Director Hassan Hussein opens his feature debut with a montage of society going downhill, as a new pandemic leads to a zombie uprising. This life-changing news becomes known to Jesse (Jemma Dallender) when her couple’s camping trip is cut short due to a zombie attack. After her escape leads to a car crash, Jesse tries to survive the horrific circumstances and make her way home.
A key scene occurs early on when Jesse is trapped in an overturned car. There’s little hope found for escape, as her recently deceased friend in the next seat turns into a zombie, while another zombie attacks the windscreen. This seems like the perfect circumstance for a heartbreaking and claustrophobic sequence,...

Tagline: "Come to Daddy." Daddy's Girl is an upcoming horror thriller. To show via Cleopatra Entertainment, this film was created by director Jullian Richards (Reborn) and writer Sean Hogan. Together, they will bring Daddy's Girl to the screen this September and into October. In the story, a stepfather keeps his daughter close at hand. Meanwhile, a local cop is suspicious of their relationship. Daddy's Girl stars: Costas Mandylor (Saw IV), Britt McKillip, Jess Moss and Jemma Dallender. The film's official trailer is available here. Director Richards has talked about this title, over the years. He says of the film's themes: "I introduced a new theme to the story, making both the killer and the cop Iraq war veterans and linking the torture to Abu Ghraib." In today's sensitive climate on culture, Richards had to limit any scenes of torture and violence: "when I directed torture scenes, I panned away or...

"We have to consider that they're all lying to us." Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Disappearance, the feature debut of filmmaker Matt Shapira. This is another one of these seductive sailboat mysteries where something goes wrong and someone dies (or disappears) from a boat and they have to figure out what really happened. Who really killed him? After the author George Boulangé disappears from his sailboat one night, Detective Kenny Park must try to figure out what happened by interviewing his wife, girlfriend, and the captain. Starring Matt Marsden, Hutch Dano, Cortney Palm, Jemma Dallender, Reggie Lee, Brian Thompson, & Guy Wilson. This looks bland and forgettable, and very cheesy (that awful music in the trailer my goodness). This one you can skip. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Shapira's Disappearance, direct from YouTube: When author George Boulangé agrees to the wishes of his wife,...

Ahead of the World premiere screening of Reborn at Arrow Video FrightFest Halloween – which takes place at Cineworld, Leicester Square on November 3rd 2018, Julian Richards discusses the torturerous challenges of Daddy’s Girl, why he wishes every actress was like Barbara Crampton and future plans, including directing the English language remake of Rabies.
After six years away from directing, you have two films, Reborn and Daddy’s Girl poised for distribution. Why these two very different films now?
My previous film Shiver was completed in 2012 and it took longer for me to get back into the directing saddle because of commitments I had to my sales company Jinga Films. The company was growing quickly and needed more of my time and energy. We had grown from handling three films a year to handling ten films a year and our titles were getting stronger. "This mission requires that we stay cool." Gvn Releasing has debuted the official Us trailer for a conspiracy thriller titled just Armed, which will finally be available in theaters + on VOD starting this September. The film is written, directed by, and stars Afro-Mexican actor Mario Van Peebles, who plays a Us Marshall struggling to put his life together after a raid gone wrong. A colleague reappears in his life and explains all of the survivors of his unit are suffering the same symptoms and there may be a larger conspiracy at hand. Also starring Ryan Guzman, Columbus Short, Jemma Dallender, Laz Alonso, and William Fichtner. From the looks of it, this has way more action than is necessary for this story, plus way too much intensity. In his latest direct to DVD effort, Contract to Kill, Steven Seagal stars as Harmon, a CIA/DEA enforcer investigating Arab terrorists captured in Mexico. With his team: FBI agent Zara, and spy-drone pilot Sharp, he flies to Istanbul and uncovers a brutal plot by Islamic extremists – who plan to use Sonora drug-smuggling routes to bring deadly weapons, and leaders, into the U.S. To prevent an attack on America, Harmon must turn these two savage forces against one another before his time, and his luck, run out.

Among Steven Seagal’s dubious achievements in the last decade are his recently granted Russian citizenship and this trailer for Contract To Kill, which is not, as you might expect, a straight-to-dvd release. No, Contract To Kill—not to be confused with Hard To Kill, which also starred Seagal—will have a proper theatrical release but will also be available on iTunes (in case your local cineplex isn’t screening it). The subject of Seagal’s latest film is virtually the same as all the other, triptych-titled works. The sluggish martial arts star plays a CIA/DEA agent named John Harmon, who teams up with Russell Wong and a beautiful distraction (Jemma Dallender) to investigate Muslim terrorists.
The trailer features Seagal puffing out his lines in between halfheartedly chopping guys in the neck, but remember—this is just another day at the office for him and his character. Speaking of...

"I want to pick my own team, I want my own gear, and I need a jet." Lionsgate has debuted a trailer for a new action movie starring Steven Seagal, and if you've seen any of his other recent work, you know what to expect with this (which means - not much). Contract to Kill stars Seagal as a CIA enforcer investigating Arab terrorists captured in Mexico. His team includes actors Russell Wong and Jemma Dallender, and they're chasing after Ghassan Bouz as Abdul Raouf. This looks like a very low-rent Mission Impossible-meets-The Expendables, with all the typical cliches you'd expect. Including the "Islamic terrorists are our worst enemy" trope. This looks pretty awful, I'm surprised it's being released in theaters at all. Have a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Keoni Waxman's Contract to Kill, in high def from Apple: In this international action-thriller, Steven Seagal stars as Harmon,...

We caught up recently with I Spit on Your Grave reboot series director Steven R. Monroe to garner his thoughts on the polarized critical response to the CineTel Films/Anchor Bay Entertainment release of his feature I Spit On Your Grave 2, as well as on the future of the franchise, and more. Monroe, whose extensive directorial credits include the genre features House of 9 (2005), It Waits (2005), and the upcoming Cerina Vincent-vehicle MoniKa, as well as the 2010 Sarah Butler-starring remake of Meir Zarchi’s controversial 1978 rape/revenge feature I Spit On Your Grave, proved refreshing in his honesty in regards to what drew him to directing the sequel, as well as his understanding of the polarized response to it, and his exasperation with a faction of the blogosphere, among other things. Having premiered at London’s FILM4 FrightFest this past August with a subsequent release to Blu-ray, DVD...

We weren't big fans of the 1978 version of I Spit On Your Grave, so the remake was a welcome surprise when it rammed a shotgun up our assets in 2010. It did alright for itself too, and more to the point, a friend of mine claims that it's the best movie ever made. He's not a close friend. A sequel was somewhat inevitable, and Steven R. Monroe returns to helm the second film in the series, but that's where the similarities end. None of the original characters return, which is hardly surprising really, most of them died a horrible death in part one. The star of the show is Katie (Jemma Dallender), a beautiful girl living alone in New York, trying to make a living in the cutthroat world of modelling. When Katie accepts an offer to have free photos taken for her portfolio, the experience turns into an unimaginable nightmare.

Screenwriter Thomas Fenton (Saw IV, I Spit On Your Grave 2) is the latest guest in our Q&A series. The horror writer took time to share his experience working on I Spit On Your Grave 2 and offers advice to aspiring screenwriters:
Can you tell our readers a bit about your previous work that led up to you taking on I Spit On Your Grave 2?
Years ago I wrote a script called Prodigal Son – it was set up at Beacon Pictures with Twisted Films producing. Ultimately, the deal fell through but that put me on the Saw radar. It was my work on that franchise that led to work on IS2.
How did you become involved on the sequel to I Spit On Your Grave? Was this a story that you pitched to the producers or you were hired specifically to work on an idea they had?

★☆☆☆☆ Following its world premiere appearance at this year's Film4 FrightFest, Steven R. Monroe's I Spit on Your Grave 2 (2013) comes to DVD and Blu-ray this week. This blood-spattered sequel to the 2010 remake stars British actress Jemma Dallender as Katie, an ambitious young model whose dream is to make it big in New York City. Sadly, Katie finds herself held back by a dated portfolio. Short on cash and desperate to update her image, she spots a poster offering a free photoshoot. Being a naive, small-town girl, she has no concept of exploitation or 'stranger-danger', and enthusiastically throws herself into her first modelling session.
Things quickly turn sour when photographer Ivan (Joe Absolom) asks Katie to take off her clothes. She promptly declines and leaves the Eastern European photographer and his brothers high and dry - but not for long. Katie wakes to find that Georgy (Yavor Baharov), one of the brothers,...

So it’s that time of year again. October. The trees are changing, the sky is darkening and Halloween is just around the corner. It seems only fitting then, that horror movies are released in large volume and horror fans around the world are wetting their gills with what is on offer.
A few years back we were treated to a remake of Day of the Woman or I Spit on Your Grave and it was a very good remake that while it wasn’t for everyone did a good job at updating the premise and adding some much needed gore to the mix. I was surprised, to be honest, to hear they were putting out a sequel though, but here we are.

To mark the release of I Spit On Your Grave 2 on October 7th we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
Katie (a no-holds-barred performance by Jemma Dallender) has dreams of becoming a model in New York City. Unfortunately, the photos that worked in her small mid-western town aren’t cutting it in the Big Apple. Broke, and in desperate need to update her book, Katie calls a number from a tear-off flyer offering free photos. But this innocent attempt to update her portfolio quickly turns into an unthinkable kidnapping nightmare where she’s ripped away from everyone and everything she knows. Beaten, battered, bruised, and left for dead, she miraculously survives to unleash a brand of brutal female driven vengeance that has come to define the franchise.
Meir Zarchi’s original became one of the most controversial films of all time and its 2010 remake became a critical and box office success.

I'm not new to this sort of garbage. I've seen more than my share of base, low-minded, leering, and frequently repulsive "rape/revenge" thrillers -- from The Last House on the Left (either one) to I Spit On Your Grave (either one) and a dozen others you've probably never even heard of.
I've also seen plenty of dark, disturbing, and devious thrillers, ones that are created by adults, for adults, that deal with the horrific issue of rape, sexual abuse, and the darkest sides of human nature. Films like Straw Dogs, Deliverance, The Hills Have Eyes. Irreversible, Martyrs, Kidnapped, and A Serbian Film. I can tell when rape is being used as a metaphor, as an inciting act, or as an excuse to wallow in misery, suffering, and degradation. Trust me when I say that the virtually worthless I Spit On Your Grave 2 represents the lowest of the low.

You know what I Spit On Your Grave is, and you should know by now if your sensibilities are too delicate to stomach such a thing. These movies have existed, even in their current form, since the early seventies and even before. A woman is brutalized for two thirds of the movie, and in the last act, she takes her revenge. I’ll never understand how somebody could condemn the remake of this film, or any film that borrows the formula, and then go on to talk about how much they love the original. What’s different? I’d argue that the rape scene was ten times as disturbing in the original than it has been in any of the imitators. I also can’t comprehend rating a movie based on political correctness. I’ve seen several people, friends included, rating this a 1/10. Really? I’m not demanding you “like” this movie,...

Remakes can be a crapshoot sometimes, with an emphasis on the crap. It’s really amazing when it works and it gives anyone who had a fondness for the original a satisfying feeling that the subject matter of the film they love is still relevant.
The original “I Spit on Your Grave” was a landmark film. Dissed completely by the high profile ancestors of all those film haters currently on the internet, Siskel and Ebert. Roger Ebert even went so far as calling it “a vile film for sex criminals”. Their acidic opinions succeeded in getting the film pulled out of theaters, but forever secured it a place in infamy.
What made it so special was that it took graphic nudity and violence, the very backbone of what made exploitation cinema marketable, and made them unappealing, uncomfortable, and even a little revolting. If you were a man watching it,...

I Spit On Your Grave 2 had a limited theatrical engagement last week and is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and on-demand. The movie was directed by Steven R. Monroe, who also directed the 2010 remake, and he took part in our latest Q&A session to talk about the movie:
After remaking I Spit On Your Grave in 2010, what made you interested in taking on a sequel with a new story and main character?
Steven R. Monroe: For me it was the fact that I had put a lot into the remake, emotionally, mentally, physically, and creatively and I was just not quite ready to walk away and have number two in someone else’s hands yet.
Was there anything that you couldn’t get in I Spit On Your Grave that you were able to put into the sequel?

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week:
"Iron Man 3"
What's It About? Directed by Shane Black ("Lethal Weapon 2"), the third installment of the "Iron Man" franchise follows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his world is torn apart by the terrorist the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). When Stark's family life is affected by the evil villain, he embarks on a journey to find out who is responsible.
Why We're In: "Iron Man 3," Moviefone's #1 movie of 2013 so far, is different from its two predecessors in that it shows a new, vulnerable side of Tony Stark we'd yet to see. Filled with more serious emotion rarely found in superhero films, this third installment was a refreshing and much needed surprise to the genre.
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week:
"3 Films by Roberto Rossellini Starring Ingrid Bergman: 'Stromboli - Terra Di Dio' | 'Europe '51' | 'Journey to Italy'" (Criterion Collection)

The original I Spit On Your Grave (1978) can be described in a multitude of words, and while acknowledging the absolute abhorrent treatment of a female character coupled with her equally graphic revenge, Meir Zarchi’s relentless film became a cult classic because it empowered women in a way not even horror survival girls had before. It’s easy to comprehend the shock-value appeal, and that’s exactly what Steven R. Monroe tried to hit on with 2010′s remake, and in my opinion, struggled to do. It was no longer fresh, the shock was lost, and it felt a little more sadistic. I Spit On Your Grave 2, Monroe’s controversial sequel to his equally controversial remake, unfortunately feels like beating a dead corpse, um, I mean horse, as creating a franchise that brutalizes women and forces us to watch just doesn’t really get me all that excited. Hooray, more rape,...
