A&e is heading to court, live.
The cable network has ordered Court Night Live, a reality series that will bring live trials to television.
The series comes from Big Fish Entertainment, the company behind controversial series Live Pd. Although it will air on Wednesday nights at 9pm, starting August 10, rather than on Friday and Saturday nights, Court Night Live appears to be the network’s spiritual successor to live cops series.
Summer Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
Deadline revealed that Live Pd, which was one of the highest rated series on cable, was canceled in June 2020, in the wake of George Floyd’s death and after a controversy that video allegedly captured by the Live Pd crew of the death of Javier Ambler during a police stop had been destroyed.
A Live Pd successor On Patrol: Live recently premiered to strong numbers on Reelz.

Having canceled “Live P.D.” in 2020, A&e is returning to the live docu-reality TV space — but this time, the network is trading order for law. A&e is set to launch “Court Night Live,” from former “Live Pd” producers Big Fish Entertainment, next Wednesday, August 10 at 9 p.m. Et.
“Court Night Live” will operate under a similar format to “Live Pd,” featuring hosts as they shift from multiple cities to watch live action as it takes place — but this time via “pop-up courtrooms” in Philadelphia, Tampa, and Chicago. The show is hosted by Vinnie Politan and TV vet Judge Greg Mathis, while retired Judge Vonda Evans will provide analysis.
Much like pre-taped daytime court shows, “Court Night Live” doesn’t take place in actual courtrooms, but feature people are taking their cases out of traditional courtrooms to be resolved on the show. Politan, Mathis, and Evans will provide context to the civil cases,...

On Patrol: Live, the follow-up to reality hit series Live Pd, opened strongly on Friday night despite a technical glitch.
The police-action series, which airs on Reelz channel, having previously been a hit for A&e, was the number one show on cable on Friday in the 25-54 demo with 397,000 viewers between these ages.
This comes after the show had to push its start time by 73 minutes as a result of technical problems. Reelz was premiering the show, which is hosted by Dan Abrams, at 9pm Et/6pm Pt, but as a result of technical problems, it wasn’t able to launch until after 10pm on the east coast.
As a result, Reelz took the show commercial free across its three-hour premiere.
On Saturday, it scored an even larger audience between 9pm and midnight on the east coast, averaging 403,000 in the same demo, similarly making it the biggest show of the night for this crowd.

A&e has pulled the plug on its popular “Live P.D.” police show amid the ongoing George Floyd protests, two days after Texas media reported that the show had destroyed footage of a man being arrested and dying in custody in March 2019.

CNN alum Ashleigh Banfield is set to host the series from Big Fish Entertainment, producers of “Live Pd.” The new show will follow a group of first responders live as in various cities around the country.
” ‘Live Rescue’ is the next incarnation of our groundbreaking partnership with Big Fish Entertainment, following the brave paramedics and first responders who risk their lives every day to keep us safe despite the challenges of their jobs,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, A&E’s exec VP and head of programming.
A&E has ordered eight two-hour episodes of “Live Rescue,” which is set to premiere April 22 at 9 p.m. In September, A&E renewed “Live Pd” for a whopping 150 episodes. “Live Pd” airs in three-hour blocks on Friday and Saturday nights.

The series follows first responders across the nation as they insert themselves into situations while answering emergency rescue calls, and will premiere on April 22.

Ahead of tonight’s Season 3 premiere of Live Pd, A&E has given another massive order to its flagship series, picking up an additional 150 episodes of the hit real-time reality police docuseries. Totaling 450 hours, the deal extends the series’ run into 2019, with the new order bringing the number of commissioned episodes to date to 293.
Live Pd, from Big Fish Entertainment, an MGM company, was a risky proposition when A&E committed to an eight-episode run in fall 2016. The show quickly caught on, earning ever growing additional episode orders, starting with 13 and most recently 100 in July 2017.
The expanding orders mirror the series’ ratings trajectory. Since its premiere in October 2016, Live Pd has grown by more than 150% in total viewers (L+Sd and L+3), hitting a series high of 2.7 million total viewers on April 7, 2018. Over the course of the 80-episode second season, Live Pd was the No. 1 show of the night on all of television 28 times. In August, Live Pd was the #1 program on all of TV among A25-54 and A18-49 on Fridays and Saturdays, propelling A&E to be the #1 TV network on Fridays and Saturdays for the month with A25-54 and A18-49.
“Live Pd has tapped into the cultural zeitgeist in ways we never imaged, said Elaine Frontain Bryant, Evp and Head of Programming for A&E. “Our viewers are passionate and are truly engaged with the show. In fact, they have helped law enforcement agencies find missing children and wanted fugitives.”
Hosted by Dan Abrams with analysis from Tom Morris Jr. and Sgt. Sean ‘Sticks’ Larkin, Live Pd follows diverse police departments from across the country in real time as they patrol their communities. Using dash cams along with fixed rig and handheld cameras, the series captures the work of a varied mix of urban and rural police forces on a typical Friday and Saturday night. Live Pd also features law enforcement officers from the series who appear in-studio as guest analysts to provide additional commentary.
Among the agencies Live Pd will be following at the beginning of season three are the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the El Paso Police Department, the Warwick Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Mission Police Department, the Salinas Police Department and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
In a throwback to America’s Most Wanted, Live Pd has two popular features. In partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the show’s “Missing” segments highlight the stories of missing children. Tips from “Live Pd” viewers have helped law enforcement to recover seven children. The “Wanted” segment, in which law enforcement agencies across the country ask viewers for help in finding suspects wanted in crimes, has led to 11 fugitives being caught.
Cesareo, John Zito and Kara Kurcz executive produce for Big Fish Entertainment. A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights.
Live Pd airs Friday and Saturday nights at 9 Pm Et/Pt.
Big Fish Entertainment was repped in the deal by CAA and attorneys Todd Weinstein and Tara Senior at Del Shaw Moonves.

In a move that is both fascinating and potentially eyebrow-raising, A&E Network has announced a ‘live’ (on a delay due to the nature of the content) reality show that takes viewers right into the heart of police work.
The show bills itself as giving viewers the chance to ride along in real time with six diverse police departments, with not only dash cams, hand-held cameras, and more, but also a live social media component in order to go even further ‘behind-the-scenes.’
Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of A&E and Lifetime, announced the show saying-
“Every day the demands for more transparency in law enforcement continues to come from both civilians and police across the country,” said Sharenow. “‘Live Pd’ will not only highlight the difficult work being done by our men and women in uniform as they go out into the streets never knowing what to expect,...
