Jennifer Acres
- Script and Continuity Department
- Writer
Jennifer Acres had a passion for film and music from a young age. Once
she reached high school, she turned her passion into action when she
began writing her first screenplay at age 15 and took lessons in both
voice and piano. She enrolled at HBU with the intention of earning a
Bachelor of Music degree in Composition, which she did complete; but
before graduating Summa Cum Laude, she took several film and writing
courses. Her first feature length screenplay came out of a 10 week
semester during her Junior year and her first short, completed within
the same semester, won both the Best Director and Best Screenplay
awards at the HBU Student Film Festival. It did not take long for
Jennifer to learn that her true talent and passion lay in
screenwriting.
Jennifer submitted her first two screenplays to Worldfest Houston International Film Festival, which garnered her a Bronze and Silver Remi Award in 2009. Jennifer was later introduced to director Shawn Welling and was brought on board to co-write the initial draft of his feature length thriller The Legend of DarkHorse County (2014) and stayed on working as production manager. This script for "DarkHorse" received a Gold Remi at Worldfest 2012. Jennifer earned a quarter-finalist spot in the BlueCat Productions Screenplay Competition for her third screenplay "Ties," which also received a Platinum Remi at Worldfest 2012. In 2012, Jennifer also assisted in the founding of the entertainment hub P.O.P. Entertainment Group with Joy Willard and Maximillian Jung.
In 2013, Jennifer continued her endeavor in directing with the short film "Keys of the Heart." This film was a collaborative project with Chao Xu which they co-produced as the launching film for their company Quite Dapper Productions.
