Adult Swim has ordered two new seasons of “Flcl” as well as the new anime series “Housing Complex C” in honor of the 25th anniversary of Toonami, Variety has learned exclusively.
The two new “Flcl” seasons are titled “Flcl: Grunge” and “Flcl: Shoegaze,” both of which are currently in production. “Grunge” is directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo and animated by MontBlanc Pictures. “Shoegaze” is directed by Yutaka Uemura and animated by Production I.G x Nut.
“What better time to announce two new seasons of ‘Flcl’ and ‘Housing Complex C’ than on our 25th anniversary,” said Jason DeMarco, creative director of Toonami and senior vice president of action and anime for WarnerMedia. “Adult Swim’s ongoing commitment to support Toonami with new original series is something anime fans can celebrate every day.”

Director: Hitoshi Takekiyo, 2012
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Not many family films can boast having a skeleton and a skinless anatomy model among their leading characters, but then After School Midnighters isn’t quite what you’d expect from a ‘family film’. Certainly one of the more striking and surreal features LIFF27 has to offer, this Japanese CG curiosity brings a Tim Burton-esque touch of the macabre to your conventional cartoon adventure movie. It might also be one of the oddest films you’ve ever seen.
After stumbling into the science lab of St. Claire’s Elementary School, three precocious girls - the screaming Mako, the spoilt Muko and the near-silent Mutsuko – are surprised (but not, crucially, scared) to find that they have inadvertently disturbed anatomy model Kun (or, to give his full name, Louis Thomas Jerome Kunstlijkand) from his display stand.

The Fantasia Film Festival is taking place from July 18th to August 6th in Montreal and will feature over 100 films from around the world. We gave you a look at the initial lineup last month and now have an additional list of Fantasia 2013 films that will be screening, including Curse of Chucky, You’re Next, and Frankenstein’s Army:
Horror Is Child’S Play – Don Mancini’S Curse Of Chucky (World Premiere)
A rarity among genre franchises, the Child’S Play series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades’-long reign of horror. Mancini, who will be hosting our “scar-studded” world premiere, graduated to the director’s chair with 2004’s Seed Of Chucky, after having co-written or written every entry in the series. His longevity with the project is, of course, matched by the fiendish voiceover work by...

Do people still drop acid and watch movies? Is that still a thing with kids? If so, I’m sure a viewing of director Hitoshi Takekiyo’s bizarre animated motion picture “After School Midnighters” is in their future. Truthfully, I can’t say I’m sure what this one is all about. Although it looks like a deranged children’s flick on the surface, I think there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface. Even if it’s nothing more than a zany face-value experience, it might be worth checking out. Being thoroughly demented goes a very long way with me. I do feel that a synopsis is in order: The main character ‘Kynst Lijk’ is a human body model that stands in a science room of an elementary school. Kynst Lijk also reigns over the school after midnight. One day, when a naughty kindergarden trio accidentally meets him,...
