Made on a relatively shoe-string budget with thanks to Kickstarter, this reimagined Street Fighter origin tale Assassins Fist came to fruition as brief twelve minute webisodes; ten in total. After its success on YouTube, the show was then turned into a proper film, exceeding two hours and cut from the webisode material. New action series concept, The Fight Room has made the official selection of the prestigious New York Television Festival. Featuring martial arts champion and action actress Zara Phythian (The Hike) and action directed by Christian Howard (Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist), the series is written by Gillian MacGregor and Emily Corcoran, directed by Niall Johnson and executive produced by Graeme Fry for Cork Films Ltd and Stanley Road Productions.
The Fight Room follows a group of female fighters who are kidnapped from all over the world and taken to an unknown location where they are blackmailed into fighting each other for an anonymous internet audience. The narrative blends elements of the classic tournament fight genre with a strong dramatic emphasis as the audience follow the struggles, life and death decisions and unravelling of the mysteries of the female characters.

Street Fighter! For fans of the franchise the words caused the blood to pump, the fingers to twitch, and a grin to cross their lips. It’s been going strong for almost 30 years since the introduction of the original “Street Fighter” video game in 1987. But it wasn’t until 1991 when its sequel “Street Fighter II” hit the arcades that the phenomenon truly took hold. From there it exploded into expansion after expansion, adding characters, adding and fine-tuning moves, and deepening gameplay. It expanded its lore through other media like anime and manga. It even got the Hollywood treatment, although with less than favorable results.
