican National Convention, but it directly speaks to the mood of protest gripping the country in advance of the 2020 election. The defendants might still be known as the “Chicago 8,” had Bobby Seale been given a fair trial — although Sorkin doesn’t shy away from that mishandling, presenting the treatment of Seale...

Just a few days after “The Kissing Booth 2” debuted on Netflix, the streaming service announced a third movie in the teen romance franchise is in the works.

Well, it’s official: Thanks to the coronavirus — and the kind of real-world disaster-movie mayhem that even Hollywood couldn’t invent — summer movie season is canceled. Now that “Tenet” and “Mulan” have both scrapped their summer U.S. theatrical release plans, there’s nothing even remotely resembling a blockbuster on the horizon.
The good news — and there is good news — is that we’re deep enough into this pandemic that distributors have figured out how to release their films virtually, and in some cases, to drive-ins and those few hardtop venues safe (or stubborn) enough to remain open. That means moviegoers can see thrillers “The Rental” and “Amulet,” as well as Vinnie Jones starrer “The Big Ugly,” in select theaters this week, while movie-stayers — those living under lockdown, or simply too cautious to return to cinemas — can order the same movies on demand.
Meanwhile, the streaming services continue to thrive.

After hanging up Iron Man’s suit last April, Robert Downey Jr. is discovering that it’s hard to find a follow-up franchise. “Dolittle,” the former Marvel star’s attempt to launch a kid-friendly series, is shaping up to be a box office dud, one that shows that even his considerable charms have limits.
Saddled with horrific reviews (The Atlantic’s David Sims dubbed it “one of the worst cinematic fiascos I’ve seen”) and reports of production nightmares, “Dolittle” looks like it’s going to be one of the first high-profile misses of 2020. Extensive re-shoots for the beleaguered fantasy-adventure, about an eccentric veterinarian with a penchant for conversing with his four-legged patients, propelled its price tag above $180 million.
“Robert Downey Jr. is a national treasure, and his success with ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Avengers’ cemented his status to the multiplex masses. That said, he doesn’t actually have superpowers,...

If the social media reaction coming out of the first round of screenings for “1917” is any indication, Sam Mendes has made a World War I film for the ages.
While full reviews won’t hit the internet until Monday afternoon, attendees of press screenings in Los Angeles and New York were free to post their thoughts on Universal’s upcoming epic. Featuring the cinematography of “Blade Runner 2049” Oscar winner Roger Deakins, “1917” follows two British soldiers tasked to save their fellow men from an ambush in a race against time.
Universal has heavily promoted Mendes and Deakins’ choice to film the entire movie as if it was one continuous take, similar to Alejandro Inarritu and Emmanuel Lubezki’s work on “Birdman.”

Stephen King’s novels and short stories have been getting the big screen treatment going all the way back to 1976 with the horror classic Carrie. Between movies and miniseries, King’s work has been consistently entertaining and frightening audiences.
But with the massive success of the new version of It in 2017, remakes of his earlier stories have become a priority in the industry. We already got Pet Sematary and It: Chapter Two in 2019 and there’s more to come over the next few years, including a new miniseries of The Stand and updates to The Tommyknockers and Cujo.
Perhaps the most anticipated King adaptation however isn’t a remake, but a sequel to The Shining. Attempting to remake Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece is a daunting task, so director Mike Flanagan decided to continue the story by adapting King’s 2013 follow-up: Doctor Sleep.

First reactions are pouring in for writer/director Mike Flanagan’s Stephen King adaptation “Doctor Sleep,” which Warner Bros. releases on November 8. The film is an adaptation of King’s 2013 novel of the same name, which serves as a sequel to “The Shining,” here following grown-up Danny (Ewan McGregor) in his attempts to build a normal life in the shadow of everything that went down at the Overlook.
Below, IndieWire has rounded up first impressions of the movie, which also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Carl Lumbly, and Alex Essoe. In the new film, things get complicated for McGregor’s adult Danny when he meets a young girl who shares his psychic gifts while working at a hospice center.
With #DoctorSleepMovie, Mike Flanagan delivers the best parts of Kubrick and King in one movie.
It made me feel silly for wanting to step back into The Overlook, instead of stepping forward from The Shining with Danny.

Each of the trailers for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum have been met with a glowing response on social media, and now that the film’s first critic reactions have surfaced, it’s beginning to look like the movie might well live up to the hype.
Predictably enough, much of the praise is directed at the set pieces, suggesting that Chad Stahelski’s trilogy-closer is going to continue the franchise’s run as one of the most stylish action properties of recent years. What’s more, it sounds like the upcoming flick is going to deliver some serious canine action that will bring the whole series full circle.
#JohnWick3 is Awesome. Some of the action set pieces are so insane you’ll wonder how director Chad Stahelski and his team filmed them. Saying that, the @Halleberry/#KeanuReeves set piece featuring her dogs might be my favorite. Wait till you see this one.

(Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics a question pertaining to the contemporary movie landscape.)
July 27th will see the release of “Mission: Impossible — Fallout,” a movie that Tom Cruise has improbably survived to promote. Of course, this is hardly the first time that a performer has put their life on the line for our amusement.
This week’s question: What is the best stunt you’ve ever seen in a film?
Luke Hicks (@lou_kicks), Film School Rejects, Birth.Movies.Death., Chicago Reader
It’s difficult to award the most incredible stunt to anyone but the master of all stunts: Jackie Chan. And when it comes to narrowing down the best of his best, why wouldn’t we listen to Chan himself? He is the expert after all. In his 1998 memoir “I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action,” he cites what he believes to be his best/most impressive stunt.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday..
This past weekend saw the release of “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda,” the latest in a recent string of impressively strong and commercially successful biographical documentaries (other recent standouts include “Rbg” and “Won’t You Be my Neighbor?”).
This week’s question: What is the best biographical documentary ever made?
Siddhant Adlakha (@SidizenKane), Freelance for The Village Voice, /Film
The best and arguably most important documentaries ever made are complimentary pieces by Joshua Oppenheimer, “The Act of Killing” (2013) and “The Look of Silence (2015). They’re set against the backdrop of Indonesia’s 1965-66 genocide, believed to be sponsored by the C.I.A., but they’re each rooted in the lives of singular subjects and their diametrically opposed journeys.
The cleansing, of an estimated three million ethnic Chinese, changed the face of the nation in terrifying ways,...
