The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess Short Story Collection
By Akiharu Touka
In a world of her own creation, the lives of Konoha's many characters are filled with the kind of cringey doom and gloom that only an adolescent mind can produce. But where's the fun in that? Throwing in a pinch of crossdressing, a dabble of sickfics, and oh—a date with a fellow bookworm—really spices up the story! From ninjas to assassin butlers and yanderes, there's never a dull moment in the many alternate universes Konoha Satou lives through as the most despicable villainess, Iana Magnolia!

There are many famous crossovers in gaming history, and whilst many of them are flawed, some (such as Marvel vs Capcom 2, Battletoads vs. Double Dragon and many more) are sublime. I’d never played either an Accel World or a Sword Art Online game when I came into Accel World vs Sword Art Online, so I entered it with an open mind, and I’ve spent a fair few hours over the past few days in researching both series.
Both Accel World and Sword Art Online were created by Reki Kawahara, and feature a back catalogue of Manga comics and cartoons that deal with fairly light, adventurous plots and themes. Both focus heavily on the advanced, virtual reality worlds that are present in each fiction and, I discovered, fans of Kawahara have long suspected that the worlds crossed over anyway. It isn’t even a massive spoiler for me to...
Looks like the anime/manga/light novel-to-American live-action genre is doing pretty well for itself these days. First (and perhaps most notably) we have the upcoming Ghost In The Shell flick, starring Scarlett Johansson; then there's the upcoming Death Note Netflix movie, which Willem Dafoe Has Just Signed On For; we also have Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron hard at work on a Battle Angel Alita film (renamed Alita: Battle Angel). Slowly but surely, this genre seems to slowly be horning its way into the mainstream. Now I feel like it's only a matter of time before we get a live-action American Summer Wars movie, but I digress.
In addition to all these upcoming titles, Variety reported that Sword Art Online (Sao), the popular light novel and anime series is up next to get the American live-action -- this time, as a TV show. According to the outlet, Skydance Media,...

Skydance Media has snapped up the global live-action rights to Sword Art Online, the über-popular Japanese anime franchise that centers on a bleeding-edge Vr role-playing game. Alita: Battle Angel and Shutter Island scribe Laeta Kalogridis is attached to write the pilot episode, while also holding an executive producer credit opposite David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross.
Tracing its roots back to Reki Kawahara’s novel series, Sao was birthed in 2009 and imagines a near-future where budding players delve into the title alternate reality via the NerveGear, a head-mounted device that stimulates all five of the user’s senses to create an unprecedented and immersive experience. It has since gone on to inspire two TV anime adaptations, a spinoff anime special and an upcoming anime film. Beyond that, Sword Art Online also spans multiple manga series, games, and a virtual reality demonstration in Japan.

Sword Art Online has been adapted from manga to anime to video game. Now, it's becoming a live-action TV series. THR reports Skydance Television has announced its plans to turn the game into a live-action series that will be coupled with an immersive Vr experience. Skydance issued a statement accompanying the announcement:
“At Skydance we are in the business of world-building and Sao is a massive pop-culture phenomenon from which we plan to launch a full-scale and wide-ranging set of live-action franchise extensions across our business verticals, beginning with television...We look forward to working alongside Laeta [Kalogridis], Reki Kawahara and the teams at Kadowawa and Aniplex to build out a deeply immersive new universe of Sao in an authentic way that honors its well-established fan base around the globe.”
I'm more than a little skeptical about adapting a series that takes place 90% inside a video game to a television series.

Much like God Eater 2: Rage Burst and God Eater: Resurrection before it, Bandai Namco is bringing Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization to the west in 2016, when it will launch across both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
Pitched as a new beginning for the Sao series, Hollow Realization acts as the fourth mainline console installment from Bandai and will be based on characters introduced in Reki Kawahara’s über-popular light novel series. As such, expect Kirito and Asuna to return to the fold, with the developers teasing a batch of new characters that are yet to make their Sword Art debut in a video game.
“The Sword Art Online franchise has experienced incredible growth in popularity on a global level with light-novel and anime fans,” Bandai Namco America marketing executive Eric Hartness said in a statement. “With Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, we’re striving to take fans even...

The fourth installment of the Sword Art Online video game series, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, will be arriving on Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita sometime in 2016, according to publisher Bandai Namco.
The announcement, which was made this weekend at the yearly Dengei Bunko Fall Festival, comes only weeks before the North American release date for Sword Art Online: Lost Song, which is expected to hit Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita consoles on November 17.
There’s no confirmation or guarantee that Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization will even arrive stateside at all, but given the success of 2014’s Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment in the U.S. and the anticipation for the upcoming Sword Art Online: Lost Song, it’s a safe bet that this next iteration will be localized for the American market, too.

In 2013, Bandai Namco released the first game based off the popular anime and light novel series Sword Art Online. Titled Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, it was released exclusively in Japan for the PlayStation Portable. Since it came along so late in the PSP’s lifespan, Bandai Namco then remade the game for PlayStation Vita one year later. The Vita release, titled Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, wasn’t just a prettier version though, as it also included plenty of new content for us to sink our teeth into.
Why is all this information relevant? Well, now PlayStation 4 owners can purchase Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, which is yet another version of the PlayStation Portable title that released in 2013. Say what you will, but Bandai Namco knows how to make the most out of its series, seeing how the same game managed to make it onto to...
