Dasa Raimanova, originally from Slovakia, is a London based documentary filmmaker, whose distinguishing qualities are fluency in several languages, intrepidness, cultural versatility and a strong academic background.
She graduated with BA in Film, Video and Interactive Arts at Middlesex University. Her work explores socio-political topics, generally focussing on the stories of strong women.
Her feature debut 'Polyland' gives voice to three strong women from different minorities in Wroclaw and explores the nuances of how it feels to be black, Muslim or LGBTQ+ in the most homogenous country in an ever more right-leaning Europe.
Short version of 'Polyland' got selected for 'The Guardian Pitch' at Sheffield Doc Fest 2016.
Her short doc, 'Resistance Recipes', a food and farming themed documentary highlighting the everyday struggles of Palestinians in the West Bank, has been selected for the London, Bristol and Toronto Palestine Film Festivals.
For the past fours years, Dasa has also been working on an animated documentary "Not a Saint, just an Angel" about a 95 year old peace activist from London.
Before moving to the UK, Dasa completed an MA in Biological Anthropology and Cognitive Sciences in Austria, and France and spent two years in India learning the art of Bharata Natyam - South Indian traditional dance.
