Breeders is a dark comedy. But towards the end of the second season of the Martin Freeman- and Daisy Haggard-fronted parenting series, it gets even darker.
Season 2 of the FX and Sky series starts with their children, Luke (now played by Alex Eastwood) and Ava (Eve Prenelle), six years older than they were in Season 1, thus serving up brand-new parenting challenges for Freeman’s Paul and Haggard’s Ally.
Luke’s increasing anxiety and Ava’s growing independence added some new and uncharted complications into the existing chaotic mix of stretched resources, lack of time and the fine art of winging it while looking like you know what you’re doing.

Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard’s parenting comedy Breeders is returning for a third season.
FX and Sky have renewed the Avalon-produced series for a third run airing in 2022. The second season just finished its run in the U.S.
It comes after Simon Blackwell told Deadline that he and his colleagues, including Chris Addison, had set up a physical writers room, rather than having to collaborate over Zoom.
Breeders explores the parental paradox that you’d happily die for your children, but quite often you also want to kill them. Season 2 flashes forward with Luke (Alex Eastwood), now 13, and Ava (Eve Prenelle), now 13, thus serving up brand-new parenting challenges for Freeman’s Paul and Haggard’s Ally.

BBC Three Comedy Pilots Includes Latest Female-Led Project From ‘Fleabag’ Producer Two Brothers Pics
BBC Three has revealed a slate of four Comedy Slices pilots, which include Dinosaur, the latest female-led project from Fleabag producer Two Brothers Pictures.
The 22-minute comedy is written by Elizabeth McGovern and Simon Curtis’ daughter, Matilda Curtis, and centers on Ashley Storrie-portrayed Nina, an autistic woman who has never sought any kind of diagnosis.
Nina’s always felt a little different from other people but she finds happiness in the world thanks to her passion for paleontology and her friendship with her bubbly younger sister Evie. However, when Evie asks Nina to be her maid of honor, Nina decides to step out of her comfort zone with a challenge: to find herself a date to bring to the wedding.
Dinosaur is executive produced by Harry Williams and Jack Williams, who will be hoping to repeat the Emmy-winning success of Fleabag. The show is one of three other female-led comedies unveiled by the BBC.

Exclusive: Avalon wrapped production on the second season of FX and Sky’s Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard comedy Breeders last Friday, as the UK faced further coronavirus disruption amid the outbreak of fast-spreading mutation of the virus.
Created by Freeman, Chris Addison, and Simon Blackwell, the parental comedy was one of the first Sky shows to begin filming in August following the Covid-19 production hiatus. Its 15-week shoot included a two-week pause following a positive coronavirus test.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Everything’s Going To Be Ok producer Avalon makes the series in association with FX Productions. It features Freeman and Haggard as parents trying to look after their two small children Luke, played by George Wakeman, and Ava, played by Jayda Eyles.
Veep writer Blackwell serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Addison, Freeman, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, David Martin, Jon Thoday, Toby Welch, and Michael Wiggs.

Martin Freeman-fronted comedy “Breeders” is heading back into production on Monday.
Cameras have resumed rolling in Greater London on the second season of the Sky and FX Networks series, following a 16-week suspension due to the Covid-19 crisis. Produced by Avalon (“Catastrophe”), the show is understood to be adhering to strict coronavirus protocols, which were signed off earlier this summer.
The show is the latest to get back into production in the U.K., where the industry is gradually coming back to life after a months-long shutdown. Protocols were published in late May, and an insurance fund with government support was unveiled last month. Netflix and BBC drama “The Serpent” recently wrapped its shoot, after relocating to the U.K. from Thailand.

After unceremoniously pulling “Taskmaster” from it schedule after only a single episode, the CW has found a new home for the U.K. acquisition.
Variety has learned that the full 10 episodes (series 8 in the U.K.) of “Taskmaster” which the CW acquired will now be available to stream for free on its CW Seed streaming service.
The move comes less than a week after “Taskmaster” was dumped from the network’s Sunday schedule due terrible debut ratings.
Hosted by comedian Greg Davies and creator Alex Horne (who act as the titular taskmaster and the taskmaster’s assistant respectively), the show debuted to a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49 and only 212,000 viewers. While a 0.1 isn’t necessarily a disastrous number in comparison with CW’s other summer fare, that total viewership figure is one of the lowest CW has managed in what is a cold summer for broadcast TV ratings overall.

Take heart, Taskmaster fans. The British game show that was recently pulled from The CW’s schedule after one airing has moved to CWSeed. The entire 10-episode season is now available to binge on the network’s free ad-supported digital network.
Taskmaster is an International Emmy and triple BAFTA nominated comedy game show, which just won the 2020 BAFTA award for best comedy entertainment program. It stars comedian and actor Greg Davies in the title role of the all-powerful Taskmaster, who issues simple comedic and bizarre tasks to five regular contestants – usually comedians – with Alex Horne (the show creator) acting as the Taskmaster’s assistant. The tasks – usually performed in isolation, but occasionally in teams – are designed to encourage the players to think laterally and creatively.
The show got off to a slow start on The CW. In its premiere episode, Taskmaster averaged a 0.1 adults 18-49 and drew 432,000 and 224,000 viewers, respectively,...

The ten-part series is produced by Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Catastrophe producer Avalon Television, and exposes the paradox of parenting where it is possible, in the same moment, to love your child, while being apoplectically angry at them. Freeman stars as a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was.
It emerged in March that Freeman was piloting the show, which was created by The Office star and Veep’s Simon Blackwell and Chris Addison, before Sky picked it up in the UK with the U.S. cable network. The show will air in 2020.
Executive producers include Blackwell, Addison, Freeman, Michael Wiggs, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett and Jon Thoday. Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming commissioned the series...

Comedy Central’s latest development slate is diverse in more ways than one.
Not only has the cable network put together several new series with performers of color at the center, but the three shows picked up Tuesday by Comedy Central are all very different.
Ordered to series are the stand-up/musical show “The New Negroes,” the comedy game show “Taskmaster” and the scripted comedy “Corporate.” In development are shows from creators including Awkwafina, Neal Brennan, Arturo Castro, Franchesca Ramsey, Noël Wells and Flint Wainess, among others.
“The network when I got here was pretty traditionally targeted toward young white guys, both in terms of who the audience was and who was creating the shows for the audience,” said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. “We started changing that a few years ago by expanding that into having funny women on the network, with Amy Schumer and Broad City and a lot more since.
